and teachers and school staff members may have already received pink slips. the deadline to set them out is today. reggie kumar tells us which school districts were forced to put his stamp on notice. >>reggie: 455 school employees work on notice. the district is facing a $119 million budget deficit over the next two years. in pleasanton the school district is struggling with a $5.5 million budget shortfall.

>> this plan is a compromise, it is not what the governor proposed. let's break it down, the new plan calls for a quarter cent increase in sales tax. that is less than the governor proposed but was not even in the millionaire tax proposal. the plan would also have the wealthiest californians, making more than 1 million, the additional 3% on income tax. that will last for seven years.

the first one to have a problem was this 80 ft. pine tree right here. that one had a limit fall down around 2:00 tuesday after did. a lot of the degree is still left on the ground. this tree right here he came crashing down around 6:00 a.m.. take a look at where the massive landslide in half. the workers out here will be removing both of these trees completely to because of safety concerns. the department of public works has said that they believe this was a combination of the age of the tree and mother nature with the wind and heavy rain that fell overnight loosening the soil. >>erica: here is a live look at conditions over the golden gate. we are not really dealing with rainfall, only drizzle. the wet roadways certainly exist.

take a look at what is on tap for today. we are continuing to see residual showers in the east bay with temperatures in the '50s. as we make our way into the afternoon we will see mostly cloudy skies. we do set the stage for more rainfall as we head into the clock tower. the rain will return any increase in intensity overnight. here is a look at storm tracker 4. residual showers in the east bay and portions of santa rosa. thus it ways.

into the 9:00 hour it looks like we will be dry it, potentially some leftover showers and some of these space-bar. that band of showers will continue to shift southward overnight. meantime temperatures in the mid-50s. the afternoon, a little bit warmer compared to what we have been dealing with this week.

until about 9:00 p.m. and that, this happened. a mudslide came down on the northbound lanes south of the summit. traffic ground to a halt, traffic was backed up all the way to scotts valley. the slide was triggered by heavy rains the chp responded to a handful of standouts. with the sandy mound soil reaching a saturation point, or slide activity is possible in the days ahead as the wet weather continues.

>>reggie: 485 san francisco school districts and police were sent layoff notices including 210 teachers, classmates, counselors and nurses. the district is facing a $119 million budget deficit over the next two years. in contra costa county, bound diablo school district needs to close a $17 million budget deficit. 91 teachers are getting pink slips. in pleasanton, a $5.5 million budget shortfall. school officials were forced to hand out 75 layoff notices to district of police including teachers, counselors and reading specialist. in union city, a 10th with $7 million budget deficit.

lee off notices were sent to 100 teachers, staff members and administrators. >> if a teacher or school staff member did receive a pink slip it does not mean that they will lose their job. they will officially find out in may when permanent ink slips go out. >>mark: the cdc has no information about the foods that we eat. the latest study shows disease outbreaks for imported foods were up in 2009 and 2010. imported fruits and vegetables are on the list. salmonella infection was the most common cause of disease followed by histamine poisoning from fish. that happens when fish is improperly till after being caught. the cdc says it is too early to say the numbers represent a trend but imported foods are more likely to cause of multiple states outbreaks.

freeway has shut down in the southbound direction. a fallen tree is at least partly to blame for this crash. sadly, this is being called a fatal crash. at least one death is suspected. the coroner has already been summoned to the scene. that could be a lengthy investigation and a long freeway closure. fortunately, most of the traffic is in the opposite direction. right now, traffic is being taken off at park boulevard and then back off of the freeway. it is a coin to add some time for your drive if that is a normal commute.

and there are trees just lining the freeways. perhaps the one of the trees just gave way. >>mark: southbound 13, let's go to george for the latest in a traffic center. >>george: most of the traffic will be in the northbound direction. it will be heading from 580 up to join highway 24. this is highly 13 right here. sensors are indicating no backup. that could be because they are updating. the big concern here is if

the southbound backs up to highway 24 past 13, remember, 13 is also the continuation of ash be evident. a lot of traffic coming off of the caldecott heads over to berkeley and does not stay on highway 24. the concern is that southbound traffic could back up on to 24 and affect the rights coming to the caldecott tunnel. it is possible that this could have huge consequences. the latest estimates are 1.5-2 hours. a fatal accident always takes a long time to investigate. getting the corner to the scene takes some time. on the bay bridge westbound, traffic still looks pretty light. a wind advisory is in place, also for the san mateo bridge and your ride on highway 92 westbound.

eastbound, things look good and are still pretty light. no problems or delays southbound dan neutral across the golden gate is still an easy one. the deck is still wet. >>james: here is a look at the golden gate. this morning where looking for a hit or miss residual showers, scattered in nature. not nearly as strong as yesterday. this afternoon, we're looking for a brief break the force in the stage for more rains late tonight.

we understand this is a fatal accident that happened around 4:00 a.m. on the other side of the street, this is park boulevard. as i walk across, you can see the chp has their flares on the road and plenty of bright lights to get the attention of the drivers. as he can see, they are there. they are telling drivers to get off on the park boulevard exit and go around the scene. it is still very busy in this area. by the way, this area is full of trees. it is lined with trees on both sides of the freeway.

much more information coming up later. >>darya: de really think the tree would have come down like that? >>george: it is more likely that the tree fell on the roadway although there were some reports that the tree may have fallen on the vehicle as it was passing south of the but again, those are details that we will have to get from the scene. will tran is would speak with highway patrol when he gets the opportunity. as though with will a moment ago to confirm that the sensors are correct, off there is really only a slight back up at this early hours southbound. there is not a big back up.

along. the chp told me that the second car either slammed into the first car or slammed into the tree. so far we only know of one fatality from the scene. cars are being told to get off of park boulevard. they're going around the scene and may be within a quarter of a mile hike and hopped back on. all of this should be cleared around 6:30 a.m.. we can only speculate why the tree foundation -- why the tree fell down. >>george: lanes have only been closed southbound. all the traffic at its open
