>>pam: the chp officer that was shot on tuesday on highway 680 remains in critical condition this evening. the officer is still at john muir medical center. dan kerman is joining us live from walnut creek with details on what we now know about this shooting. >>dan: we know the identity of the suspect but we do not know his motive. here is a video to show you who the suspect is. the suspect was shot and killed by the other police officers. his name is christopher lasik. he was the one driving the jeep wrangler and a second officer, not the one who was shot, pulled over. we are finding out that he

pulled over because he could not read the license plate. the officer who was shot was the first to approach the vehicle. >> officer youngster approach to the jeep of the driver's side and made contact. looking at the-camera video, it shows that the officer and a lacy had a short conversation. then, without any warning, lacey pulled out a gun and shot the officer in the head. his partner was approaching from the rear heard the gunshots and saw his partner goes danforth, he drew his own service weapon and shot at the deep strikingly secretly. at this point, as far as a motive, where he shot the officer, that is something we're still working on. >> inside the key dates out a semi-automatic handgun, gun clips and other ammunition as well as a knife.
