>> will: east bay officials are fogging sections after a mosquito tested positive for the west now virus. >> reporter: officials with the contra costa control department got the results from a dead bird earlier this month those birds tested positive for the west nile virus. they contracted the illness from mosquitos. they will be fogging throughout the night on wednesday at ground level. in years past the the

district has used helicopters to drop the insecticide but this ground fogging give them the ability to target the insects with more precision. they say the chemicals used to kill the mosquitos is not harmful to humans. >> reporter: the main thing is to kill as many of those skills as possible in order to keep the disease from spreading. west nile virus is harmful to me of those that contract the virus but there are some that come down with severe symptoms and they are sick for several days. the very young, the very old and those with compromised immune systems are the most vulnerable. >> will: west nile is not just a problem in california the mayor has also declared a state of emergency. 10 people have died so far from the west nile virus. >> will: the city will conduct the first spraying

>> will: here is a caltrain worker out taking pictures these west l.a. had to be shut down. caltrans crews had to temporarily shut down or repair the structure to make it safer drivers to pass underneath. a big rig hit the over crossing about a 30 a.m. while carrying a piece of construction equipment. the riverside pedestrian bridge will

remain shut down until a permanent fix can be made. maureen kelly shows us the damage. >> reporter: here you can see the big gap that is left in this over crossing that measures approximately 6 ft. across and it is cracked 4 ft.. it was so badly damaged that he still read our was exposed and the impact that these long gouges. over here on this side of the road, you can see the piles of concrete that came raining down. some of these pieces like this one are really big but luckily no one was injured and no other cars were damaged. this is the big rig. over here you can see the excavator that it was calling. the chp said the driver did not secure the load properly and some how the arm of the excavator extended into the ear. the bucket is what smacked the bridge because it exceeded the 14 ft. maximum height. the truck was going 40 to 50 mi. per hour when the accident happened in the impact partially crushed the
