disputes. a lockout eight years ago wiped out the entire 2004 - 05 season. today's agreement is for ten years. but either side can opt out after eight. it still has to be ratified by the players and by n-h-l owners. but officials say games could begin as soon as january 19th. >> mill whermillbrae police-are taking this girl is from south san francisco appears to be in stable condition after being shot in the stomach for the tie. millbrae police this morning are investigating a shooting that sent a 16-year-old girl

to the hospital. it happened around 10-30 last night in the normally- quiet residential area of park boulevard and santa theresa way. that's near cappucino high school. police say the girl is from south san francisco. she appears to be in stable condition, despite having been shot in the stomach andso far, no suspects have >> in petaluma, donations have been pouring in from the community in memory of a teenager who was found dead friday in south lake tahoe. 19 year old alyssa byrne's was attending a new year's eve music festival when she disappeared. police say she may have become disoriented as she walked back to her hotel in the dark in below freezing temperatures. witnesses tell police that she had been intoxicated. but it is still unclear how she died. kron 4's alecia reid went to a petaluma sports bar that was gathering donations in byrne's memory. >> it is terrible, it is awful, this girl was just starting her own life.

>> we're just honored to be involved in it to help in any way we can to offset the grief they're going through. >> it's affected everybody, those that know her and those that didn't know her. your heart can't help but melt when you look at her mother. a lot of people that walked into 'beyond the glory' to leave a donation did not know alyssa, but they rolled in one after the other >> it's a tragedy. it's aweful. it's a terrible loss to her family and friends. >> my best friend's daughter who i'm very close to was close to her and she was the last person that saw her. abigail balf is also a friend. the two went to daycare, kindergarten and elementary school together. they were about six years old in this photothat's alyssa on the far right. abigail was up in south lake tahoe when the body was found. >> the house that i was staying was only a few miles from the site, so it was really heart breaking and i cant even put into words what i felt when i heard. >> reporter: the nineteen year old was quite popular, and well rounded since she was a young girl. >> alyssa played basketball for my husband when he coached girl's basketball in elementary school. it's just tragic. >> we lost a beautiful young kid that was just starting

quarter of people think it's possible for someone to be overweight and healthy. researchers say americans are aware of obesity risks such as heart disease and diabetes. however, they found not everyone is aware of obesity's link to cancer, arthritis, sleep apnea and infertility. researchers say heart disease remains the nation's leading killer and diabetes and obesity rates continue to climb. >> the small town of steubenville, ohio is at the center of a shocking rape investigation. two players of the town's high school football team are accused of repeatedly raping a girl back in august. images that reference the alleged rape have been popping up online. one of them shows two teenagers carrying an apparently intoxicated girl by her arms and legs. an attorney for one of the defendants says the images have been taken out of context. "although pictures can be misleading, and in this case, out of context, it does not suggest the activity prior to the photo being taken or after the photo was taken. and obviously it's just a still, so there's no audio.

will take a look towards the afternoon hardhack marty? >> thank-you, janu. several new medical marijuana facilities approved in oakland will not be opening on time. the reluctance of landlords to rent out their space is being blamed for the delay. it's been a year since oakland officials gave approval for four new dispensaries. so far.only one has opened. city leaders and marijuana advocates say federal prosecutors seizure of one dispensary last year has made landlords less willing to rent to medical marijuana facilities. federal investigators say they are closing in on what may have caused a massive explosion and fire at the chevron refinery in richmond last august. a ruptured pipeline exploded sending black smoke and gas

refinery in richmond last august. a ruptured pipeline exploded. sending gas and smoke into the air. there were no serious injuries at the refinery. but thousands of people exposed to the toxic air went to hospital with medical problems. others sought lawsuits. kron four's philippe djegal tells us what investigators federal investigators say chevron fire fighters responding to a small leak and fire before the big explosion. may have accidently punched a hole in the 40-year-old in august. u-s chemical safety board investigators say they are examining the tools chevron fire fighters used to stop an intial small refinery leak and fire in richmond last august sixth investigators say the 40- year-old pipe that eventually sent a plume of gas and fire into the air was already in bad shape. over time, sulfur from the crude oil flowing through the pipe wore it down. but, the chemical safety board says it's found a gash on the pipe. that investigators say must have been done from the

