we're back. search teams are looking for a man who went hiking in the sierra nevada. tom hang left on what was supposed to be a day hike over 14,000 feet tall but never returned. dozens of people have joined in the search t will resume at daylight. police are investigating the theft of more than $12,000 worth of tickets for the gill roy garlic festival. 1000 tickets were stolen from the festival association office sometime between june 5th and july 2nd. half of those tickets were for adults the other were for children and senior admission. police say that some of the tickets have been sold on line. all of them though will not be honored at entrance gates f you purchased them, you will be

denied entrance when you arrive. >> man accused of setting the robber's fire that burn 3d thousand acres appeared in court yesterday. bail was increased to brian mason to $500,000. he faces two charges. 12 firefighters were hurt during the battle of that fire. police arrested the 28-year-old suspect last friday. they estimate the cost for fighting the fire at more than $13 million. the fire is now fully contained. lightning strikes have sparked dozens of wildfires most are in northern california. we have a update. >> and between sunday and monday more than 73 confirmed wildfires were started as a result of lightning strikes. this a week where the firefighters have pretty much put out every wildfire that was burning in california. let's take a look at a earth

map. officials say 2800 lightning strikes landed across california in the northern half of the state and the strikes triggered fires, most were small, some burning a single tree or a few acres. they have put out most of these quickly. the dense concentration is in el dorado between sacramento and lake tahoe. this is the lightning complex fire. 1800 strikes were recorded in the counties. tuesday evening cal fire updated stats. there are 19 active here and 54- acres have been burned. firefighters have the fires 80% contained f all goes -- if all goes well, they hope for full containment. there is more dry wert expected. they will use the aircraft and spotters to keep an eye out for the wildfires.

charles clifford in san francisco. we are getting a break from the heat. good morning to you. a relief for some, the temperatures will be sitting from the upper 60s in some locations all the way to the 80s. that's expected for the afternoon. now we're contending with 590s around the area -- 50s around the area t is socking us here in san francisco -- it is socking us in here in san francisco. and hayward at 59 and 61 linking up and 50s in half moon and 54 for those waking up in napa. and we have a story by 5:00 you can see that cloud cover hugging the coast line all the way stretching down to san mateo county. that cloud cover is more widespread filling in for the water locations, oakland, concord and livermore valley. as we head into the afternoon, the cloud cover will break

apart and it will burn off. the temperatures will be a little bit cooler compared to what we have been experiencing this summer. we are below the seasonal average. for the most part, 70s in the south bay with sunnyvale at 77. warmer through santa clara. 80s and out in 76 on tap for concord. 70 for castro valley. cool to mild around the bay area. we will see sunshine, 63 in downtown san francisco, 70 and as we check out the forecast. the 7-day forecast. tomorrow and friday will be the coolest. do not expect 80s around the bay. in the 60s. mid-60s for the coast and it looks like the temperatures will climb again as we transition into the weekend. over in the traffic center now looking, it is a quiet ride around the bay area.

documentary called the butch factor and is openly gay. police are investigating a home invasion robbery t was monday -- it was on monday night near lake merritt. three people, one with a gun, broke into the apartment. they beat a resident and robbed him. neighbors say they are concerned about the violence but they are not entirely surprised. >> i mean i don't know where they came from. from out of the city or came from some other neighborhood where this has been going on all along. and what is shock something that it is happening in the nicer neighborhoods. >> but it should be shocking anyway. >> the victim will recover from the attack. now to san mateo where a second case of west nile has been confirmed. and jeff bush confirms where it was found and what the county is doing. >> reporter: and agents were

out patroling the known waterways where the mosquitoes lay their eggs. the process consists of dipping this into the water to look for these, the mosquitoe eggs. most bitten by the are not affected but the ones who are can have serious health problems. one out of five can get ill, that's a flu-like illness but it can and has progressed to comas, bad diseases. >> reporter: that's why the county want -- county wanted to get a jump start and kill the mosquitoes carrying it. the latest case was discovered this month in this area and wood side drive t was a dead squirrel in someone's backyard. the lab results came back positive. >> we have had no mosquitoes or humans test positive for the virus in the county in the last several years. >> reporter: that's why they are taking it so seriously.

