including -- charles. >> reporter: right now i am standing at park boulevard and -- in just a few areas this area will become a very important intersection for people trying to get off and on the golden gait bridge because doyle drive, highway 101 southern approach to the bridge will be shut down over the weekend. now, that closure begins at 8:00 tonight and continues until 5:00am monday morning. here is an overview of san francisco looking north across the city. right now i am standing here at gary boulevard and park press idio. at 8:00cal trans will shut down doyle drive, the flashing red section of highway 101 at the top of the screen. the closure will involve a mile long stretch of road way between lombard street and highway 1. once traffic is taken off of doyle drive crews will move in and begin

demolishing everything marked in red. over the weekend they need to complete a detour route seen in blue that will carry traffic around the construction site for the next couple years. eventually all of doyle drive will be torn down and replaced but the priority this weekend is to remove the sections of old road way. that detour needs to be ready to go by 5:00am monday morning. for anyone coming off of the bridge from marin county they're going to have to detour onto highway 1 which is what you are seeing now. normally you cannot make a left hand turn off of this. this is a california highway. i am told by cal tran that over the weekend left hand turns are going to be allowed at california and then also here at gary boulevard. in san francisco, charles clifford. another look at the information you need to know tonight. the closure is scheduled to begin at 8:00pm.

it runs until 5:00 monday morning. also the work is being done along 101, highway 1 will remain open throughout the weekend. live team coverage continues now. crown 4 jeff bush positioned near doyle drive where demolition crews are revving up. jeff. >> reporter: i am here at mason and hallic. hallic is closed off. you can see why. check it out. there are dozens and dozens of these excavators lined up up and down the over pass that is the approach to the golden gate bridge. all sorts of heavy equipment will be used in the demolition of the road way after it closes. most of them you have seen before at construction sites. check this one out. look at the green attachment that's on the front end of that excavator right there. that's a giant claw that can be used in many different ways. it can grab concrete or steel or move them out of the way if they need to. it can be used to crush

concrete into smaller sizes or to remove sections of material right off of the over pass. it rotates on several different directions and is very versatile. pam. >> all right, jeff. thank you. we'll be touching base with you again. we're also keeping an eye on traffic this friday afternoon. as you can see the reds indicate very slow speeds and this is the golden gate bridge. this is the area we are focusing on as you see the map right there. this area, all slow speeds. then this will be a hot spot right there. take a live look at the golden gate bridge. you can see north bound traffic is pretty slow. it is getting by. south bound traffic into san francisco seems to be moving a bit better. we also have a live picture from lombard street in san francisco, one of the main roads that will be affected here. you can sebrum per to bumper.

only a bus getting by on the right. that is certainly a hot spot. we will continue to follow all the traffic hot spots throughout the later part of the afternoon and into the evening. pam. >> as you might expect the traffic nightmare will effect people in marin county. spoke with a few people about what they are planning to do to avoid doyle drive. will call marin county home this weekend. that is because she has temporarily relocated out of the city because the doyle drive demolition. >> i am just going to be staying with my parents in nevada instead of commuting because it's going to be really bad. >> you don't even want to deal with it. >> no. i can just imagine it's going to be really scary. >> there were many other north bay residents running around trying to finish errands so they could stay home and not face possible traffic jams. >> we are not going to go into the city. we made a commitment not to go

18-mile an hour winds in half man bay. winds are expected to die some into the weekend. calmer winds are expected. a glance at weekend forecast. temperatures warming under sunny skies. a chance of fog returning on sunday. i don't think i would buy it. i will explain that in a bit and we'll take a look at temperatures neighborhood by neighborhood. a cab driver robbed at gun point forced into the trunk of this cab driven around and then dumped more than 30 miles away. it all started around 11:00 last night at the bay point bart station. that's where the cab driver picked up three men. he picked up these three men and then he took them to an apartment complex here in anti okay. that's where they said they wanted to go, the complex on delta fair boulevard in antioch. after he dropped them after at antioch that's when they got out of the car, robbed him at gun point, made him get into his trunk and then drove the

