is looking excellent and they have a great shot for lots of medals at the olympic games. >> ysabel: how much does that take you back and you see those young women there? >> it always takes me back with those young women and the from the stands i have a different perspective. so i get to relax but i am always here as an import-- ambassador for gymnastics to give them advice they need if not i'm to to support them. >> marty: there is a lot of advice that you can give them and you talk about in the book you talk about the fact that you had to hide injuries and deal with overbearing parents and coaches tell us about your experiences. >> yes, a lot of times when you're young and you are a pre pubescent teenager you are free to speak up and talk about a lot of things and a lot of time the coaches in that position of power they do not want you to speak up and talk about your injuries they just want

to take you tough and valentines you have to make sure that the fet emotional and physical well-being are being placed first above anything else. and to make sure that win at all cost mentality is not taking over and that is the well-being of the athlete first and foremost. >> ysabel: you trained under one of the most well-known coaches and to amend the on the other side think so highly of him, how you felt about him? you are very dependent upon him helping you get to what you dream about and you also had this push and pull relationship with him. >> absolutely, there were to have cultural thinks that the my family could relate to because they were from the same culture of room in the sand. i think a lot of times they may have used that and taken advantage of it in my situation but behind closed doors is a very different story than

what people see on television. i think in my book i talk about that so openly and candidly and how they did hurt me in a lot of ways like trying to make the train on injuries and not be able to speak up which eventually led to a stress factor before the olympic games and those types of things are harmful to our sport and haunt the gymnast >> marty: we have pictures the other olympians with the stress fractures and plowing through it but they seem heroic that is the short term we did not see the long term but nothing happened before and after the injury. >> right, you see them a short period of time in their lives and all of these things could have long-term effects the also psychologically and emotionally i think it is important that the athletes have a good experience in the sport and that comes at the hand of the people and the coaches and how they treat them in this sport because that is extremely

important because they have the rest of their lives to go on after the sport in the my goal is for a kinder and more a lee system so that the girls can come out of the sport healthy of mine body and soul. >> ysabel: speaking of that you look like to have a wonderful life you have a husband and two children, you got through college where did you make that turn? >> i think a lot of it went i started to meet my husband reconnected in 2001. he met me at a time where i lost a lot of my love and passion for gymnastics because of the way that i was treated in the sport he held me to find the fire and passion and then can he help me to bring the glove back that i started this war with. it was all a mindset. i wanted to let go of the past and the demons and seven years of getting all out on paper and taking seven years to heal and write this book, it has been a long process the very healing. >> marty: we would be remiss if we did not mention the other secret part of this book and that was discovering that you had a sister that you did not know

anything about. >> yes, my life probably is likely movie to some people when you're reading it, but yes finding out about my sister in 2007 was one of the biggest shocks of my life. i was becoming a mother losing my father and gaining a sister and a daughter all the while trying to complete my undergraduate degree. i was nine months pregnant in the midst of graduate exams. it was a lot for me to take can but it has a happy ending. i walk people through all those emotions in the book. >> ysabel: you are right, it does sound like the movie we will wait for that. >> yes i know, there has been some talk about is a we will see. >> marty:
