kron four's jeff bush talked scene that was caught in the line of fire. >> firefighters from station one were the first ones on the scene. two police officers had been killed and the gunman was still on the loose. jerry freeman when the bad guy came back from the call he came back to where we were. we saw him comeing and tried to alert the cops. time. bullets were coming in same man who had murdered two police officers moments earlier. batt. chief mike venezio santa cruz fire department this is one of four shots that hit our ladder truck. freeman didn't actually see him shourd very close range. clayton ogden santa cruz fire department our captain was telling us to turn and run. we took off running. a woman named patricia was with the firefighters at that time. she tried to run but fell. patricia was the witness. was when we went to run, she fell and couldn't get up.