suspect to the oakland hills. the driver at this point is thinking i am going to die. these guys will shoot me here. instead they drove off. the cab driver flagged down help. that's when police got here. we have some video from the scene and the driver managed to get police. the suspects fled. caught up with a woman who saw the suspects at the bay point station before they got into the car. >> i saw three guys walking around. they were walking back and forth. they were just doing nothing but chilling. all of a sudden they entered the cab. that's when i saw it drive off. >> the victim is obviously traumatized as anyone would be. i do know at the point where he was brought out of the trunk of the vehicle and found himself in a wooded area that he had no idea where he was. >> shocked that one of my co- workers was in this kind of situation. >> he is determined to come

back to work, get back on the horse, like most of us. i think most of us would do that. >> it's therapeutic. we are told the cab driver is working today. that is a picture of him. he got into a police cruiser, was given a courtesy ride to antioch. that is his cab recovered in oakland. the three suspects still on the loose. >> oakland police are warning residents about a rise in robberies in the city's fruit bail district. most recent happened yesterday near 36th avenue and international boulevard where two thieves robbed a man. today police van vased the area warning residents about the recent crimes. >> we see an interest in street robberies lately. >> when we look at robberies across the city a majority are occurring in this area. >> what we are looking at is about from freeway 880 north up to about 39, then from 33rd

if there is a connection between the two incidents. the swat team surrounded a home in san jose's rose garden neighborhood this morning after police discovered the body of a man who had been fatally stabbed outside the home. the victim so far has been identified only as a male in his 50s. there were no arrests. several people inside the home have been detained for questioning. the story from early this morning. >> there was somebody arguing about something. i have no idea. >> reporter: a neighbor who does not want his identity known watch the swat team try to get the man to surrender. >> all morning long, they come out. flash things go off about 6:00 trying to wake him up. i thought they were trying to yell at him through the loud speaker. >> reporter: drama began when somebody called 911 to report a man had been stabbed outside. the man later died at the

hospital but when police moved in to question one of the okay pants of the house the situation escalated. >> suddenly, for unknown reasons, he closed a door on the officers, locked himself in the house and told them he didn't want to talk to them any longer and that he was not going to cooperate. >> reporter: having learned there were firearms in the house the swat team was called in as neighborhood was sealed off. three area schools were under orders to shelter in place. neighbors say there was always a lot of commotion, a lot of people coming and going at odd hours and the two brothers were always quarreling. >> always something going on over there. they just live their own life and did what they wanted do pretty much. >> police tossed a phone through the window and called to the suspect for hours. they called in the bomb squad and considering use of police robot for a time before the man surrendered eight hours after the drama began.

crown 4 news. a bond hearing today for the man accused of hearing trayvon martin in florida. zimmerman was not in the courtroom. the judge is considering whether his bond should be raised. that's in light of news that his website raised $200,000 for his defense. he has been free on $150,000 bond. historian says he does not expect the judge is going to raise that. house republicans voted to extend low interest rates on federal student loans. those rates would otherwise double july 1. but this particular version of the bill is not going to get very far. republicans want to take the money to pay for it out of the president's healthcare reform program, and the president has said no way. he will veto that. both parties agree that the low rates on student loans should be extended but they'll have to agree on another way to get the funding. the president and first lady

visited fort stewart georgia in front of about 13,000 troops. they got a big welcome, the president promising he will crack down on deceptive pitches from career colleges and technical programs. he says some schools are going after military men and women just for the money available from their gi bill benefits. >> three years ago i made your generation a promise. i said that when your tour comes to an end, when you see our flag, when you touchdown on our soil, you will be coming home to an america that will forever fight for you, just as you fought for us. >> not a lot the federal government can do to shut down diploma mills but the new protections would make it harder for schools to misrepresent themselves to mill stare students. shuttle enterprise took a final flight today to meet its new home in new york city.

