were ordered to evacuate and residents boarded up windows. it is projected to make land as a category one. it is the anniversary of katrina. they failed after the levy ee lev -- levees -- but they have seen billions of repair. >> we are preparing for the worst. >> we are not

expecting a katrina event. it category one/two can bring a lot of damage in terms of water. >> a man was critically injured in an attack with a baseball bat. he was walking and approached by a group of people. one suspected hit him in the head. he was taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries. >> man was also shot by multiple gun men and was taken to the hospital where he did. also in san francisco, we are

learning more about a cell phone that was tracked and led to the arrest of five people, suspects tide to a cell phone theft ring. a woman was robbed by gunpoint and it was then tracked and an officer started chasing them and one escaped and the phone was traced again where officer found a man in the trunk of car. and they found multiple cell phones in that vehicle. >> these devices being stolen are of

epidemic proporz in preportion. >> the schools in the area were put on lock down. and they found things from a robbery that took place earlier in the day. and two men in jail suspected of robbing a wells fargo. sick-- six schools -- were put on lock down and they tracked down the second suspect on highway 8-80. a vigil was held

in san jose for the recent violence. john quiver talked with the police chief about what has been done. >>reporter: they say the result in violent crime is due to an increase in gang activity. they shifted dozens of officers to patrol and gathered up hundreds of dollars in overtime to get officers on the streets. the effort is seeming to work.

deliver into the late hours. 50s and 60s when you step out the door. into the afternoon, we will take all these numbers and see 70s-80s. san jose could reach 80 and 90 in some areas. turn our attention to the east bay shore line, mid-70s. and 63 at ocean beach. temperatures could slide a little as we head into torm. -- tomorrow -- you will see low 70s around the bay and 60s for

the coast. the marine layers will deepen, and past that a cooling trend. and we will see more in the way of cloud cover so mild conditions. and temperatures a little below the seasonal average. you will see problem-free conditions getting out the door and traffic is moving well from all three approaches. over at the san mateo bridge traffic is moving well. the goldenbridgeis flowing well. as we turn our

attention to interstate 580, no instances of slowing. for those coming out of tracey to the 5-80 interchange, everything is cool. a letter was sent to us by a man being accused of murder. he is saying he is not a cereal rrsearial killer. >>reporter: accused killer joseph naso, says the case is made up. the murders took place in the '70s and

in the '90s. he takes offense in the place of searial and saying there is a gap. in his letter, no called about the district attorney for suspecting he killed woman with similar initials. not so fast we said. he is not a killer he says. he took photos of many women with double initials. and only thing i have done in secession is produce fine

justina. it is out of the florida area. i do want to take a closer look at the tropical storm isaac. forecasters do predict it will strengthen. it is aiming closer to closer to new orleans and we do have airports shut down. and you can see it heading straight up. the florida panhandle and the albecameyabama coast. and 6 feet to 12 feet high surges. and this hurricane is already 400 miles wide and it is 125

miles offshore of the mississippi river. >> no flights coming into the new orleans area and the airport is not a shelter and people will not be allowed to stay in the terminal. we will let you know when it opens again. today, republicans are gathering for the full day of the convention after the tropical storm forced it to delay. and renee marsh is live. >>reporter: tuesday night, ann romney will be up in front of the crowd. those who are not

we will see sunshine into the afternoon, albeit temperatures will be slightly cooler compared to what we'll see in the work week. it looks like the fog is really just contained to the coastline. we are seeing good conditions and good visibility pretty much everyone else. 50s, 60s, even some 70s out there right now. 73 degrees right now antioch. half moon bay coming in at 46 degrees. by lunchtime, 60s, 70s, even a couple of low 80s, for those situated in the livermore valley, and then looks like those temperatures will start to fill in. we'll see more in the form of 80s. could squeeze out 90s for

antioch, 77 in union city, and overall, it's going to be a gorgeous day in the north bay. 66 in daly city. your seven-day forecast shows we do have a little bit of a cool down as we head into wednesday and thursday, and temperatures will continue to slide as we head into the weekend. on to traffic now. good morning, george. >> good morning, erica. not a bad drive around the bay. let's start a bridge check here. no metering lights, and no delays for the westbound trip. for the san mateo bridge, it's a good trip as actual. the volume a little more than usual at this early hour, but no delays. for the golden gate bridge ride, still an easy commute here. here is your ride on interstate

80 westbound. still to no increase in the drive time. highway 4 getting a little heavier through antioch, and 580 heavier now through the altamonte pass. and an accident here at lincoln in maroin, but it is on the shoulders. the drive time still 23 to 25 minutes. >> thanks a lot, george. the state assembly is trying to give california bicyclists a little space, approving a new bill that would allow drivers to -- would require drivers to stay three feet away from cyclists. fines of at least $35 for drivers who violate that buffer
