communities across the southeast and midwest. this is two days after violent storms and tornadoes. here is new video out of indiana, kentucky and ohio. 30 people have been killed in five states including alabama and georgia. emergency officials are continuing to look for survivors. >> the scene is striking in westwood, ky. roads have been impossible but finally they're able to get some larger equipment in here. first responders have been here for a while. the storm came in friday

afternoon. there is the town hall. that building was built in the '60s, it is really torn up. a reinforced cinderblock concrete. kentucky is the hardest hit. 17 of the 37 fatalities are in this state.

in petaluma and fought off the manager. happens saturday morning. she was allegedly trying to steal several hundred dollars of liquor. with the manager confronted her, she tried to pepper spray him and tried to back into him with her car. the store manager was on injured and police are still looking for the suspect. in santa rosa, thieves stole more than a mile and half of copper wire used to power street lamps. the theft was discovered when the crews were dispatched to check street lights that were not working. that is when they discovered the missing 8,000 ft. of wire. police are still looking for the suspects there. in the south bay, school budget cuts are taking a toll on more affluent districts. parents, teachers and students gathered in santa clara trying to rev up a tax increase campaign. in past years and this had trouble passing. it will offer $84 a year parcel tax.

>>marty: we are back with a developing story, officials are lowering the number of dead in the south and midwest to 36. still, the damage is extensive in that area with at least four tornadoes reported from kentucky on friday. the worst in the region and more than 20 years. some of the winds reached 160 mi. an hour. in a total of 19 people lost their lives in kentucky. in alabama, much of the morning has been focused on assessing the storm damage. one person was reported dead or the weekend. many are trying to make sense of the chaos and begin to make sense. this was a very scary scene in indiana. a tornado outbreak took the

lives of 12 people. a two year-old girl was found alive in the field on friday. her parents and siblings were killed in a storm. as she fights for her life, her extended family is clinging to the only hope they have left. . it is very hard. the baby was a month and a half. she was found in her corset upside down, and jade was 2 years old and of the rubble. >>marty: the two rose strongly on life-support arms in a hospital.

70 of the school's 108 students died. the widespread disaster killed thousand people across japan and it triggered a nuclear crisis. at least 16 people dead and dozens were injured in poland when two trains collided in southwestern poland. rescue crews are combing through the wreckage. many survivors say that the crash was quick and that they're lucky to be alive. investigators are still looking into how the trains crashed.
