still trying to determine the motive behind the school massacre that left seven dead and three others injured. himself in. it happened at waco university, first reports were at around 10:30 a.m., police say the suspect at one point blind students up against a class or more before opening fire. j.r stone takes us through what happened. >>j.r.: it was a busy evening here in oakland, the police chief announced that

the suspect in this shooting case was a 43 year-old asian man who was once a student at oikos university. the video from this shooting scene on monday morning is in tents with officers running every which way trying to diffuse the situation. 35 people were inside. officers fall at least 13 were outside, seven people killed and 34 injured. as for the suspect in the case, the police chief talk about him on monday evening. he fled the area most likely before the first officers arrived. within an hour and a half, investigators are in possession of the suspect's photo and or in route to his home as well as the separate residence of a relative. the suspect is believed to be an oakland resident and surrendered officers. i once offer my deepest condolences to victims and their families. no words can express the gravity of these offenses.

>> at this point investigators are still trying to determine what the motive was. the mayor says this was no doubt a tragic day in oakland. j.r stone, kron4 news. >>justine: maureen kelly was one of the first reporters on the scene and she spoke with people who were there as some of the first people injured were brought out of the building. >>maureen: the scene at edgewater drive has calmed down considerably. earlier today as 02 people were walking to the bus stop and stumbled onto the scene as police were arriving and one wounded female came running out of the building. she told them what happened inside. >> i saw a girl who had ambulance for her. the asian guy was a nursing student, he shot once did in the chest point-blank theory if flashy guy shot because he just started shooting

everybody. but they did not know how far he would go. they told us to come across the street and get on the ground and then, we heard him shooting out of the window. blood all over him. it is really crazy. i did not see that coming. >>maureen: as you can see in this video, there were tense moments while the search for the shooter was under way. at one point police had to use -- had to move bystanders and the media to keep everyone out of the way. >> we also have the car that the suspected shooter used after opening fire on the campus. here, you can see it being towed away. it was found in the parking lot of a supermarket in alameda.

>> i spoke to this office manager and the manager would not go on camera but says the 38 year-old has lived here since october of 2006 and worked overnight as a janitor. he says some man was studying to the eighth licensed vocational and a serious his wife's that she had just spoken to the hotel guests on sunday, he came in to pick up his mail and seemed fine. police have not said if the man survived the shooting.

>>justine: these are some of the horrible images from yesterday's shooting as police are dragging a lifeless body of the school in oakland. the video is graphic. here, we can see a purse with blood on their shirt. a bystander also running for his wife, seven keyboards at this moment, three more are still injured. now, the oakland police chief explained to us what happened.

>> initially, we were told that he was in at the classroom when he stood up and began shooting of the victims of. officers found several victims throughout the classroom, there were several people hiding in a locked buildings, and locked doors behind desks. they were very frightened and scared. as far as we know, he was the only person involved. he actually commandeered a victim's car and drove its alameda. that is when he surrendered. >> gabe slate spoke with one young woman who was at the school when the shooting started. >> a lot of people were

affected today by the shooting in oakland, not just the people inside were the shooting took place, but loved ones of those who were inside during the shooting. this is charles. his girlfriend was inside attending the school where the shooting took place. dozens from the media waited behind the yellow tape, so did charles, waiting to be reunited with his girlfriend. he explained it was one of the skerries days of his life. >> she is so scared right now. i had to come to driver home because she cannot drive herself. >>gabe: she was one of the lucky ones, she was unharmed. >> i got a text message from her asking me to call police. she sent him a text message while she was hiding with others, they were hiding from the shooter, they locked the room from the inside to keep the killer out. >> at that point the gunman

rain to change dry conditions in southern california. snow across this year is holding at only 55 percent of normal. in the southern part of the state is only at 39%. this was the fourth of five surveys that will be conducted for the season. erica has more on the leather and what is in store for the rest of the week. >>erica: from the subject of snow, we could get one-2 in. of fresh new powder in the sierra but right now, we are dry. here is a look at clear conditions with a little bit of cloud cover overhead. that is actually keeping our temperatures warm. into the the clock hour, temperatures will be similar to what they are, expects upper '40's and '50's. 50 right now for oakland and hayward. a degree cooler into daily city and cooler in the north bay. right now, we do have windy conditions there.

