evacuated from clear lake. they say driving away from their home was a very scary experience. >> first the fire marshal came, then fish and game, and then another one and they said you need to leave and you need to leave now. they say you are running out of time and we just drop everything and left. the fire is coming up the hill, it is growing taller. if you could see pretty much what look like flames. >> it was like a war zone driving through. houses were on fire and it was like a firework, you like it and it just went everywhere. gaurd

>> justine: 3 people are dead including a police officer after a man opened fire near the campus of the university. >> reporter: in a residential area just a few blocks from texas university police say a man started shooting at a law- enforcement officer that was serving an eviction notice. >> we received a shot fired

call from the citizen. we responded very quickly. upon the officers' response is when they began to take on fire from the suspect. >> reporter: the shooter was identified as a 35 year-old thomas kaful was killed with two others. >> bryant was very close with everyone in this community he was a killer. it is sad and tragic that we have lost him. >> reporter: another officer and a 55 your warmer were also shot, two other officers suffered to non- life threatening injuries. this sparked a warning for students and faculty to avoid the area where there were reports of an active shooter. officers mourning the loss of their colleagues have secured the area and they are investigating the incident. >> justine: will ticket quebec on the kron4 morning

>> erica: good morning dusty and i did not think we will see triple digits but some location will keep it in the upper 90s. it looks like we see some cloud coverage may be some fog over downtown san francisco. you probably need to use your wipers. expect temperatures to sit in the low 50s. so, it declined they be city of the 52 degrees, 54 in downtown san francisco but check this out still holding on to low 80s here. our future forecast showed about lunch time we have 60s along coastline. we have '70s throughout the bay and 80s and 90s for your warmest inland areas. by 3:00 p.m. in the cycle could see some 90's in the south bay and the in an east bay valleys. for the most part i think the triple digits will stay at of the area. now breaking down the numbers neighborhood by neighborhood, i see '70s, '80s and even some 90's.

>> justine: there was a sell-off ahead the shell oil refinery yesterday's emergency crews were quick to get this under control. >> reporter: the fire was quickly extinguished only lasting for about a few minutes, but there were several flare ups. this is the fuel and the fumes that were being burned off. the refinery said this is normal. the unit was immediately evacuated around 2:00 p.m.. no one was injured. there are about 90 workers here at the refinery that are trained as volunteer firefighters. they quickly put out the fires

pouring water on it the try to cool it down. there was a health advisory issued for parts of martinez but that was quickly lifted. the spokesperson says there was a lot to figure out as forrest what damage had been done. >> it is too early to say the impact of this on our refineries we will access the damage and correct this as quickly as we can. we will also investigate the cause of the fires. >> reporter: unlike chevron this did not to the community alert system this was only a level 2. to get the community alert going it had to be a level 3. this fire was so quickly knocked down that it was taken down to a level one. >> justine: it has been one week since the massive fire broke that at chevron in

richmond. this thick black smoke sent thousands of people to area hospitals. investigators were kept out of the area where the fire started because of continued safety concerns. as dan kerman tell us that could change by the end of this week. >> reporter: after a fire broke that at the richmond refinery investigators have not been able to get into the area to collect physical evidence. >> there is danger from structural elements, scalping could collapse. we have to be very careful with those things. >> reporter: chevron is now running steam through the pipes in that area to clear out any remaining liquids. the remaining work should be complete in days. >> i think we can get in there within a couple of days. >> reporter: 1 site will gather evidence and collect

19 year-old man now face strong driving charges and speeding charges after they crashed into two homes in saratoga. both of them had minor injuries. rob fladeboe shows the damage and explains what happened next. >> reporter: this was the unbelievable scene in saratoga early monday were two cars, a bmw and a toyota slammed into a pair of homes and severely damaging both. >> and our traffic investigators are saying that the speeds were in excess of 50 mi. per hour when it crashes to the home. >> reporter: a bottle of whiskey was found in one car, both were suspected of driving under the influence and may have been racing. this caused a rude awakening for neighbors. >> it was shocking and horrifying, it is amazing that these boys survived and

is raising a red flag with airport security experts. the port authority police say that the 31 euro was justine with friends friday in jamaica bay when his jet ski broke down. authorities believe that he swam towards jfk airport and when he got on shore, he jumped over the barbwire fence and then walked across at least one warm--1 runway near terminal three. no one saw him or stop him until a delta employees saw him and stopped him and called security. >> we need to see if there are possible threats that can come in and attack a center. >> reporter: the young man was charged with criminal trespassing. now the port authority said that is increasing its around-the- clock presence to secure the protruding from the

[music] >> darya: good morning, hundreds of people are waking up in their own homes again after the evacuation of a wildfire that was burning forced them out over the weekend that is our top story this tuesday morning of august 14th. the wye fire in lake county has grown to 6,000 a.. the conceit the intense flames. they're having a hard time to keep this fire from spreading. it is about 20 percent

contained. the positive development is that the wild fires are moving away from the spring valley area where 480 homes had to evacuate. those residents are being allowed back into their homes. part of highway 23 east of clear lake oakes has been closed. earlier yesterday the entire high will shut down because the smoke was so heavy. utility crews from pg&e are in the area working to fix in the house or disruptions. >> darya: pal fire says that although residents were allowed to go back to their homes, the fire did come dangerously close. >> many residents will return to blackens smoke all around the homes are still standing. we had three structures that were destroyed in we are trying to determine exactly what they work. there were hundreds of homes in the path of this fire, so we did a good job of keeping the

from our kron4 viewers. this has been really tough for the firefighters. let us find out if there will be any break in the weather ear cut is watching the conditions. >> erica: as we take a look at what is happening currently, it is about 80 degrees at clear lake and the wild fire is burning with humidity levels at about 10%. we have seen an increase in the wind speed. later this afternoon temperatures will be about 105 degrees so if firefighters want to get a handle on this, they have to do it now. >> george: we are tracking the house by this morning on highway 24 in the westbound direction. we just caught a world that a truck trailer has overturned on