jose. 80 in dan ville, 82 in pittsburgh, 83 in antioch. 70s for east bay shores but clinging to the upper 60s. close to the coastline is tricky. sea breeze winds intact through the weekend. we'll have fairly strong winds out of the north. i think those winds out of the north will keep fog from forming along the coastline until monday. but temperatures still fairly cool at ocean beach. 59 degrees. 67 in san francisco to show you the differs the sea breeze winds make just a few miles away into oakland. 70. extended forecast, it will be warmer this weekend, reaching 80s in inland valleys especially sunday. monday the fog will return especially along the coastline. tuesday, more fog throughout the bay area. we do have a slight chance of rain as we head towards the end of next week. now it is a very slight chance. we'll just keep cloud cover in the forecast. we'll be back after this.

now. at 5:30 you are looking at a live picture of lombard street in san francisco which leads to the approach to the golden gate bridge. two and a half hours away from the closure of doyle drive, everybody is being warned to stay away from the bridge area this weekend if at all possible. charles clifford joins us live with the story. charles. >> reporter: i am standing at the corner here in san francisco's richmond district. in two and a half hours this area will become a critical intersection for people trying to get back and forth from the golden gate bridge. the closure on doyle drive begins tonight at 8:00 and continues until 5:00 monday morning. what's going to happen is they're going to close down doyle drive which is the southern approach to the golden gate bridge. it connects highway 101 hum barred street to the bridge. if you look at the map, the area where they're working is marked in red. all that will be closed down.

highway 1 off to the left there will remain open. anyone who needs to get to the golden gate bridge needs to take highway 1 and also if they're getting off the bridge, you have to take highway 1 to connect with the rest of the city or get back to highway 1 -- highway 101. live now, here normally you can't make a left hand turn. i am told over the weekend they will have officers out here helping people make left hand turns onto gary boulevard and also california street to help people get off of the bridge smoothly. live in san francisco, charles clifford, crown 4 news. police on the look out for a man who attempted to kidnap a teen-age girl as she walked to school. police released this sketch earlier today of the man they're looking for. they say he is likely in his early 20s, about 6 feet tall,

weighing 180 pounds. >> reporter: the girl who escaped from her attacker told me she still can't believe what happened. she was too broken up to talk about it on camera but told me it happened behind me right here. she was walking to her school, san francisco christian school, when a man came up to her and grabbed her. it happened along this sidewalk. the man said she was coming with him. there was a scuffle, she screamed, broke loose and ran away. officials say this happened at 7:40 thursday morning, a very busy hour of the day. >> physically she was fine. just emotionally obviously distressed and upset. we are thankful to the lord that she was able to get away and escape and there is nothing serious beyond the emotional threat that affected her. >> reporter: another look at the suspect police are looking for. he is believed to be in his early 20s with dark bushy hair and a thin mustache. while the victim did not want to talk with me, i spoke with a

number of her friends about what happened. you will hear what they had to say in my 8:00 story. reporting in san francisco, j.r. stone crown 4 news. oakland police investigating the city's 40th homicide of the year. >> reporter: the man shot here on 34th at a major thorough fare up the road. you can see the head lights. located on the street is this church. this neighborhood is not exactly the safest neighborhood because you can see businesses have bars over the windows and not just the businesses but also some of the homes. i can tell you that this is the third murder in oakland since saturday and also there was a murder just this past wednesday a couple miles from this location. reporting from oakland will tran, crown 4 news. also in oakland police arrested two men suspected of robbing people in the downtown area. you see their pictures here.

they were arrested on sunday on robbery and assault charges. they're accused of robbing two people at knife point in downtown oakland. police say both men were identified by victims. they're looking into the possibilities that they may be responsible for other robberies in the same area. grant. a violent hit and run all caught on tape. two guys riding bikes in berkeley. the bike behind this one has a camera mounted on it. you can see the wheel, handle bars on either side. they're on tunnel road near entrance to highway 24. you can see the bikes are within the shalier where they should be in the bioclean. a car plows into them. both men fall fortunately and somehow they're okay. we'll slow it down because the video captures a lot. the car drifts over and bam side swipes the bicyclist in front, bicyclist behind also. you can make out the license

