>>reporter: new details from los angeles. at least seven cars were burned to the police to try to find out if they're connected to nearly two dozen recent arson fires in hollywood. these fire spread to several structures on friday. fortunately no one was hurt and thus far police have made no arrests. back here in the bay area to people are recovering after a midmorning drive-by shooting in the east bay. this was the senior and second avenue.--this was the scene near 82nd ave. the victims were in a red suv and someone suddenly fired into the car. to people inside of the car expected to survive and police have made no

cellphone robberies recently. most happening on the 900 block of ninth street and also some on the 800 block of brooklyn. also on 18th street. these are all in the same area. as we fly over on the big board a couple of miles to the west. this is near the mock their business district. and straight over there on locust avenue has also been hit. here is what the thieves are doing there are four of them. they're basically driving around in for people sitting in their parked car using or talking on their phone. the suspect are going around and robbing the people between the ages of 15 in 21 years old. there are black males, and two of the four are armed. the best we are telling people to keep your phones and other valuables in your pocket and purse out of plain view especially when sitting in a parked car. >>reporter: 8 $5,000 reward is being offered in the search for a monkey that was stolen from the sentences goes to. someone

[music] >>reporter: good morning everyone on this final day of 2011 we begin with a developing story out of the east bay. a five year old boy has been shot and killed. it happened just before 9:00 p.m. last night. a young man died later at the hospital. so far, police have no suspects in the shootings. craig is reporting live from oakland

and he is the latest on the investigation good morning greg. >>reporter: the morning this to the scene at 55th and international were the shooting happened. police have secured the scene here. there are a couple of units watching out until investigators returned. i want to show some pictures from last night over children's hospital. in these pictures were taken after the young boy was shot family and friends were hoping that he would pull through about one hour later he did pass away. in addition it international boulevard. the child died from perhaps three bullets. the plans are looking for suspects hoping they find them. >> it is a national tragedy is something that not only for the oakland police department but as a city, we do not want to see this. >>reporter: what was a

little boy doing? >> he was just playing with his dad. he was it there. >>reporter: he was happy? >> yes. >>reporter: international boulevard is the site where various things have happened before. just last august a three year-old was shot in the neck while walking with his parents on international boulevard just 1 mi. from this location. 82 year-old was shot in august at the 5900 block police believe it was a gang-related shooting. there are situations that keep happening here on this stretch of international boulevard in oakland. back alive, you can see the police are securing the scene and waiting for investigators to return. the talk of a truck has been removed. you would never know from looking at what happened here last night, but it did. and the family are hoping that they invited suspect in this case.--they

can find a suspect in this case. >>reporter: police are increasing patrols trying to crack down on people who fired guns into the ear to ring in the new year. they will be working with the chp in the alameda county sheriff's deputies. officials say not only is it illegal to fire a weapon into the air in the city but it is also very dangerous. in san francisco, police also making ready to make sure the celebration stays safe and peaceful. jeff bush talk with officers about their top priority this new year's eve. >>reporter: ron year's eve falls on a saturday this year thousands of people are expected to visit the city. police say there will be a zero tolerance policy when it comes to alcohol. police will be out in full force and looking for anyone who is drunk in public or driving under the influence. >>reporter: we encourage people to come to san francisco and enjoy themselves but expect them to behave responsibly. >>reporter: several dui

>>reporter: pg&e officials say that utilities failed to inspect about 14 mi. of gas lines because of maps that were missing there were reported missing by an employee. inspection of those pipelines revealed 22 weeks including one that was called a gray one the. that was in pittsburgh. pg&e says the league has been repaired. but 21 other leaks are not considered hazardous. pg&e has been

under intense scrutiny. police are continuing their investigation into an attack on a fan and a san jose sharks game. 16 year old maggie says that she got a concussion after being hit by another fan on wednesday night's game at the 880 pavilion. she was wearing and vancouver canucks jersey at the time the sharks released a statement saying that their staff was alerted at a fan needed medical attention that she was checked out by medical staff. the fan's says that the incident was accidental. now coming up the have more news, but first we will take a live look outside the approach to the bay bridge. we are expecting clear conditions around the bay area will be right back.

