today marks the one-year anniversary of florida teen, trayvon martin's death. police say trayvon was shot to death by george zimmerman. the former neighborhood watch leader claims he shot martin in self defense. and as victor blackwell reports.it's shined a spotlight on florida's controversial stand your ground law. on the anniversary of the killing of unarmed florida teen trayvon martin that sparked protests and rallies across the country - >> reporter: there is now a renewed fight over the controversial stand make his killer, george zimmerman - a free man - once again. >> "can you start a fight, lose the fight and then claim stand your ground?" >> reporter: michael skolnik, of the trayvon martin foundation believes stand your ground laws are ineffective and should be repealed. >> "it promotes vigilantism. it promotes the idea that you go out there and you take care of the situation and don't listen to police - don't listen to law enforcement." >> reporter: late last week, a task force commissioned by florida governor rick scott at the height of the public outcry returned its final

lost, with two police officers, and one suspect. this is north of water street. some shots rang out and a pew moments later, a lot more gunfire. we do know that there is a need tremendous manhunt going for more suspects. they are going door-to-door. one official said that that she saw snipers on top of the whole foods store. they have created a perimeter. with several different swat teams go into this neighborhood. also, there have been to officers lost the to--osca the two officers oe santa cruz police force have been lost. this is still a

fluid situation and one i've walked a couple of blocks away there was a police officer stationed on virtually every corner. on north branch 40 based on the comings and goings of the squad cars. these swat team members still an active search. >> pam: let me update. on the transfer of children. there are three schools on the lockdown. >> reporter: my understanding is that there are going to be bo buses to the county government 701 ocean st. on the corner of ocean/waters. that is where the parents will be directed to go and about 45 minutes.

difficult to get a feeling cut based on the number of people thousands of gathered on the corner. mainly out of curiosity i have spoken to a few people. they have told stories of other people that have fled the area. and other media outlets basically the shelter is in place. brigham rob, rob fladeboe, thank you. now, with three hours into this manhunt with confirmation in the last 20- 30 minutes that there have been two officers killed. there is also one suspect killed. these residences are still on lockdown. this complicated area to do a manhunt. the sun is setting

certainly making it more difficult let us check in with grant lodes... >> it is a difficult area. he is mentioning that it is near washington/ocean street. the search is focused on these two areas. there's a montessori school. and there is an alternative school, a middle school and rob fladeboe saying that these students should be taken down water street at ocean street. where there is that county building. the parent to be able to collect
