>>ysabel: our top story is day two of the closure on the upper deck of the bay bridge. caltrans crews are hard at work making room for the new eastern span. the good news is they could wrap up work ahead of tuesday's deadline. that could be welcome news for drivers who spent a lot of time yesterday trying to get around. craig skalar has been covering the week and the closer it is joining us live from the bay bridge this morning. the operative words are on schedule in going smoothly. >>craig: yes. schedule. i got some pictures a little closer up, we will show you right now, about 100 caltrans workers have been working overnight into today. yesterday they were concentrating on lane the asphalt. today six distracting.

because the weather is so good and there is no rain, that is the reason why they are at least ahead of schedule. michelis and pages from overnight construction, crews are cutting to the 80 year-old section of the bay bridge. this will relieve stress in order to begin the process of removing a section of the bay bridge to make room for the new bridge. this is animation from caltrans in a bart spokesperson. the demolition started at about 6:00 p.m.. >> it is a surgical removal of this piece. when people here demolition they think we go with big guns, not this time. this time, we are very specifically cutting out a triangular sections of the roadbed is in the way of the new bridge carried one of the biggest challenges is, as we are trying to quit that bridge in the exact same place as the original. >>craig: you can see that workers are hard at work.

>> and thank you for coming to our bay bridge closure of state this sunday morning. things are going very well for the work that we had to do. the upper deck has been closed and a tour of the region we have seen some issues with traffic congestion. for the most part traffic seems to be moving well. we are wrapping up the paving operations. they should be done in the next few hours or so. there was a lot of striping done for the night. we are nearing completion with striping as well. ha ha we still have a lot of

the demolition. how we are about midway through the items that we wanted to try and take advantage of with the closure. we have had a lot of painting. we have done a lot of a landscaping, the electrical work, reflect a replacement, a joint repairs, drainage, cleaning, is like a face lift off to the bay bridge. we have made a lot of progress. we are definitely looking grateful to meet our deadlines. there's still a possibility of an early opening. we will ask you to stay tuned as the up to you on our progress. xi