plate right there real quick. second bicyclist what hitting his head on the street. the rider who had a camera posted this video and comment on youtube. he said they took this video to police who got the license plate and tracked down the car and driver. we have contacted berkeley police to see where things stand with the driver of the car who just took off after nailing those two bicyclists. so far we haven't heard back from police. certainly a dramatic hit and run. crown 4 news. in other news around the bay, a $20,000 reward now being offered to help track the person who set fire to a home twice. the home targeted is located in the vista delmont aneighborhood. arsonists started the first blaze in october. it seriously hurt the family dog. no people were home at the time. then in january the arsonists

struck again lighting the same home on fire. no injuries in the second blaze. deputies say they have arrested a pitch fork yielding teenager who tried to burglaries a home in half moon bay. the suspected first broke out basement windows and started to bang on the door of the home. an elderly woman answered and the suspect waved a pitch fork after her. he fled but when officers arrived they tracked down the teen by following blood likely caused when the teen tried to smash the window. live look outside or rather at our current temperatures now, seeing warmer conditions around the bay area this afternoon. temperatures in the 70s in inland valleys. cooler closer to the coastline. 55 in half moon bay, 59 in san francisco. giants have a home stand this weekend against the poydrases. game ton at at 7:15.

terror attack, not the only theory though. opposition lawmaker claims this would be a government plot to divert attention to -- violence undermined security just weeks before it is going to cohost european soccer championships in june. thousands of marines and their families will be leaving okinawa. this is part of a deal. the idea is to reduce us military presence in japan. rougherly 9000 marines will be leaving, no timetable yet. there has been a lot of friction between residents in the military, it calls for the us to get out escalated after the rain of a 12 year old japanese girl by three us service members. stay with us. more news after the break.

markets, stocks closed slightly hire despite mixed economic news. dow jones gained back all its losses for the month finishing 24 points you up to close at 13,228. the nasdaq picked up almost 19 points to close at 3069. s&p 500 gained 3 points. the stocks were helped by profit reports from online retailer amazon and travel website ex peed i can. chevron says its profits rows in the first quarter as it sold oil for higher prices. san row moan energy giant reported earnings of nearly 6 and a half billion dollars for first 3 months of the year. that compares with 6.21 billion in 2011. the results met to wall street expectations. chevron, second largest petroleum company in the united states behind exxonmobil produced less oil and gas in the quarter.

it made up for the decline by selling oil at higher prices. profits for ford took a hit in the wake of economic troubles overseas. today the auto company announced 45% drop in first quarter profits. it is mostly from losses in europe and in asia. ford reported net inincome of $1.4 million. that's less than what it earned in the same period for 2011. revenue declined. a teenager could be charged for criminal assault for a violent hockey hit. a tradition continues. take a look at this. >> a high school hockey game in massachusetts, take a look at this. we'll watch the video first in regular speed so you can see them rushing towards the goal. watch, check boom on the ground. watch it slowed now. keep an eye here.

skies. temperatures about 5 to 10 degrees warmer. 70 in concord, 65 in oakland, 64 in red wood city. closer to the coastline temperatures are cooler, 55 in half moon bay. still seeing sea breeze winds this afternoon. we'll see them through the weekend. it looks like fog will stay at bay because we have stronger winds coming out of the north. a look at your weekend forecast. sunny skies, warmer temperatures still near 80 in a number of places. into sunday i still don't think we'll see much fog. temperatures will continue to move. into monday the fog will return mainly for the coastline. take a look at temperatures for tomorrow morning. we'll stay fairly mild, will see some breezy conditions overnight. it will help temperatures stay at the level in the upper 40s and low 50s. 49 in napa, 51 in concord and 50 in san jose.

