him. he was behind a wall, and you could only partially see him but he was in a red jumpsuit and didn't say much. he was asked if one goh was his name, and he said yes, and avenues all -- that was all he said because he was conferring with his attorney about the murder charges and attempted murder charges. the district attorney asked if they would seek the death penalty. >> the amount of time anyone who has been around a while cannot recall a crime scene such as this where someone went in and essentially executed seven people and tried to execute three more. the decision regarding whether or not to seek the death penalty in this case will be made following the proceeds which is followed by my office and every case in which there are special circumstances alleged. >> basically, it means that at this point, they don't know if they will charge him or go

after the death penalty. they will have a preliminary hearing, and after the preliminary hearing, they will have a committee, and that committee will decide if they will go for the death penalty or not. i have been on a slew of arraignment cases, and most last a minute, and this went five minutes, charge after charge and name after name, and at one point i had goose bumps and many other people in the courtroom probably felt the same way. jr stone, kron 4 news. >> and we are learning more about the woman who police say goh was targeting, an administrator not on the campus, and there was other information revealed. >> reporter: we are learning about the intended target, the nursing director at the school. we can go to video. she attended a vigil last night. this is her in the glasses on the right-hand corner of your screen. she said that goh asked for a

tuition refund, and she could not refund all his money, and that's why he targeted his anger at her. >> what did we learn about the gun? >> reporter: it was a .45 caliber pistol with four magazinings, a lot of ammunition with each carrying 10 bullets. they are not telling us how many shots were fired, but he had at least 40 or 50 bullets with him, and they are saying almost all of those were gone or were shot. and we can also tell you coming up at 6:00, we're learning new information about what took place when goh pled the scene and went to the safeway in alameda. >> and continue to look for the gun. thank you, kate. the investigation continues, and today, sheriff's lab teg nigzs were at oikos again collecting evidence. they have been there since

monday when the shooting happened. investigators say they want to be at thorough as possible in covering every detail, and crews were searching the oakland estuary where it's believed that goh threw the gun. charles clifford is live with an update. charles? >> reporter: yeah. i'm off 7200 doolittle drive looking at a live picture of the estuary where they are trying to find that murder weapon from monday's shooting. they have finished their investigation for the day, and there are no plans at the moment to return. let's take a look at the google earth map to show you the area. at the top there is oakland and oikos university is to the right and to the far left is where the suspect was arrested on monday morning, the south shore shopping center in al media. and the blue line, if you were

to drive from oikos university to the south shore shopping center and take the most direct route, that's probably where you would go, and they have been searching the estuary in the middle of the screen just off the route, and if we look closer the area is happening just east of doolittle drive. and offshore is the red area where they have been searching. let's take a look at the video from the last day and a half. the oakland police department has had their police boat out here and a boat from the san francisco police department and the coast guard also helping out yesterday, and then yesterday evening around 8:00 in the evening, dive teams from the alameda county sheriff's department were in the water until 2: 2:00 a.m. searching, and them on wednesday, a smaller team was searching along the shoreline but the tide has gone out, and

seven people killed, and family and friends say that a lot of goh's classmates were afraid of him. we talked with a family friend of the 40-year-old nigerian immigrant and mother of three. >> the whole class was in fear of him, and they were afraid he was going to do something. >> reporter: doris chibuko told her husband, here in this photo, that one goh was verbally abusive, and she and her classmates felt he was upstable. >> she was dreading that guy. >> reporter: her friends said that a surviving victim of the massacre came by the home on tuesday and told them out of all the other students, goh seemed to like doris and even bought her lunch. doris's friends say that the nigerian immigrant was a loving

mother to her children leaving behind three young daughters ages 3, 5, and 8 and a teenaged stepdaughter. >> when this happened, it was so upsetting that it leaves speech little, you know, the reason why. you know uh -- you know, why? i love my family, and this? you know? , it's -- i still don't get it. >> reporter: maureen kelly, kron 4 news. >> 53-year-old judith seymour was killed and her fiancee talked about her and how he and her children are coping with the tragedy. >> you know, it's difficult every day, can camilla, brian,