as we head into the afternoon, that is when we pick up the slight potential for wet weather, particularly in the north bay. it looks like the rain changes will stick north of the golden gate. into the 3:00 hour it will be right around the santa rosa area. the system will continue to pass through into the evening hours. right around 7:00 p.m. we will pick up some rain into san francisco and hayward. it looks to be pretty fast- moving system, so all of cloud cover will push out of our way into the wet weather later this evening. it pretty fast moving system. as we head into the rest of the week, nothing but sunshine and temperatures mild if not hot. into the weekend we could reach upper 60s and low 70's by monday. overall, dry conditions around the bay area and it will finally feel like spring. and the traffic center here

is a quick bridge check. the approach to the bay bridge it looks good. here on the stand out of oakland forced san francisco we are not tracking and problem off for major delays. we did have a with advisory but that has just been canceled. the drive time is just 14 minutes from end to end. no problems on the stand however coming out of marin county we do have an injury accident, and ambulances headed to the scene scanned blocking the number one and number five lanes. we could see speeds start to drop and we could see more lane closures as well. >>justine: it has now been more than two weeks since sierra lamar was seeing. she vanished while on her way to school.

that right now i'm standing in the fourth leg of safeway at the south or resource center in alameda, this is a few miles away from the shooting. it is here we believe the suspect was arrested. investigators were here on seen blocking of a large section of the parking lot during their investigation. we believe the suspect figure around 11:30 a.m. and went into the store telling people he was the shooter. one witness in the store at the time came out of the store and saw the suspect being arrested. >> there were two alameda police cars right in front.

the madness started on monday morning to is up to 10:30 a.m.. >> the first officer arrived at 10:30 a.m. and found a victim of mistaken extremely chaotic scene. initially wilber told that he was in the classroom when he stood up and began shooting at the victims. officers found several victims throughout the classroom, for all the building, there were several people hiding in a locked buildings behind the desk. some were injured and had to be rescued. we had to force our way into a number of rooms. as far as we know he was the only person involved in the incident and actually commandeered a victim's car and drove its alameda.

>>erica: temperatures are warming up just-in-time for the weekend. a little bit of light fog and a cloud cover. that is keeping temperatures a little bit warmer this morning with upper 40's and low '50's outside the door. as i take a look at the davis letter for you, that will be the case throughout the rest of the morning. some locations, particularly in the south bay may not run into any rainfall at all. as we head into the evening the storm will pass through and we will see dry conditions at midnight.

there was an accident on 101 in san pedro but it looks like that has been closed off of the freeway. >> suspended share of ross mirkirimi is now allowed to move back home but only for a short amount of time. a judge modified the state with order while his wife and son are and venezuela. mirkirimi had been barred from entering the family home since arrested and charged in january for a domestic violence incident involving his wife. the ruling says he must leave before his family returns on april 27th.

it appears he came here with a gun and a grudge looking for an administrator. they are not releasing her name. when he could not find that administrator and he went to the building and randomly shot victims. he did not have a grudge against the other people that he shot. this morning, chief howard jordan from the oakland police department spoke with the national media and spoke with us as well. here's what he had to say. >> the suspect was cooperative, very matter-of- fact and a very calm. he did not offer any resistance at all. he surrendered earlier in the during the investigation, he was very cooperative. he remembered details about what happened. he does not appear to be remorseful adolf but did provide us with enough information to start putting

>> the first oakland police patrol officer arrived at 10:36 a.m. and located a victim suffering from life- threatening gunshot wounds amidst an extremely chaotic scene. initially we were told he was in the classroom when he stood up and began shooting of the victims. officers found several victims drown out the building. there were several people hiding in a lot of the buildings behind a desk, as you can imagine, very frightening, very scared. some of them were injured and had to be rescued. it was a very bloody scene.

that the chief of police from the oakland police department will provide a media update in about a half an hour. we will cover that for you live. will tran is live on the scene with more. >>will: before we take it is conference from the police chief, we did get a chance to speak with him a little bit earlier. we do have a possible motive. as you can see, this is still an active crime scene. there is piecing together the time line. the university will be shut down indefinitely because police have taken over the scenes. we learned this morning that the alleged gunman came here looking for a particular administrator, perhaps this is the administrator who is the one who kicked him out of school several months ago. when he could not find that administrator, according to
