clear conditions bay area wide. a little bit of cloud cover situated on the coastline. in the afternoon sunny skies. it's expected to be the hottest day of the week and your temperatures out the door are on the up side. mid 50s for downtown san francisco and richmond. into the lunch time hour it looks like the majority of us will be sitting in the 70s if not the 80s. as we advance the clock in your afternoon highs it looks like we start to see some red which indicates the potential for some 90s. 82 expected for downtown san francisco. we do have cloud cover way beyond the coastline. so expect mostly clear conditions. high pressure aloft around all of california. so pretty warm temperatures as we head into summer. we do have some changes to talk about as we head into tomorrow. i will have all that in your seven-day in my next report. >> thanks so much, erica.

let's look at our bridges in the bay area right now. no hot spots right now. we are seeing an influx of traffic around the bay bridge. a quick check on the golden gate bridge. as usual very light traffic at this hour. 4:03. much more weather and traffic in a few minutes. now on to headlines this morning. federal investigators will be on the scene today of a fire in west oakland that nearly a week ago shut down bart service for tens of thousands of commuters. three alarms at its peak. it happened six days ago, last thursday morning, causing the transway 2 to shut down. atf will be back on the scene today. we have crews en route to find out what, if anything, new they have discovered. thee men were seen leaving the area around the time of the fire. so far it has been ruled suspicious. well, not a whole lot of

action at last night's ethics commission hearing in the case of suspended sheriff ross mirkarimi. members week mirkarimi. it all stems from the sheriff's' guilty plea to misdemeanor false imprisonment. that plea is in connection with an argument with a new year's eve argument. this is bruises of her showing her arm to friends. that video now expected to be a key piece of evidence. >> and mayor ed lee spoke out before that hearing saying his opinions have not changed. >> you know, i think that as one of the top law enforcement

officials for the city he ought not to have engaged in the beating of his wife. i mean, that's what it comes down. >> the mayor also mentioned there is no word on how much money the city has spent dealing with this issue. well, the judge in the jerry sandusky section abuse case says he expects the defense to rest this afternoon. that means that today is the last chance for sandusky himself to take the stand. it was his wife's turn yesterday. ed payne reports. >> reporter: dottie sandusky told jurors she remembers at least six of her husband's accusers staying overnight at her house but she didn't see any inappropriate contact. on cross-examination she said her husband was usual lit one to go downstairs to say good night them. the defense called a series of character witnesses. among them joyce porter, a long time friend of the sanduskys. she later told cnn that sandusky's showers were the boys were innocent, including the one coach mike mcqueary witnessed

as a graduate assistant more than a decade ago. porter said that boy, who has not been identified, may have been young enough to need help. >> he was like a father figure to a lot of these kids. he helped them take a shower. who knows how old this boy was? where is this little boy that mike mcqueary supposedly saw? why hasn't he come forward if there is even a witness to say that this happened? >> reporter: also tuesday defense psychologist said sandusky has histrionic personality disorder. the condition is packed by a need for attention, admiration and intimasy. a psychologist for the prosecution disputed the diagnosis saying he determined sandusky does not have the disorder. the oakland city council approves a $1 billion deal to turn the army base into a logistics center. that paves the way for the developers to transform the base

into a state of the art facility that manages cargo and out of the port of oakland of the project is expected to bring thousands of jobs to the city. construction on the warehouse set to begin in 2015. a woman is dead after she was hit by a amtrak train in union city. officials say the woman was trespassing on the tracks when she was hit around 6:00 last night. this happened between 8 and j streets. she was in her 40s and 50s. she has the not been identified just yet. the capital porter train traveling from sacramento to san jose had 190 passengers onboard. well, a man accused of stealing bicycles from bart trains has been arrested. investigators are now hoping the return of a half dozen stolen bikes to the rightful owners will happen here in the near future. the suspect is 47-year-old brett major of san francisco. upon searching his home officers discovered seven bike frames and numerous bicycle parts. they have now posted pictures of the bikes only hope the rightful

owners will come forward to claim their property. if you want to take a closer look at the bikes you can find a link at our website on k ron 4.com. egypt's former president is on life support this morning. hosni mubarak is clinically dead, officials say, and that happened right when he got to the hospital. he had been serving life in prison for the killing of anti-government demonstrators during the country's uprising. his health has reportedly been getting worse since his removal from power last year. a man rammed a motorcycle packed with explosives into an international military convoy. this happened in afghanistan in the eastern province of khost. it's not clear if any international soldiers were killed or wounded.