and myself, we wake up and think judy will come through the door. it's very hard, but we're getting through it with the love and support of family and friends, and i want to give my condolences to all the victims and their families expected friends, and just do an act of kindness, you know. go out of your way to show life and support even for a stranger and make somebody's day a better day, a happier day, and maybe by people doing that, we can reduce the violence and not have this happen again. >> he said that seymour had wanted to become a nurse like her parents because she wanted to help people, and he thanked people who were offering condolences and ask that people perform, in his words, an act of kindness on behalf of seymour. officials from oikos university are speaking out. kron 4 talked with the vice president. he did not know the suspect

you can see the camera bouncing around here, and let's take a look at the current conditions. temperatures are quite cool this afternoon, low 50s close to the coastline, just 52 in half moon bay and 57 in oakland. warmer in the inland valley, 58 in concord, and dismor pleasanton and warmer in the south bay, 59 in san jose. but we mention the winds. it's quite breezy, not just close to the coastline but other spots as well like oakland, 23-mile per hour winds there, and 21-mile per hour winds in hayward, and 24-mile per hour winds in fairfield, and 25 miles per hour sustained winds in half moon bay, and the gusts are stronger than that. the winds are expected to die down tonight, and with the calmer winds, very chilly conditions. frost advisories in effect for portions of the north bay, and tomorrow, sunny like this, but cool and breezy and temperatures in the 50s, and we'll talk more about that plus a weekend warm up in a bit.

get u-verse tv for $25 a month with free hd for six months. a whole neighborhood is headed to san francisco, and the giants are leading the way and announced a $1.6 billion plan to build this, a series of development projects in the mission bay area called mission rock, and it will be south of at&t park. the team plans to convert the parking lot and this pier, pier 48, this area right here into restaurants, shops, homes, and offices, and we have artist renderings here. here are some other ones.

the bay bridge here, and this used to be a parking lot. the port of san francisco owns the land right now, but the city and the giants' owners, they seem eager to workout a deal where the giants would take over, 9000 construction jobs and 7000 permanent on site jobs once the construction is complete. eventually, people will live here and work here and spend money here but they will not park where they used to park, and the giants' games, they generate a lot of traffic, and teresa estacio has information on the mission rock parking plan. >> reporter: i am here at the south end of parking lot a where the giants' organization plans to build a brand new parking structure that will be part of the mission rock development. it will be multi-story and it will contain 2600 spots. that's the same number currently right here in the

flat asphalt rock. as far as of the co, they haven't figured that out yet. right now, on game day, it's $30 to park here in lot a. other lots nearby such as this across the street from the ballpark, an attendant tells me that it starts at $30 and it can go up. these lots, two blocks away on townsend, $40. a spokesperson went giants' organization that does one of the main goals in developing and creating mission walk was to preserve parking for fans. in san francisco, terisa estacio, kron 4 news. it has been mostly sunny this afternoon but cool and breezy and a look at the current satellite picture with a few clouds offshore and a few over the hills, but we'll keep the clear skies in the forecast throughout overnight hours, and you can see nothing offshore but a few spotty clouds, and it has been breezing out there as i mentioned with the wind gusts

pretty strong close to the coastline. 28-mile per hour gusts in hayward, and 29-mile per hour gusts in fairfield. the winds are expected to die down as we head into the overnight hours and will lead to cold conditions and patchy frost through portions of the bay area. into the afternoon, it will pick back up, the winds, that is, and cool temperatures expected once again, only in the 50s through most of the bay area tomorrow and a chilly evening on tap once again for tomorrow night. take a look at the frost advisory through most of the north bay for tomorrow, 3:00 in the morning to 8:00 in the morning, and it's for the valleys and for the mountains, and i think this could extend also into portions of the delta, places like delta and fairfield. quite chilly in half moon bay,