we're back. our top story is the latest developments out of colorado where a outpouring of love, in many forms; aurora, it is continuing here in the wake of friday's shooting during a showing of the dark knight rises. the governor of colorado announceed a group taking donations to help the victims has reached $2 million. they include the coproducers of the movie, warner brothers and as we report, that's just one example. >> reporter: the star of the movie christian bale made a personal appearance in aurora. he met with the victims at a hospital, according to a tv station. he visited the memorial near the theater. there are flowers, candles and stuffed animals and 12 crosses on a hill, one for each person who died.

and there is new life. baby hugo was born on tuesday. they his parents were caught in the attack. the father was shot in the face. he lost his right eye, has brain damage and in critical condition in a coma. the uncle went on camera. >> i guess he moved his hand to the baby trying to feel his son, touch him. his heart rate, there was a change in it. the best way to describe it is bittersweet, we're all looking forward to this, we're excited about this, it is a silver lining to a very dark cloud. >> as the memorial grows, there is a new development. the first lawsuit filed by one of those victims. he is suffering distress from the incident he is suing the theater. the company that produced the

lunchtime holding on to upper 50s along the coast line, it looks like everyone is surrounded by the water in the 60s and 70s. and overall the conditions. you can see by 3 p.m. the highs not dealing with the wide range and it is narrow and 60s and 70s and a few low 80s but that's it. only dealing with about a 20- degree spread. and the 7-day around the bay forecast shows several changes to talk about. today cooler than the average but we'll cool things off for the next couple of days. thursday and friday the warmest inland areas will not see the 80s. we'll see 60s for the bay locations, mid-60s along the coast line. fog and sunshine at least for the first half of the weekend. coupled with that temperatures will rise. we could see upper 80s for your warmest areas -- areas.

i'm talking by 10 degrees t looks like the summer weather is taking a vacation from the bay area. and you will not notice it yet. we're running average with downtown san francisco coming in. now a look at the headlines. we have fog to contend with. cooler conditions will persist. that is situated along the coast line and inland by 8:00. and spreading over the waters and affecting concord and spilling into the livermore valley. as we transition into the afternoon t will clear out. temperatures will be cooler compared to what we have been used to t is continuing with 77

expected in sunnyvale and barely seeing any 80s whatsoever. the 80s that we see in the warmest areas will keep it on the lower end with fairfield at 81 and 82 expected in pittsburgh only reaching 77 out a72 in union city. overall pretty mild and cool. good news we will see that sunshine. plenty of 70s and the north bay and san francisco and 69 expected in san bruno. and yes that pattern of morning fog and sunshine will continue with the temperatures even cooler tomorrow and friday. it looks like saturday we'll see the temperatures spike again we're in the 80s for the warmest areas around the bay and the 60s. and by sunday and starting the i next week overall nice conditions. pleasant and it looks like we could see 90s again by tuesday.

we'll monitor your forecast right here on kron 4 but in the traffic center i wanted to do a check to show you no major delays across the area. here is the approach to the toll plaza, traffic is moving well from all three approaches. no metering lights. i have been checking the sensors. we're seeing up the incline and the upper deck. no problems to contend with her at the bridge. no backup at the toll plaza. no problem getting down the nimitz freeway. and 101, traffic is moving smoothly. and if you are coming out of marin county. here you will see all is well on the nimitz and 580 as well. as we go to the south bay freeways, 1 01 up well with out of the coyote valley. no problems for interstate 280 and it looks like northbound 85 is smooth and easy with no

incidents to report. if you are taking public transit. you are good to go. bart and cal trans this morning. and a quick update on housing here in the bay. and the report shows that the home values are continuing to head upwards. that's good news. according to the web site nearly all bay area counties showed positive growth during the second quarter. home values went up 4% over the previous quarter. the east bay's county grew by 3% and in the north baima rin rose 2%. and we spoke with agents in san jose about what it means for buyers and sellers. >> reporter: to give you an idea how hot real estate is now, this three bedroom house in the willow glen neighborhood listed for $750,000 sold four days after it went on the market. >> on thursday. and on saturday and sunday we had many offers immediately.