well, stock futures right now pointing to a flat open. the dow is negative by 23 by the nasdaq and s&p are slightly positive this morning. investigators ever waiting for the federal reserve's next move on how or if they will stimulate the economy. fed chief ben bernanke will hold a press conference at 11:15 this morning. stocks finished up 1% ahead of the announcement. we will let you know when those figures come in. we have much more to get to here on k ron morning news on the first day of summer. 4:09 is the time. we'll be right back.

washington after the two-day g-20 summit in mexico. the president called on europe to get its financial house in order. >> reporter: president obama and or leaders came the g-20 summit with a message for europe. move towards a solution towards the euro-zone crisis and the four nations along with the eu represented here in last cab owes say they are committed to that end. still, president obama whose re-election prospects hinge on the state of the u.s. economy which hinges very much on the state of the european economy tried to sound on a confident note. >> i am confident europe will paint a picture of where we need to go. take some immediate steps that are required to give them that time and space and based on the conversations that i have had here today and the

conversations that i have had over the last several months i'm confident that they are very much committed to the european project. >> reporter: the violence in syria was another big topic here at the summit, albeit on the sidelines. but president obama walked away still very much in disagreement with both china and russia. president obama has said bashar al-saud must go. but because of the violence there is no way he can leave the country legitimately. putin says his position remains unchanged. he said no country should tell another country who should be in power. rihanna keeler, cnn. also on capitol hill senate majority leader harry reid getting a lot of buzz this morning for a joke he made when asked about the dream act. he quoted 19-year-old bryce harper. >> i don't want to answer that

good morning. more police officers will patrol san francisco's bayview district after a recent jump in the number of shootings there. supervisor malia cohen made this request and the police chief has agreed. the chief has assigned his current class of police academy graduates to bayview for 14 weeks of field training. >> i am looking to get more people, more foot patrol walking the beat. walking the merchant corridors, third street, san bernardino avenue where a lot of crime is happening particularly through the hours of 7 and 10:00 p.m. when people are getting off of work, when kids are getting out of school, particularly their summer programs to create a sense of security. another set of eyes and ears. to work with the merchants. to work with the policing strategies that we already have in place. >> now, those new graduates are

not rookies. all of them have been with other police departments. the move will increase the police presence by 7 to 12 officers each fight. some s.w.a.t. teams are also being sent to the area. in an effort to crack down on vandals san francisco is beefing up the number of police patrols in city parks. this comes after a high profile incident in april where vandals targeted dolores park. that park had just undergone a $3.5 million renovation. mayor lee announced yesterday that nine park patrol positions will be filled by the end of this year. funding for the new patrols will come from the city's general fund. and the u.s. labor department is announcing a $6 million that will continue reemployment services for more than 4,000 laid off nume workers. the fremont plant closed. an initial $19 million emergency grant was given in june of 10 to provide training and support

services to help former employees of that plant prepare for and get jobs. this new supplemental grant will continue those services. america's gymnastics. the finals of the u.s. olympics trials and all over the city you can see they are starting to fear this big event. not only will it bring world class athletes to the south bay, it could prove to be financially lucrative. >> it's good for business. it good for the hotels, restaurants. it's good for the image and reputation of san jose. the opportunity for san jose to showcase the best activity in the sport in the world. it's going to be happening right here. >> the finals run from the 28th to the 1st and the olympic teams will be named at the end of the competition. officials of the hp pavilion say there are still a few tickets available if you are

interested, james. and the olympics start at the end of july. >> i am in no shape. >> you are not supposed to try out. you can go watch. you think you could go be an -- >> i am not even in shape enough to watch. >> you have to bend down and touch your toes, could you bend down and touch your toes? >> briefly. let's go on to weather. good morning, erica. >> good morning to you both. we are turning our attention to weather this morning. overall clear conditions. as we take a look at some of the temperatures outside the door we are off it a relatively warm start. however, we have a range from upper 40s for places like half moon bay. some locations in the 60s. mountain view at 61 degrees. 62 in hayward. as we look ahead it looks like this afternoon is expected to be the hottest day of the week. no surprise later on this evening it is the start of the summer solstice. tomorrow, however, for the first official day of summer looks like we are in store for a big

