the total -- to local metal recyclers. the cemetery says it will cost about $90,000 to replace. >>pam: and another developing story, police say they are searching for a woman who was kidnapped in the san francisco. they say the victim knows the suspect. reggie kumar is live is the studio to show us where all of this happened. >>reggie: take a look at this of google earth map. this is the intersection. the 20 year-old victim was walking with a person with the suspect drove up behind them and pulled the woman into her vehicle. the suspect drove away west on mission street. police are not releasing much information due to the nature of the investigation. they're treating this kidnapping as an isolated incident. it does not appear to be public safety issue. the victim and the suspect have some sort of relationship that they would not confirm if the two were friends or involved in a romantic relationship.

police are not releasing the suspect or the victims' names. anyone with information is urged to call sf pd. >>pam: faced with a projected deficit of more than $83 million, the san francisco school board has okayed seven out preliminary layoff notices to more than 500 employees. dad kermit is here now to talk about how this will impact students and teachers. this is a lot! >>dan: it is. glasses and a less one-on- one time with students. we are talking about 123 ministers out of to hundred 69. 210 of 4100 teachers and counselors and 106 of 1581 paraprofessionals. paraprofessionals include teachers aides and school security guards. as for teachers, they think the district is crying wolf

and all of these notices are unnecessary. >> the school district should be finding ways to live within their budget. we believe that they were able to save enough money from the past two years as they have that money as a result we do not need these layoffs. they certainly should not have been done in a divisive way that the district is proposing. >> this huge deficit is nothing more than a negotiating ploy since teachers' contracts are up. the district admits they are asking for five furlough days and say it is unlikely that they can reduce layoffs unless teachers agree. >>pam: teachers have given back in the past. >> they have. two years to give back 39 million in salary and benefits. >>pam: what about that's a rainy day fund? >> that has helped in the last couple of years. in the last couple of years, they have had a lot of notices go out by the march 50 the deadline ended nearly no one has ended up being laid off during the rainy day fund has helped in the

past few they're hoping to get another 6 million this year. they say that in health but it will not offset anything. these lay off notices have to go out by march 15th and by may 50 they have to finalize layoff notices. we will see what happens in going forward. >>pam: san francisco is not the only school district facing cuts. at 6:00 p.m., in san jose, even more cuts are expected. >>catherine: help might be on the way for california homeowners, especially the half million of them now facing foreclosures. the state attorney general announced a bill of rights for homeowners. they would rewrite rules for lenders and borrowers. >> this is about making sure that california does the right thing in helping these homeowners. >> that plan is not designed to protect deadbeats. here is where she said it will do. if you are a whole lot you

in past years the city of san francisco rainy day fund has helped to alleviate layoffs and has eliminated any need for layoffs. it is unclear whether that will happen this year he and if so, when the decision will be made. >>pam: next, we had to the south bay as the san jose unified school district faces millions in cuts. teachers have already been given pink slips and like the other districts it is something done every year at this time when budgets are in trouble, despite the tough choices ahead, rob fladeboe tells us what the district is optimistic. >>rob: the san jose unified school district is spending more money than it is taking in, right now a budget deficit of 7.4 million. the district says because it has some reserves the will be no teacher layoffs however about 150 administrators will soon be receiving letters of reassignment just in case numbers did not add up down