36 in oakland and high temperatures, really not going to be that warm tomorrow, very similar to today's conditions with low 50s close to the coastline and 56 in oakland, and low 60s in sunnyvale and san jose, and 58 in concord, and 59 in antioch, and 58 in livermore. a look at the extended forecast, a cool and breezy day before conditions improve into the weekend, and temperatures warming back into the 60s on friday and upper 60s on saturday, and there is a slight chance of catching rain on sunday night. we will keep you posted but most of your easter sunday will stay dry. it's described as something out of the wizard of oz, violent storms thatter to across north texas on tuesday and sent people scrambling for safety. one day later, the clean up has started, and despite the destruction, there is a lot of relief. >> i was right there, on the wall right there, on the wall

in news around the bay, a trial date has been set for a suspected serial killer, joseph naso, accused of murdering four women in northern california between 1977 and 1994. he has been representing himself at trial but did recently hire a lawyer to help advise him. the trial has been scheduled for november. prosecutors say that they do plan to seek the death penalty

if naso is convicted. new developments in the investigation of a huge federal loan given to solyndra. the half billion dollar loan was approved after a last- minute rushed financial review as part of the obama stimulus plan. it was widely criticized by republican lawmakers. the treasury department argues that the shortened time frame was appropriate. stay with us. more news after the break.

and now at 5:30, yahoo announced major layoffs today, and it's the sixth round in the last four years for the struggling silicone valley company. gabe slate tells us how it could affect users. >> reporter: if you are worried, don't be. it won't affect users. yahoo will not do anything to scare off the 700 million users with one of the largest audiences on the web, and at the present times to keep it that way. the product that is draw in the eyeballs are the most coveted and important a sets. let's breakdown the shocking numbers. yahoo is laying off 14,000 people, and before that, they

cut 2000, and cut roughly 14% of the company. due to layoffs, they expect to save $375 million a year. according to scott thompson, the ceo of yahoo, the layoffs are an important next step to a bold new yahoo, better equipped to innovate. several analyst that i s -- analyst that is i spoke with said that scott is not doing a good job to resurrect yahoo, and there may not be anything that can be done. >> the layoffs are not deep enough, and he hasn't articulated a strategy, and it falls in a strategic vacuum. all told, it looks like somebody that has never done this or hasn't learned how to do this right, and given he's a fish out of water, i don't think this bodes well for yahoo. the market they're in is digital media. the other company like them,

aols also on the ropes, and aol did a better job of bringing in the talent with the huffington post, and yet, that didn't seem to fix the problem begging the question, is there a market for either firm in. >> reporter: gabe slate, kron 4 news. more than a thousand tips in the investigation of the disappearance of sierra lamar, who has been gone for 3 weeks. no person of interest. people in san jose are back home tonight after a car crash and a gas leak forced evacuations. a car hit a house after 10:00 last night, and it rammed into the gas meter causing a leak. the home and other homes evacuated as a precaution.

but pg&e tomorrowed tomorrow -- determined that the area was safe. more than two dozen students at santa monica college were pepper sprayed by police last night. police say that the protest got out of control, and that's when they took action. >> reporter: the problem with the board of trustees' meeting took place here, and it's a very small conferenc< it couldn't accommodate the huge crowd that showed up to protest the proposal to hike prices for core courses, four times the current price. let's check out the youtube video that shows the crowd chanting "let us in" and "shame on you." you can see them pressing up on the officers blocking the door and trying to keep them out of the conference room, and this goes on for several minutes, and then police took action. watch. students fleeing down the halls, and many of them clutching faces, and you can see tears streaming down and hear them streaming.