outside. investigators are looking into the possibility that while chevron fire fighters were responding to a smallerthey may have accidently damaged the pipe. while ripping and tearing away at insulation. investigators say the bigger puncture -- but that the damage could have played athe august eruption at the refinery blanketed neighborhoods with thick black smoke. area hosiptals. with several medical problems. by the august fire is stillphilippe djegal, kron four news. free parking at meters in may have caused a massive into the air. vallejo police are offering a ten-thousand-dollar reward in connection with a christmas eve hit and run that left a man fighting for his life. the 54 year old man was crossing broadway street at hogan avenue when he was hitthe driver fled the scene. police at the time said the driver may have been street racing. the car is described as a black two door civic. it may have some damage like a damaged hood. and possibly a

will be going from noon-6:00 p.m. they will issue warnings today and the next couple of weekends. the first actual tickets will begin january 27th and they are able to be paid for the about of a four hours. >> some dyou should not have to pay sunday. >> is it frustrating? >> yes. everything is expensive and now you have to pay on a parking when you've never had to pay. it is frustrating >> reporter: the city's explanation is based on a cliche that times have changed. decades ago most businesses were closed on sunday and was not a big demand for parking. but that has changed. shops have

opened on sunday this could alleviate that issue. marty, we will have to wait and see. >> marty, what is the fee on the meter per hour? >> each is different and some are cheaper, more expensive. and what ever they charge on a saturday is the same rate on sunday. >> it just depends on where you are in san francisco. public health officials say an outbreak of norovirus in a north bay senior center is starting to wain. but it took its toll. dozens of residents and staff have been sickened. and two elderly patients died. kron-4's jeff pierce has more from mill valley. >> reporter: the redwoods senior residential care facility in mill valley suffered an outbreak of the contagious norovirus that sent six residents to the hospital and contributed to the deaths of two others. with as many as fifty nine other residents sickened

with the virus since december 24th the facility has curtailed activities and restricted food services. >> people don't eat in the dining room at all. food is brought to their rooms. >> all activities are cancelled. >> reporter: residents at the redwoods who enjoyed days filled with activities are now virtually quarentined. >> almost hourly during the day interesting group discussions or physical activity so there was much happening there and now there's nothing happening. >> reporter: while that sense of isolation has been troubling it may have held the outbreak in check. >> we didn't eat in the dining room we'd eat in our own apartments and so therefore we had less chance of getting the virus. >> reporter: norovirus is a gastrointestinal disease that causes nausea, vomitting, stomach cramps and other flu like symptoms that can result in dangerous dehydration for elderly patients who may already have additional health issues. >> it's just a little scary because the symptoms of the virus are not pleasant, but

i've been so far fortunate. >> reporter: but eighty nine year old gordan anderson remains philosophical. >> as long as i can go to starbucks i'm all right. >> reporter: in mill valley jeff pierce kron four news. >> tickets for the annual burning man festival will soon go on sale. but some longtime participants complain the new prices are too steep. 51-thousand individual tickets will be available for 380 dollars each. tickets opened at 240 dollars last year, with prices steadily rising as the event approached. organizers scrapped last year's lottery system and now are offering tickets on a first-come, first-served basis. the festival is held the week leading up to labor day in the nevada desert. >> national news this morning. a fatal hostage standoff in aurora, colorado. thats the same city where a gunman opened fire at a movie theater, killing 12 people.

police arrived on scene to find a gunman who barricaded himself inside his home. there was gunfire after negotiations with the man failed. then police to stormed the building. the suspect was killed as the swat team entered the house. police then discovered the bodies of three other people inside the home. the standoff comes nearly six months after a shooting at a movie theater only four miles away left twelve people dead. the seattle police department is now facing an excessive force lawsuit over the arrest of an 18-year- old man. it was all caught on camera. we warn you, it may be tough to watch. back on december 29th 2010, seattle police discovered a suspicious vehicle. it was locked with its engine running outside a department store. a man came outside to claim the car but officers were concerned when they found out he was not the owner of the vehicle. they tried to detain the man, he began resisting arrest and even bit an officer. that's when the situation escalated. the entire incident is now being investigated and

could take several months to complete. after 40 years of struggle, a group of people known as the wilmington 10 have finally gotten their names cleared. the nine black men and one white woman were convicted back in 1972 of the firebombing of a wilmington, north carolina, grocery store during days of race rioting. on saturday, the six surviving members of the group were formally given their certificates of pardon from the governor's office. supporters claim the 10 were the victims of racially-motivated prosecutors. their convictions were overturned in 1980. but it wasn't until this week that they were pardoned. >> still ahead, brazil prison inmates using a cast >> still, overcast and dark we will be back..

