three injured. it happened around 10:30 a.m.. here was the scene with dozens of officers arriving after the shooting. police say the suspect blind students up before opening fire. he then left, reloaded his weapon and returned. will tran is live at the school with the latest developments. >>will: we just carried a live news conference and we now know that six of the people killed were women. one man. 10 people altogether. nine of them were students at this university. piquancy investigators still in front. this is an active crime scene as they tried to gather as much evidence as they can, trying to piece together a timeline. according to the chief of police, the reason this alleged gunman stopped firing was simply because he could possibly hear that

people were calling 911 and in did not want a confrontation with police. that is why he fled the scene carried we do not know what he ultimately ended up in our meeting at the safeway. the police chief says they have not recovered the gun so far. also, they did spend the night talking to the alleged gunman. >> the gunman was very cooperative, very matter-of- fact in a very calm. he did not offer any resistance at the time of the shooting. he surrendered and during the investigation, he was a very cooperative. he remembered it details about what happened. he does not appear to be remorseful but did provide us with enough information to start putting the pieces of this puzzle together.

we do not know if that administrator kick him out of school. fifth when he could not find the administrator he grabbed a secretary and started walking through the school. he told some of the victims to get against the wall. that is what he started shooting. the administrator he was looking for was not here at the time. we do not know why they are withholding her name, we're also learning more about why he took off to alameda. there are possible reports said he believes he could blend in better. perhaps he knew that it would not take long for officers to arrive, they have not recovered the handgun. we believe it is a 45 caliber handgun but they will not say definitively.

>>darya: here is what we know, some other information we have, the shooter is 43 years old. he was a nursing student at the school and he had a problem with an administrator. he is a grand national. his brother was a soldier in the u.s. army corps recently died in a car accident in virginia. also, we know that he had financial problems, he had multiple liens against him. as we can see the team coverage, let's go to one of our solo recorders food is at highland hospital this morning in oakland. fact >>jackie: there were 10 people saw yesterday, five people died at the scene and five more were transported here to highland hospital trauma center.

if two of those victims died here at the hospital, a third was treated and released from hospital yesterday. that means there are still two victims here at highland hospital. we do not have enough data on their condition or when they are expected to be released. right now the hospital is very tight lipped about the situation. this is one of the top trauma centers. they are expecting multiple casualties. as soon as we get new information, as soon as they can pass on anything new about the victims we will pass that along. >>mark: as we continue to follow this story, alejandra cerball has more on the victims who were injured but survived. >>alejandra: this a nursing student received stitches on monday after being shot in the arm. her family left highland hospital in oakland and are

that he confessed. >> we do not know if he flat out confessed but he seems to be very calm and talking to them about the chain of events. we do not know if he flat out said yes, i was the one behind the massacre. according to the police chief the only reason he stopped was because he could possibly hear people on their cell phones calling in 911 in he did not want a confrontation with police. many officers are only couple of blocks away, there is a dispatch center right down the road. he was ultimately arrested at the safeway in alameda. when he was arrested he was unarmed. he gave up peacefully. >>darya: stay tuned for our