in a statement, one college police officer said he unleashed the pepper spray to "preserve public and personal safety." not only were the students in front affected but a number of bystandersed chicago other police personnel, college staff, and even children. we'll take a look at a photo showing two women attending to the little girl in the line of fire. she was pepper sprayed, and they were portion water on her face to stop the burning. today, the college president defended the use of pepper spray saying that the police showed great restraint. there were no arrests. the incident is under investigation. president obama signed a new law banning government workers from participating in insider trading. this was the scene as the president signed the bill in washington, d.c. the new law bars members of congress, the president, and thousands of federal workers from profiting from non-public information learned on the job. and it lets the public see more

have fled since the coup on sunday. a british warship sets sail bound for the falkland islands, the latest move in the standoff with argentina over the islands. both countries marked the 30th anniversary of the falkland's war. argentina sees the warship setting sail as an intimidating move. mitt romney really does have a big lead in the race for the republican nomination. but nonetheless, santorum said he is staying in the race saying it's the same battle he's fought since the beginning of the race in iowa. >> everyone has been asking from the days i was driving around in iowa to get out of the race. >> reporter: john mccain is

north bay interior, frost advisory until 8:00 tomorrow morning. the north bay, need more time to defrost the windshields with ice on the windshields for tomorrow morning. and let's take a look at what we're expecting for the rest of the bay area, cold temperatures and patchy frost, and in the afternoon, the winds will pick back up and cool once again and temperatures in the upper 50s, and then into the evening, cool as well, and warmer than what we will see out there tonight but still on the cooler side. as for temperatures tomorrow morning, real cold in spots. 30 in napa, and 31 in santa rose a and freezing in fairfield and cold in pleasantton and livermore, 34 in those locations, and 39 in hayward and 39 in sunnyvale and san jose. for the afternoon, temperatures not rebounding all that much. it will be cool close to the coastline. low 50s in daly city and half moon bay, and 58 in concord,

door. up at 6:00, developments in the deadly school massacre. one goh, the suspected gunman, was in court today. he is now officially charged with killing seven people, injuring three others. investigators have been back at the oakland estuary looking for the gun he used. divers were back on the water today. and the identity of the woman he was possibly targeting, a school administrator who had refused to give him a tuition refund. and we are continuing to learn more about the victims who were killed in the horrible tragedy. we have more on j. r. stone with more on the charges goh faces. >> reporter: i was in that courtroom and i could see one goh. he have wearing the origin jump suit. as he stood, the judge read all

the charges against him, all ten of them, three murder charges and three attempted murder charges. while he did not say much, the d.a. said a whole lot after the hearing. >> today, my office filed complaints against one goh. we have alleged seven counts of murder. we have aledged three counts of attempted murder with premeditation clauses. in the amount of time that anyone has been around for a while, nobody can recall a crime scene like this where someone went in and executed seven people and tried to execute three more. the information that we have received from some of the individuals who knew him at the school was that he was a loner and, you know, what some might call a loser, but that he didn't exhibit any behaviors that we are aware of that would have aletted anyone that he could commit such a murderous

rampage. this particular individual didn't display any particular behavior that that anybody saw that would have predicted his murderous ram panel. >> reporter: nancy o'malley says that her office will decide whether or not to seek the death pent after a preliminary hearing. that will be weeks, if not months. one goh will be back in court in three weeks to enter a plea. live in oakland, j. r. stone. we are learning more about what happened in the minutes right after the shooting. that's when one goh fled the scene. he carjack add car and went to a store. he made a phone call? >> reporter: he made a phone call at the supermarket there was a quick thinking supervise are market clerk who overheard that phone call and that's how police ended up at that safeway. here is the chief talking about what happened. >> got there. asked to use the phone. one of the clerks there allowed

him to use the phone. they heard the conversation, we presume he was calling a family member. we have not confirmed that yet. after he was done with the phone call, that clerk notified the security company that was patrolling that shopping center. >> we are learning new details about that gun that they are looking for. >> they have not been telling us about the weapon yet. we are now learning it was a .45 caliber pistol, he had four fully loaded magazines which he brought into that school which left him with 40 to 50 shots. he used almost all of those bullets. >> tell us about the administrator, the person who was not there, but he was looking for her. >> we learned her identity. her name is ellen cervellon. she attended the vigil. you can see her there with the hood up.