cooldown. temperatures struggle to make it into the 70s. it looks like into the weekend we will continue with that cooling trend. we don't have any wet weather to speak of. just dry continues and campbell 89 degrees, 85 santa clara. we have seal an abundance of low 90s in the inland valleys fairfield 91. 93 over in anitoch. low 90s also for walnut creek. 81 in union city. then for the most part we will keep in the 70s for east shores. 80s in the north bay. plenty of sunshine there. downtown san francisco with an afternoon high of 72 degrees. 64 for ocean beach and upper 60s in daily city. now in terms of that seven-day around the bay extended forecast past today mountains just how much cooler conditions get. we'll see a trend of morning fog and afternoon sunshine. but again temperatures will only make it into the 70s barely

for your inland areas and then 60s around the bay. keeping it in the upper 50s, so relatively chilly for some of our coastal communities. in the traffic center i am not looking at any hot spots or major accidents around the bay area. pretty quiet at the bay bridge toll plaza out of oakland and the city. heading to the san mateo bridge no problems getting will. and your golden gate bridge ride clear out there with lots of space between cars. over on our traffic maps no major problems in the east bay this morning. we do have the anitoch bridge one-way traffic control in effect to five to morning. westbound highway 4 looks pretty good. same goes for interstate 80 in the westbound direction. down in the south bay no problems to alert you to. you will will see a lot of green on the roadway censors. a drive of only 2 minutes out of -- 22 minutes out of novoto.

commuters. the wreckage and when investigators are going to -- what investigators are going to try to figure out today. >> reporter: they are going to figure out why this fire started. in a perfect world this would have been a five-story senior center. you can see it's completely destroyed. they have been here for the past couple of days asking people if they have even any suspicious activity, talking to potential witnesses. the structure because it was still smoldering for a little while they couldn't go in. plus, they weren't sure if it was safe to walk around. you can see some of the scaffolding, some of the infrastructure, the skeleton of the building in place. now they feel it's safe to collect physical evidence. the atf, they have been called in. this is their expertise, along with the oakland fire department. they will be, working with them to go through there to see what caused this fire. i was here one week ago when the oakland police department as well as the fire department, they believed there were suspicious people around this

place around 2:15 when the fire started. they don't have a cause of the fire, but with the help of the atf perhaps they will find out. >> there were other investigators that will be out there today. we will check in with will and try to get an update i'm hoping on the three reportedly suspicious people that a security guard saw before that fire. we will check back with you at 5:00. now on to the latest in san francisco where there wasn't a whole lot going on last night during the ethics commission hearing in the case of suspended san francisco sheriff ross mir carimi. next week could be a different story. he could be kicked out of office by mayor lee. all of this stems from the sheriff's guilty plea to misdemeanor false empress. . now, that plea is in connection with a new year's eve he had with his wife where he grabbed

julian assange is beyond their grasp as long as he is holed up in ecuador's embassy. they are saying he is beyond the reach of police and was working with ecuador to resolve the situation. the 40-year-old australian took refuge yesterday and said he was seeking political asylum. ecuador says it is considering this request. assange has been fighting contradiction to sweden where he is wanted in questioning of two sexual assaults of his volunteers. we are going to take a break at 4:39. we have a like look at mount tameka foster to show you here where we have hazy conditions over san francisco. it's going to be hot today. stick around. another forecast coming up in a moment.

waited for the federal reserve's next move as to whether it's going to stimulate the economy. fed chief ben bernanke is scheduled to speak at an 11:15 press conference. stocks finished up about a percent ahead of the announcement. the mortgage index and dit a on crude inventories are due later this week. facebook is letting app developers charge for subscription fees along with existing one-time payments for games and other apps on its site. the subscriptions will be featured and be available in july. the changes open up new revenue streams for developers as well as for facebook, which will take a 30% cut. payment for virtual items such as chips on zyng a's poker accounted for 17% of facebook's revenue in the 1st quarter. let's go back outside.

we are back at 4:45. the latest in the search for missing teenager sierra lamar. the sheriff's dive team will continue its search of chesbro reservoir. her alleged killer antolin torres went fishing there. there is a connection. deputies plan to use sonar to scan the reservoir bottom for any possible evidence. >> this is a particular reservoir that was searched early on in the case. however, the difference with this new additional search is we are checking this reservoir

with new sonar. the hope is to see if this equipment will pick up on something or any evidence that maybe wasn't, you know, located the first time around. >> so here's how that high-definition sonar sees the bottom of the reservoir. the deputies point it at about 40 feet of water. anything that it can't identify will be inspected later in the week. a nevada man is accused of stealing nearly $400,000 from the band pearl jam. since 2005 rickgy goode rich worked as the tour accountant and in house cfo. in 2010 an internal investigation found $6,500 in bulk purchases and $15,000 in road cash payments, though goode rich has not been arrested. morgan hill police need your help this morning tracking down