the other being highway 101 which runs west along lombard and connects with the bridge. but tonight in about two hours doyle drive, highway 101 connecting to the bridge will be shut down and all traffic will be forced to come here and use this route to get to the golden gate bridge. officials are asking people or drivers to avoid this area completely. it could be a mess. if you have to drive across the golden gate bridge or you have to get from marin to san francisco, there are options. through this weekend's closure of doyle drive the primary alternative being recommended for drivers traveling between san francisco and marin county is to take 80 across the bridge and to connect with 580 which will cross and meet up with highway 101 in san rafael. opposite route recommended for drivers going from marin to the city. for people who need to make the

crown 4 jeff bush joining us with more on the demolition that's about to get underway. jeff. >> reporter: that's right pam. you can see all the heavy equipment is lined up in place for the big demolition that will start in a little bit. workers have shown up in groups wearing hard hats and reflective vests for safety. heavy machinery is slowly coming to life and will be involved in the demolition of the sections that approach golden gate bridge. dozens of excavators are lined up and will be involved to reduce this structure to a pile of steel and concrete. this is incredibly powerful equipment these workers will be using. it's a massive under taking that has taken years to plan out. there is a lot of work to get done in a relatively short amount of time. pam. >> alternate routes include ferry service from marin county to san francisco through the

community. one woman tells crown 4 she is well aware of the problem. >> i have seen a couple in the last month and actually had been at this corner, this area right here, most recent one was maybe within a week where a lady was just walking down, a car pulled by the sidewalk and just got and snatched her purse and went back to his car and took off. i don't wear a purse. i wear recyclable bag because i know of the crime going on here. >> oakland police say check cashing businesses appear to be attracting robbers to the fruit veil area. investigators say hispanic members of the community have been the primary target. san jose police trying to find what if any connection exists between fatal stabbing of a man and eight hour standoff between another man and a swat team in a

neighborhood. it happened here as you see in this video in san jose rose garden area. police say somebody in the home called 911 about 1:45 in the morning to report a man had been stabbed outside the home. he died at the hospital. later as police were questioning a resident, he became uncooperative and retreated into the home where police suspected there were firearms. a swat team was called. the neighborhood was sealed and three schools in the area were under orders to shelter in place. >> from that point on, it was just a matter of trying to establish communication with that individual in the house. we tried all morning long. we tried different techniques. the officers going up there calling out to him face to face, trying to get a face to face communication going. the guy was not responding. we were looking at also possibly using the bomb squad's robot which has capability, has

a microphone and i believe a speaker. there is a capability of communication. i believe before we were able to deploy it, this individual voluntarily exited the house. >> police are not yet saying whether the man who held off the swat team is a suspect in the stapping case, only that he and several others in the home were detained for questioning. the stabbing victim by the way was identified only as a male in his 50s. that is the tenth homicide so far this year in san jose. we are always tracking neighborhood crime. in this crown 4 crime tracker it comes from the -- a string of vehicle thefts in one specific san jose neighborhood. right near where 280 and 101 intersect. seven cars stolen in the past week all within about five blocks of one another. most are being stolen overnight. owners come out the next morning, find cars missing. police advise residents to lock

at the antioch bart station. he drove them to an apartment complex in antioch. that's when one of the men pulled out a gun and robbed the driver. after that, the driver was thrown into the trunk of his own taxi. eventually the men dropped the victim off in oakland and then they drove away. the driver flagged down a good samaritan and the police were called. antioch police say this type of crime is not common in their city. >> they have a victim who is a taxi driver kidnapped, brought to oakland from our city, i can't remember a time when that's occurred. i am aware that oakland and san francisco -- cases involving taxi drivers in their city to see if there are any similarities or trends that we're seeing that may indicate it's the same folks.

tied detergent may do more than clean your clothes. it may expose you to cancer causing chemical. according to the new york times the detergent contains trace amounts of dioxin. it is found this may cause cancer in lab rats. environmental and health advocacy groups asked proctor and gamble to change the formula of tied. a toxicologist says the amount is well below the safety risk level. results show a third of america workers do not get enough sleep. the cdc says nearly 41 million workers sleep fewer than six hours a night. no surprise there that people who work nights are more likely to sleep less. health officials say this puts people at risk for serious and sometimes deadly situations. national sleep foundation recommends that adults sleep 7 to 9 hours a night.