goh asked her for a full refund and she was not able to give it to him and that's why she became her target. she was not there at the school and she is as shocked as we all are. investigators have been looking for are the gun in the estuary. charles, what's happening? >> reporter: right now, i'm standing right off 7200 doolittle drive. and you are looking at the oakland estuary. this is where investigators had hoped to find the gun that was used in monday's deadly shooting. so far, they have been unable to locate that weapon. investigators have suspend their effort to find a .45 semiautomatic hand gun that investigators believe was used in the oikos university shooting. the shortest driving route between those two locations is represented by the blue line. and just off that route, right

in the middle of this map is where investigators have been searching in the estuary. that is where they believe the suspect had pulled over and thrown the weapon into the water. on tuesday, the oakland police department used their boat to search just offshore. they were assisted by the san francisco police department and the coast guard. divers from the alameda county sheriff department dive team scoured the area until about 2:00 a.m. wednesday morning. this afternoon, a smaller dive team continued the search but they wrapped up their effort around 4:00. >> back live now at the moment there are no investigators left here on scene and we understand they do not plan to return until they have credible evidence that, indeed, this is where the weapon is. for now, in oakland, charles clifford, kron news. reporters caught up with the brother of the man accused

>> the judith seymour's fiance talked to kron. he says that he is counting on the law to deal with the suspect and that the people will focus on the victims and their family. >> it's a very sad day, tragic day. and that i want people to remember that two or three, four months down the line, that the focus when the trial starts, the focus will be on the trial and the media is going to be, you know -- that's going to be the main story. and i just don't want the victims and their families to be forgotten. i want them to be remembered and to -- you know, have the public continue to give their support and love and not just focus on the trial and the shooter. i think, already, there is too much focus on the shooter and the motives and all of that.

getting a much needed makeover. highway 12 at the napa solano will be widen. from two lanes to four. the project got started today. highway 12 gets an immediate airier as part of this project as part of a stretch that extends from highway 29 you will the way to independent state 20. talk to anybody who drives this thing frequently, they will tell you this is a dangerous portion of the roadway. this is much needed. the $115 million project is fund by the napa solano county. two lanes will remain open during the construction. the pain at the pump continues as we head towards the easter holiday. national average up today again, hitting 3.93. prices staying pretty steady. in san francisco, the average is 4.38 a gallon and san jose, it's 4.29. oakland, 4.28.

we are not paying the highest prices in the country. hawaii's average is standing at 4.60 a gallon and you are looking at the cheapest gas, 3.58 in wyoming. and new information is coming to light this afternoon. whitney houston's final autopsy report shows that she drowned face down in a tub of hot water about a foot deep. investigators have also confirmed they found a white powdery substance in her hotel room. the death was ruled an accidental -- accident drowning. we'll have more on the new information on whitney houston's death. it's been a sunny day out there but quite windy and chilly. mostly clear skies over the bay area and it's going to stay that way as we head into the

they were powerful and they were destructive but, somehow, somehow, not deadly tornadoes tearing through the dallas area yesterday. now residents are picking up the pieces. look at the size of this tornado charging along its roadway right here. one of three confirmed tornadoes in north texas. thousands of homes damaged or destroyed. this woman can't believe what she is looking at. this thing used to be her garage door. now, these are the areas that were really hit the hardest, arlington, rock wall and lancaster. they are all around dallas. dallas could have gotten pummeled. we are talking about ef 2, ef 3 tornadoes. 111 to 150 miles per hour wind. take a look and listen to this

focus will be switching from finals to job. while the job market is still tough. there is some encouraging news for the class of 2012. this year's college graduates can expect more job postings and higher salaries but the competition is fierce. new data from the national association of colleges and employers shows that the average starting salary for the class of 2012 is $42,569 a year. that's up 4 1/2% from last year. but there is also higher demand, keeping those salaries afloat. for every entry level job opening, employers surveyed received 33 applications, up from just 21 last year. what position is in the best position to land a job? engineering is the highest one attracting the biggest demand from employees. business and accounting majors are also in high demand and