a suspect in an apparent hit-and-run that left a man with serious injuries over the weekend. police found joshua valdez unconscious leaning up against a tree near butterfield boulevard and san pedro avenue early saturday morning. valdez was on his way home when he was hit. police have little information about what happened after that. police in santa clara have arrested a man for attacking a man with a machete like weapon. they say he went to his neighbor's place uninvited on saturday night. he was supposedly going will to complain at the noise. he came at his neighbor with a large knife. leon was later arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, burglary and resisting police officers. well, one of the greenest buildings in the country is set to open today in san francisco. the new public utilities commission building officially opens today on the corner of golden gate avenue and polk street. it's a 13 story $200 million

project that includes wind turbines, solar panels and its own water efficiency system. a new plan by san francisco's city agencies looks to remove cars from market street all together. a better market street plan aims to reestablish market street as a premiere cultural and economic center for san francisco. supporters say that a key part of this plan is to eliminate private vehicles from the streets. city agencies plan to hold a series of workshops next month so they can hear what you have to say about this. and then they will work with interested parties to create a plan by the end of the year. also this morning autopsy results into the death of rodney king are not expected now for several more weeks. but we are now hearing those frantic 2009 calls.

square miles and has destroyed more homes than any other fire in the state's history. the fire in the northern part of the state is 55% contained this morning. today marks the official start of summer and it's already heating up across the northeast part of country. in fact, they are looking for some really hot temperatures especially near philadelphia, new york, boston. all expected to approach the triple digits today. the humidity in those areas could make it feel hotter than that. stay out of the sun and check on the elderly and pets as well. erica on tap with a look at 90-degree weather here. >> yeah, we anticipate 90s for some of our warmest inland area. you will want to dress in layers and keep a water bottle handy. as of right now enjoying clear conditions for the most part overlooking our mount target a movie cam.

coming in at 91 degrees. walnut creek could reach an afternoon high of 82. for the most part we will kuip it in the 70s for east shores. looks like downtown san francisco pretty comfortable at 72 degrees. 64 for ocean beach. upper 60s for daily city and upper 70s for those of you in san mateo. satellite and radar picture shows clear conditions along the coastline. we do have high pressure building all across california. so expect warm conditions. it's expected to be the hottest day of the week. again, we do have a big cooldown as we transition into tomorrow. you will see that for yourself on your seven-day forecast. temperatures go from the 90s back down into the mid 70s. we'll really get into a pattern of morning fog and afternoon sunshine with temperatures really struggling to even make it into the 70s for your warmest inland areas. now, over in the traffic center i am not looking at any hot

day around the bay coming up in a bit. >> as we look at a commute without any hot spots this morning, and nice quiet start, here is a look at the bay bridge. light traffic heading toward the toll plaza, and it's a pretty light and easy ride all over the east pay, south pay, peninsula, and the north bay as well. we begin this hour with a new story. crews are on the scene of a fire at a paint supply store in oakland that started just before 4:00 this morning. it has been knocked down. the cause of that blaze is unknown, but the investigation is underway. another fire that we're watching, as federal investigators will be back on the scene today of that fire in west oklahoma city that just about a week ago shut down the bart service for tens of thousands of commuters. we go to the very latest. good morning, will. >> reporter: good morning,

justine. this was supposed to be a seniors center. said if now it's a crime scene with the atf people reportedly back out this morning, finally being able to walk through the structure, because days after the fire was still smoldering, not to mention it was dangerous for them to walk through. here is video of the fire that you just mentioned. it happened last thursday at around 2:15 in the morning. security guards have been around this place ever since construction began. reportedly three teenagers harassed the security guards, and shortly after that, the fire started. we done know if there's a direct correlation. neither does the oakland fire department, but because this also involves transportation and it's probably beyond their expertise, that they asked the at f to come in and do some investigating. for the past couple of days, they've talked to witnesses and security guards to find out what they know, but now comes the physical part, to be able

false imprisonment. was in regard to an argument that he had with his wife. during that fight, her arm was bruised, and during this video,, she, she shows her friend the bruise on the arm. mayor ed lee spoke out before that hearing says that his opinions have not claims, and the believes the sheriff did commit official misconduct after that incident with this wife, and offered some harsh words. >> you know, i think that as one of the top law enforcement officials for the city, he ought not to have engaged in the beating of his wife. i mean, that's what it comes down to. >> the mayor also mentioned that there's no word on how much money the city has spent dealing with this issue. well, the oklahoma city city council approves a $1 billion deal to turn the city's former army base into a logistics warehousing center.

