jackie? >> good morning, anny. we will see how everything will work out with no stopping! there are no toll takers. i can tell you are around 20- 30 minutes ago and i saw one cargo through. the car did stop. and locked. they have been putting up electronic signs and black tape/paper over the glass sections of the toll collection booths. if you have not signed up? do not worry, they will already have your license plate number and send you

something in the mail. you could see some backups with that is part of the issue today. we are going to be out here all morning long. >> the big test could be this weekend with out-of- towners. thanks, jackie. as you can imagine. it was a very tough day for some of the bridge toll workers. some had started at the district more than twenty years ago. so saying good bye was difficult. there were a lot of hugs and a lot of tears as the workers wrapped up their shifts for the last time. a few toll takers reflected on their jobs and how workers were like a family. >> reporter: is this difficulty? >> id is for all of us. when i was going through the worst times of my life i

>> the supreme court is hearing the second of back- to-back gay marriage cases today. yesterday the court heard hearings on california's proposition eight. a section of the defense of marriage act will be taken to the country's highest court. it's a constitutional challenge to the law that prevents legally married gay couples from collecting federal benefits, generally available to straight married couples. "doma" says marriage may only be a relationship between a man and a woman for purposes of federal law, regardless of state laws that allow same-sex marriage. the hearing is set to begin at 7:15 our time. we are going to be following the second day of hearings in washington all morning long here on the kron four morning news. we will be speaking to political analyst michael yaki at 7:30 and at 8:30 this morning. legal expert jim hammer will also be here at 8:15 to speak about the defense of marriage act hearings today. in addition to our guests, we will be providing updates on our website, kron-four-dot-com, our 27- seven news channel comcast

back. soon.an empty lot in san francisco will house the tallest building on the west coast. this is a rendering of what it'll look like.a 60 story office building at mason and first streets. it's expected to be the 7th tallest building in the country at one-thousand- seventy feet and 1-point-4 the transbay transit tower will be designed next to the transbay transit center - that is also being constructed. the project was approved back in october. construction is expected to start as soon as this summer, and wrap up by 2016.

more trouble for the new span of the bay bridge. this time at least 30 of the giant bolts that hold together the new bay bridge have snapped. caltrans is considering replacing all 288 of the bolts on the new bridge. engineers believe that the problem is with the bolts themselves and not with the while they don't have a timeline on fixingow how much replacing the bolts will cost, caltrans insists the plans to open it the day after labor day are still on track. summer, and wrap up by 2016. the city of sacramento is not giving up on the kings. led by mayor kevin johnson, the city council voted 7-2 in favor of a plan to build a new 18-thousand seat arena in downtown sacramento. the deal contributes 258 million dollars to the 447 million dollar project. the city plans to use money earned from leasing parking garages for events at the arena to help pay the public that was justice anthony kennedy who spoke

>> the supreme court has begun hearing arguments in the first of two appeals to state and federal laws restricting same-sex marriage. tuesday, the court tackled an appeal of california's ban on same-sex marriage, known as proposition 8. during the proceedings, justice anthony kennedy - who's considered the possible swing vote - discussed arguments from both sides. take a listen.

>> reporter: this this first street with the fire crews in the last 10 minutes just got this fire under control. it was quickly a for alarm fire engulfing this single story home. it's stretched just across other structures. and the buildings on the right let me show you some video of it broke out just before 1:00 p.m. they heard a large explosion what sounded like gunshots. the cruise began battling these flames everybody is okay. but there is one lady that is upset because her cats are inside. two dozen people are displaced spoke with one of them.

plans for work on its transmission system. a san francisco night club is closing for good. after three people were shot over the weekend. it happened at the three- 30 ritch nightclub, in the city's south of market neighborhood. officials revoked the club's permit on monday. the nightclub has had trouble in the past, and neighbors have been fighting to shut it down. police say, saturday's initial shooting happened inside the club, after an argument. and more shots were later fired in a nearby parking lot. all three victims are expected to be okay. police say no arrests have been made. a five thousand dollar reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of a man who is accused of molesting and trying to kidnap a nine - year old girl in oakland. this is surveillance video showing images of the suspect walking on the sidewalk.

it happened on the 12- hundred block of 94th avenue. monday evening. police say, the man picked the girl up in a bear hug, touched her inappropiately and tried to carry her away. the girl was able to get away. the attacker is described as a latino male in his 20's, with ears that stick out prominently he has short black hair, spiked in the front and long in the back. five- feet- eight inches tall. and 170 pounds. the suspect description also matches that of the getaway driver. in a similar daylight attack on a 14 year old girl last november. also in oakland. in that incident, the victim was able to escape unharmed. >> an 8 year old girl who was shot by an arrow outside a u-c berkeley science center is recovering this morning. but a suspect is still on the loose. doctors removed the arrow from her leg yesterday. the eight year old girl was climbing on a large whale sculpture at the lawrence hall of science when she was shot. it was part of a school trip at the science center.

witnesses say there were other students in the play area when the incident happened. >> there wore a lot of school kids there were a lot of the school kids. >> it was a regular size bow and she was pretty calm >> investigators are trying to figure out where this came from. preliminary statements say that this could have been north of the science center but she is going to be okay. investigators are now trying to figure out where the arrow came from. preliminary witness statements suggest it may have been shot from somewhere north of the science center. >> the morgan hill pre- school teacher. accused of drugging at least five students, in order to get them to take a nap, pleaded not guilty. debbie gratz is facing 10 - counts of child endangerment and assault. there were a number angry parents in attendance

and here's a live look outside. as you can imagine. it was a very tough day for some of the bridge toll workers. some had started at the district more than twenty years ago. so saying good bye was difficult. there were a lot of hugs and a lot of tears shed as the workers wrapped up their shifts for the last time. we already heard from the last toll taker. but a few others reflected on their jobs and how workers were like a family.