victims of the drone strike have not yet been identified. however, two pakistani taliban commanders are reportedly among them. american missiles are also suspected of killing a militant commander on thursday whose followers focus on attacks against u.s. and nato forces. it's a real life story of a cat burglar. take a look. police in brazil caught this cat trying to help inmates bust out of jail, by smuggling in tools. officers found the cat outside the jail with saws and drills attached to its body. they belive one or a few of the inmates, along with help from the outside, trained the cat to deliver mobile phones and other tools they needed to dig a tunnel out of the jail. right now, all 263 people in the jailhouse are considered suspects. >> a year new job training

morning are investigating a shooting that sent a 16- year-old girl to the hospital. it happened around 10-30 last night in the normally- quiet residential area of theresa way. that's near cappucino high school. police say the girl is from south san francisco. condition, despite having been shot in the stomach and thigh. so far, no suspects have been arrested. >> in petaluma, donations have been pouring in from the community in memory of a teenager who was found dead friday in south lake tahoe. 19 year old alyssa byrne's was attending a new year's eve music festival when she disappeared. police say she may have become disoriented as she walked back to her hotel in the dark in below freezing temperatures. witnesses tell police that she had been intoxicated. but it is still unclear how she died. kron 4's alecia reid went to a petaluma sports bar that was gathering donations in byrne's memory. grief they're going through. as they came through. there went straight to the donation box. >> this girl was just starting her beautiful life. >> and honor they will give

federal investigators say chevron fire fighters responding to a small leak and fire before the big explosion. may have accidently punched a hole in the 40-year-old pipe that eventually failed in august. u-s chemical safety board investigators say they are examining the tools chevron fire fighters used to stop an intial small refinery leak and fire in richmond last august sixth investigators say the 40- year-old pipe that eventually sent a plume of gas and fire into the air was already in bad shape. over time, sulfur from the crude oil flowing through the pipe wore it down. but, the chemical safety board says it's found a gashthat investigators say must have been done from the outside. investigators are looking while chevron fire fighters were responding to a smaller leak and fire. they may have accidently while ripping and tearing away at insulation. investigators say the bigger explosion may have still happened regardless of the puncture -- but that the role. the august eruption at the crude oil unit of the refinery blanketed neighborhoods with thick black smoke. thousands of people went to area hosiptals. with several medical complaints. including breathing problems. by the august fire is still shut down. but chevron says it hopes to have it back open sometime news. hundred-13 days. businesses

dark knight rises" in july. prosecutors are expected to call scores of witnesses before arapa-ho county district judge william sylvester. sylvester will determine whether there's sufficient evidence for holmes to stand trial on more than one- hundred and 50 charges including murder. his attorneys are expected to present a diminished mental capacity defense. the seattle police department is now facing an excessive force lawsuit over the arrest of an 18- year-old man. it was all caught on camera. we warn you, it may be tough to watch. back on december 29th 2010, seattle police discovered a suspicious vehicle. it was locked with its engine running outside a department store. a man came outside to claim the car but officers were concerned when they found out he was not the owner of the vehicle. they tried to detain the man, he began resisting arrest and even bit an officer. that's when the situation escalated. the entire incident is now being investigated and could take several months to complete.

world leaders are skeptical about syria's president's new plan for peace. in his first speech since june, ba-shar aah-sahd calls for a national reconciliation conference and a new constitution. but, aah-sahd says the plan will work only if western countries stop funding groups who are fighting to overthrow him. today's announcement comes amid continued heavy fighting between government forces and rebels. world leaders have responded negatively to the announcement. the british foreign secretary calls it hypocritical. >> pakistani officials say american drones fired missiles into taliban

this was the scene all around marin countyrain water flowing down the gutters and gray, foggy conditions. drivers had to contend with the downpour that covered the streets. windshield wipers were in constant use for most of saturday evening. the rain did cause some flooding in marin county.