that deal paves the way for developers to transform the base into a state of the art facility. so big, big plans here for this area. the project is expected to bring thousands of jobs into the city, with officials agree agreeing to give oklahoma city residents 50% of those execution joshes. work on the wear house scheduled to begin in 2015. a man accused of stealing bicycles from bart trains has now been arrested. investigators are hoping to return about a half a dozen stolen bikes to their rightful owners. upon searching majors home, officers found several bike frames and numerous bicycle parts. they have posted pictures of the bikes on-line, hoping that the rightful owners will come forward to claim their property, and if any of the bikes turn out to be stolen, major could face some additional charges. you want to take a closer look at the bike babies you had one of yours stolen, you can find a

egyptian officials say hosni mubarak is in a coma, but off life support. the state run middle east news agency has been saying that mubarak is clinically dead. military officials countered, saying he is alive, but in critical condition after his heart stopped. this right here is video of mubarak during his trial earlier this month. he was charged in the killings of antigovernment demonstrators during the revolution that

ousted him from the presidency. his health has been reported to be in decline since he was ousted, and we have some other new video to show you right now, as thousands of egyptians gathered as word spread that mubarak was either dead or close to death. you can see them chanting and protesting here. to the questions still remain over who will succeed the former leader 16 months after he was ousted by that popular uprising. both candidates in last week's presidential election are still claiming victory. well, an explosion in afghanistan has left at least 10 people dead this morning. afghan officials say a man rammed a motorcycle packed with explosives into an international military convoy. 13 people were wounded. hospital officials say a police officer and a teenager are among the dead. no word yet on any possible soldier casualties. also, american military investigators are recommending that as many as 7 troops face administrative punishments in connection with the burning of

corinnes at a -- korans at a u.s. military base. it said off defend live riots. you can see here video of some of those riots. the recommendation does not include a court-martial or any criminal charges. firefighters are now making progress on that massive wildfire in northern colorado that has destroyed more homes than any other in the state's history. the large wildfire west of fort collins has now burned 93 square miles, and is only 55% contained after firefighters labored in temperatures that were in the 90s. we're finding out now that there are cooler temperatures expected for today with an isolated thunderstorm tomorrow. that could respect help in the firefighting efforts. the fire has destroyed about 190 homes since it started with a lightning strike on june 9th.

fire officials say it could be weekors even months before it is fully contained. >> and a quick update now on tropical storm chris. at last check it stunt look like it's going to threaten land at all. it's winds reached 45 miles per hour earlier this morning. forecasts expect little change in those wind speeds. it is not expected to strengthen, and will likely fizzle out by thursday. on that note, let's talk about our weather here around the bay. we're looking for a warm one day. >> it's a great start to the morning. temperatures not too bad. we're actually on the warm side. we don't have that dense fog to deal with like we did for a couple of days this week, and you'll see downtown san francisco coming in at 55 degrees, so about four degrees warmer than. that we saw 24 hours ago. upper 50s for san jose. looks like san carlos and livermore are opening up to -- waking up to 59 degrees.

by about 12:00, we really don't see too many 60s around the bay. so mostly our coastal locations could actually get into the low 70s, and a majority of low 80s, potentially see something low 90s, and then as we push that clock forward to 3:00 p.m., you'll see that red start to trick until and filling in the screen, which does show the potential for some 90s. for the most part in the south pay, we'll keep it in the 80s. 85 for santa clara. we could be a couple of degrees warmer than that in campbell. however, those 90s are reserved for inland east bay valleys, concord coming in at 91, and antioch an afternoon high of 93 degrees. for the most part, we'll keep it in the 70s for east shores. an abundance of 80s in the north bay. plenty of sunshine for downtown san francisco. the hottest day of the week there with an afternoon high of

update. >> teachers and parents of students at lake view elementary school are not giving up their fight to keep that school open. today marks the 6th day they have been camped out. they are demanding that lake view and four other schools in the visit remain open. police officers approached them against yesterday, telling them they have to leave, they're trespassing. oakland mayor jean kwan might have to pay out of her own pocket if the city fails to meet police internal affairs investigations. this from the occupy oakland protest. a judge has agreed to the city's plans for completing dozens of overdue investigations, but warned that he might fine the city for missing deadlines, and could each fine the mayor themselves.