say they have been 16 new arson fires this morning alone involving at least seven cars. they're trying to find out these fires are connected to two dozen fires in east hollywood. fortunately no one has been hurt but there have been no arrests. and the search continues for a monkey that was stolen from the san francisco zoo. someone apparently broken thursday night and took into account squirrel monkey from the exhibit. here is reggie kumar with the latest. >>reporter: san francisco official said the thieves cut two holes in the exhibit and manage to get their hands on the fast moving scroll mucky. this is one of his cousins, the holes have been temporarily repaired and they see this one is big enough for a small person to fit through. the other was cut below the heater. they say banana sam was one of 18 primates in this exhibit and all of them were donated to the zoo a year-and-a-half ago. they say the banana sam

is a highly sociable animals and he needs to be back with the other primates. they tell me that he is shy and would not come up to a stranger in the exhibit. as a worker removed the last of the four monkeys from the enclosure. there will not be on public display again until look of the fencing has been replaced. the curator says that banana sam is an exotic animal he does not do well when he stressed and he cannot eat human food. >>reporter: he can bite he has predicted even he will inflict injury. if he bites someone, it can get infected. primates, they carry certain diseases that we could share. and there is another one of the many reasons why an exotic animals do not make good pets. >>reporter: are there any surveillance cameras in the zoo? >> there are, but it is hard to have every inch on camera. the have a security team, so again, this really

>>reporter: we begin with a developing story in the east bay 50 boy has been killed. the boy was standing in front of a taco trucks when shots were fired. he later died at the hospital. so far, police have no suspects in the shooting. we are live in oakland at the scene where a taco trucks was parked last night. good morning. >>reporter: good morning, the scene has been secured by the police. they have been shifting to to make sure that no one comes in and tampered with the scene.

but they have very little to go on right now. when the five-year old boy was shot he was rushed to hospital. i want to show some images from last night at children's hospital here in oakland. the family was hoping the poor would survive. unfortunately we heard from authorities that the boy died just an hour later. now was left with the police to find out what was. and why once again there has been a shooting at international boulevard and people that live in this area they lament the loss of one of their youth. >> i think it is children shooting children. it has to stop somewhere. i wish i knew the answer, i wish i knew the answer. >>reporter: very recently back on august 8th, carlson novel who was 3 years old was shot in the neck while walking with his parents just 1 mi. from this location and the second war the ec there, hiram lawrence just 23 months old died on december 9th he was shot in west oakland this has been

>>reporter: good morning everybody welcome back to kron4 news weekend. we begin this half-hour with a developing story in the east bay. a five-year old boy has been shot and killed this happened just before 9:00 last night in the area of 55th avenue and international boulevard. the boy was standing in front of a taco trucks when shot fired. he later died at the hospital. so far, police have no suspects in the shooting. craig sklar has been there all morning at the scene and he is the latest on the investigation as mourners come by to light candles. >>reporter: they are lighting candles they have been doing this for the last hour or two. please have just left the scene. they just finish the investigation for the time being. why want to show some pictures from earlier cousin

kids. that is enough for now. >>reporter: like i said, very emotional, two other children have been shot in oakland won just 1 mi. from here. three-year-old carlos novel and hiram lawrence in december. the shootings continued. it believes to be a lot of bystander things with stray bullets. as we go live, you can see the detective down international boulevard. they're going door-to-door asking questions trying to find out anything they can, canvassing the we just finished up back were the top old truck was, they're looking for things like shell casings and no luck so far as we can tell. but there are going around right now scouring the area hoping that someone has a description of the one, or two suspects that were here last night. the investigation will continue as the day goes on.

>>reporter: thank you craig. in the oakland police are increasing patrols this holiday weekend. they would like to crack down on people who fired guns into the ear to ring in the new year. they will be working with the chp and the alameda county sheriff's office deputies as well. officials are saying only is the illegal to fire a weapon into the air in this city, it is of course very dangerous. the police across the bay area will be out in full force cracking down on anyone it drunk in public or driving under the influence. police say that they will have a large presence tonight and through the morning. there also encouraging people come into the city to take public transportation. here is what one officer had to say. >>reporter: ticket is to be expected that there will be more people coming into san francisco to celebrate because of the number of events throughout the city. knowing that, again the

have some mid-50s out for places like half moon bay we will start to see more of those 50 still in and that is indicated by the blue color on your screen. as we get into the new year it will be cooling down to most the '40's tonight. so here's a look at the number starting out in the south bay for the afternoon high temperatures. about 64 degrees for san jose as well as los gatos. low 60s along the east bay, 66 degrees for mountain view and heading to the north will begin to about 61 degrees and napa, 62 in fairfield 64 for santa rosa and navato and 61 expected for san francisco as more rain stays off shore tonight. you may want to bring a jacket it will be cool tonight. nine years with the seven day forecast looks like we have clear and dry conditions for the holiday weekend. as we head into monday and tuesday we have a very slight chance of sprinkles on wednesday and
