>>reporter:residents of a san bruno neighborhood who survived a 2010 gas line explosion are expressing jitters over another gas leak thursday morning in the same area. more than a dozen homes were evacuated because of the leak which happened after a contractor working for the city of san bruno accidentally hit the gas pipe using a backhoe. the leak happened at the

intersection of earl avenue and glenview drive, the same intersection where a huge gas pipeline exploded on september 9, 2010. that blast killed eight people and left more than 50 homes damaged or destroyed. kron 4's terisa estacio reports the thursday leak brought back memories of the disaster for many people in the area some of whom have rebuilt their homes. it took about a half an hour to turn the gas off on thursday morning. when i spoke to residents said they did not want to get on camera. there were just too emotional. i was able to speak to one person however that is coming up at 6:00 p.m.. >>pam: people on the edge it has been nearly two years since that deadly gas line explosion. and at that time they make some amazing transformations. >> this is google earth from september 20th 091 year

before the explosion. moving forward in time to keep in mind that this gas line explosion was right here on this corner. the next was december 2010, this huge crater and the charred remains of the 38 homes that were destroyed slashed damaged by the fire. also trees are burned. l 8 once ford may, 2011. the neighborhood has gone underneath a major cleanup with the rubble removed and new grass sprouted up. just the faint outline of homes. also blue tarps of homes being renovated. the side of the explosion has a huge line of sandbags and the tarps. june, 2011 you can see construction has begun on the two new homes on the northern edge of the burn zone. renovations on several other damaged homes. the last irreal was october

the numbers. and homicides are increasing 28 last year 41 this year that is an increase year to date of 46%. and shootings, have dropped. only slightly. about 2 percent compared to last year. the robberies have also dropped slightly slightly but burglaries are up by 17%. the san francisco police the focus is on bringing in the murders and shootings. >> gun violence although there has been a lot of shootings there has been more fatalities. it is not a situation that we can just work in one moment. there is nobody taking any time off until we get a handle on does. >>reporter: the bulk of these neighborhoods has been and this visitation valley, and since saturday, there has been another fort gang- related robberies and. this

massacre suspect was seeing a psychiatrist. chief reportedly tried to convey the worries to her colleagues at the university of colorado. they were contacted. nobody called police. it is a painful tragedy leaving 12 people dead could something could have been done or said to have been prevented? he was seeing this woman. dr. fenton is a specialist and schizophrenia and threat assessment. this says that on june 7th from kmgh this was a failure from an oral exam. he also went out and purchased an assault rifle and spoke to his psychiatrist. >> we do not know what those discussions were but

it was a very high stress area for him. something he said to his psychiatrist caused her to contact the university of colorado threat assessment teams. >> catherine: fenton was also a member of that team and she helped to put it together. she was concerned and contacted several colleagues on the team. >> but they decided after a day or so not to convened. the reason was three days after he purchased that rifle on june 10th he dropped out of school. and we are told that they had no jurisdiction. so there was nothing that they could do. >> catherine: the bottom line is that nobody called the aurora police. what could have been the red flag was not acted upon. this school has refuted to comment. still no comment

the gas line happened right over in the middle of the street this construction crew was putting and a water main when they hit a gas line. take a look. this is the two-inch pipe that was ruptured. that huge coach in the pike. pg&e responded, quickly. that huge -- fgouge... although this situation was quickly dealt with. because that rupture was so close to ground zero. when it erupted in a fireball in 2010 that this was a very unnerving situation. >> it was a bit eerie. to know that it was exactly the same spot for the last explosion took place. you start thinking that there has the line is it dead. but until you know hall long that has been hit you are hoping that it is not the
