still trying to determine the motive behind the school massacre that left seven dead and three others injured. himself in. it happened at waco university, first reports were at around 10:30 a.m., police say the suspect at one point blind students up against a class or more before opening fire. j.r stone takes us through what happened. >>j.r.: it was a busy evening here in oakland, the police chief announced that

the suspect in this shooting case was a 43 year-old asian man who was once a student at oikos university. the video from this shooting scene on monday morning is in tents with officers running every which way trying to diffuse the situation. 35 people were inside. officers fall at least 13 were outside, seven people killed and 34 injured. as for the suspect in the case, the police chief talk about him on monday evening. he fled the area most likely before the first officers arrived. within an hour and a half, investigators are in possession of the suspect's photo and or in route to his home as well as the separate residence of a relative. the suspect is believed to be an oakland resident and surrendered officers. i once offer my deepest condolences to victims and their families. no words can express the gravity of these offenses.

>> at this point investigators are still trying to determine what the motive was. the mayor says this was no doubt a tragic day in oakland. j.r stone, kron4 news. >>justine: maureen kelly was one of the first reporters on the scene and she spoke with people who were there as some of the first people injured were brought out of the building. >>maureen: the scene at edgewater drive has calmed down considerably. earlier today as 02 people were walking to the bus stop and stumbled onto the scene as police were arriving and one wounded female came running out of the building. she told them what happened inside. >> i saw a girl who had ambulance for her. the asian guy was a nursing student, he shot once did in the chest point-blank theory if flashy guy shot because he just started shooting

everybody. but they did not know how far he would go. they told us to come across the street and get on the ground and then, we heard him shooting out of the window. blood all over him. it is really crazy. i did not see that coming. >>maureen: as you can see in this video, there were tense moments while the search for the shooter was under way. at one point police had to use -- had to move bystanders and the media to keep everyone out of the way. >> we also have the car that the suspected shooter used after opening fire on the campus. here, you can see it being towed away. it was found in the parking lot of a supermarket in alameda.

>> i spoke to this office manager and the manager would not go on camera but says the 38 year-old has lived here since october of 2006 and worked overnight as a janitor. he says some man was studying to the eighth licensed vocational and a serious his wife's that she had just spoken to the hotel guests on sunday, he came in to pick up his mail and seemed fine. police have not said if the man survived the shooting.

>> initially, we were told that he was in at the classroom when he stood up and began shooting of the victims of. officers found several victims throughout the classroom, there were several people hiding in a locked buildings, and locked doors behind desks. they were very frightened and scared. as far as we know, he was the only person involved. he actually commandeered a victim's car and drove its alameda. that is when he surrendered. >> gabe slate spoke with one young woman who was at the school when the shooting started. >> a lot of people were

affected today by the shooting in oakland, not just the people inside were the shooting took place, but loved ones of those who were inside during the shooting. this is charles. his girlfriend was inside attending the school where the shooting took place. dozens from the media waited behind the yellow tape, so did charles, waiting to be reunited with his girlfriend. he explained it was one of the skerries days of his life. >> she is so scared right now. i had to come to driver home because she cannot drive herself. >>gabe: she was one of the lucky ones, she was unharmed. >> i got a text message from her asking me to call police. she sent him a text message while she was hiding with others, they were hiding from the shooter, they locked the room from the inside to keep the killer out. >> at that point the gunman

it appears he came here with a gun and a grudge looking for an administrator. they are not releasing her name. when he could not find that administrator and he went to the building and randomly shot victims. he did not have a grudge against the other people that he shot. this morning, chief howard jordan from the oakland police department spoke with the national media and spoke with us as well. here's what he had to say. >> the suspect was cooperative, very matter-of- fact and a very calm. he did not offer any resistance at all. he surrendered earlier in the during the investigation, he was very cooperative. he remembered details about what happened. he does not appear to be remorseful adolf but did provide us with enough information to start putting

that the chief of police from the oakland police department will provide a media update in about a half an hour. we will cover that for you live. will tran is live on the scene with more. >>will: before we take it is conference from the police chief, we did get a chance to speak with him a little bit earlier. we do have a possible motive. as you can see, this is still an active crime scene. there is piecing together the time line. the university will be shut down indefinitely because police have taken over the scenes. we learned this morning that the alleged gunman came here looking for a particular administrator, perhaps this is the administrator who is the one who kicked him out of school several months ago. when he could not find that administrator, according to

the public information officer, he grabbed a hostage and started going to the school, randomly shooting victims. 10 people were shot altogether. he did not have a particular motive against the people he shot. the administrator he was searching for, the name has not been released. administrators say they spoke with the suspect overnight and he does not seem remorseful. what is kezar this case is trying to find the alleged gun and here is the police chief talking about that. >> that weapon has not been recovered. we will be searching for that later today. we're hoping to find that weapon. our investigators are

determined to find out what happened however he was not cooperative would be keen to the location of the what did. >> an update on the victims. many of the victims died at the scene. 10 people were killed and three people were at a hospital or right. what those people have been treated and released. the name of a hospital where the victims are have not been released. with plan to carry the news conference live from the police chief at 6:00 a.m.. >>darya: here is more what we know about the alleged shooter.

he came here with the intent of locating and administrator, we are not in a position to provide you with that person's name. she was not here. he then went through the entire building systematically and randomly shooting victims. as a result of his actions, he shot and killed seven people, three people were wounded. we do know they he was upset at administrators. we know that he was upset with several students because of the way he was treated when he was enrolled here two months ago. we do not have any further details about his exact motivation of that is the information that we received from witnesses in the the suspect himself. we are currently still conducting several follow up interviews. we will be putting the pieces together to present a case to the district

attorney for her to decide what to charge him with. he is currently being held at the santa rita jail and the sheriff's department does half fame in custody pending his initial appearance in court later on this week. the victims, there were six women and one male. the victims are from various countries including correa, nigeria, nepal and the philippines. we do not have any further information regarding their exact residents. their age range is from 21- 40 years old. the reno kids involved in this incident. all of the victims with the exception of the secretary who was a the first victim were all students at this university. with that, i will take questions for a few minutes.

perversion or anger towards women. there were a total of 35 people here yesterday, about 23 were accounted for. the others left before arriving. we do not have the makeup of a female or male. >> why did he stop cheating? did he simply run out of bullets? >> we believe that he could have heard people calling 911. the first phone call that we got yesterday morning was at 10:33 a.m. fan within three minutes the first officers started to arrive stiff it was only a matter of time before officers would start arriving at the sec would do not believe the suspect wanted a confrontation with police. he left immediately after he was finished shooting.

classrooms. >>will: did he live people up and shot them? >> he asked people to line up, not everyone was cooperative and that is when he began shooting. >>darya: he just for the oakland police chief wrapping up a press conference. >>darya: he did want to make clear that the handgun was semiautomatic and that they have not recovered it. that is something they're still investigating and also saying that the alleged shooter has been cooperative in terms of talking to investigators. fast they're finding out more about the motive. all we know at this point is that he was upset after being kicked out of the school and returned looking for an administrator. when he did not find her, he opened fire killing 72. we're back with more team covered in a couple of minutes.
