approaching us and as it does lyrics by acting widespread showers and thunderstorms. the rain is sitting offshore but it is expected to hit the north bay. >> new this morning, u.s. park police are investigating a shooting in san francisco's fort mason area. people in the normally quiet area reported hearing gunfire around 9 last night. minutes later, a man walked into a restaurant in ghirardelli square with a shot to the leg. authorities excpect him to survive his injury. police have not yet identified or arrested a >> a 78-year-old woman is robbed in the mission district of san francisco. and, as kron four's philippe djegal reports. it happened while she was trying to protect her grandson from >> the san francisco police say officers are already making extra rounds in the area of 24th and capp in the mission district.

and, will continue to do so in light of thursday night's attack. police say a 16-year-old boy was returning home with his grandmother. after her doctor's appointment at a nearby hospital. when at around six o'clock in the evening. four teenage boysattacked the 16-year-old on the sidewalk. he was punched several times. and a tooth was knocked out. police say the suspects then stole his grandmother's purse. when she tried fighting off her grandson's attackers. police say this area is considered a hot spot in the mission district. it's near bart, several bus stops and businesses that close before it gets dark. but despite warning the public against it. police say people continue to use electronic devices while in the area. or, carry large bags and purses. which, police say, attracts theives. this couple has lived in the area for three years. and, say they've had enough. within a block or to from

here there is at least one or two assaults. it is disturbing and i don't feel comfortable walking out at night. people need to be very aware and alert. to consider moving away from the area every day. at this time, police are not releasing detailed descriptions of the suspects. they say they don't want to compromise their investigation. but say they are looking into the possibility that surveillance cameras may have caught the incident on video. in the mission district of san francisco, philippe >> two children will spend the weekend recovering from injuries they sustained. during two separate shootings this week in the east bay. kron 4's mike pelton is live at richmond police headquaters with more. mike? fortunately bulk of those children are expected to be ok. she received treatment

they're so outraged that this happened to the child. >> a man is facing assault charges. after a nasty attack on another fan at the a's-giants game thursday night. this footage shows the fight that broke out. according to police, trinidad juarez was arrested about ten oclock thursday night in the arcade area of the ballpark. witnesses describe seeing juarez kicking someone in the head. while the victim, reportedly wearing a's gear, lay on the ground. it's not clear if the attack was related to cross bay rivalry. juarez was taken into custody on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and probation violation. the victim suffered from swelling and cuts. >> in oakland this morning. an easter weekend treat for elephants at the oakland zoo. visitor get the fun of feeding the packaderms with fresh produce. its part of the bi-annual "feast for the beasts" event at the oakland zoo.

the first 250 guests will be allowed to enter the elephant enclosure before they're fed. today also marks the opening of a new exhibit at the zoo called "animals of the trees". >> a tiger cub born last month at the san francisco zoo will make her first public debut today. these are photos of the sumatran tiger dubbed "the cub". she is about five weeks old and has been kept out of the public's view so she and her mother could spend some time bonding. with south korea. however, pentagon officials say the declaration is nothing more than war- mongering rhetoric. none the less analysts are keeping an eye on events like a closely watched chess game. today's announcement comes after a rally in north korean capital pee-yong- yang on friday. thousands gathered in staged protest of u-s participation in south korean military drills friday. north korean leader kim jong-oon has reportedly ordered that rockets be aimed at american targets in korea, and toward u-s soil. >> in iraq, a string ofdozens more were wounded. this comes amid a rise in >> u-s commandos in eastern afghanistan have handed over their base to afghan special forces. the move meets a demand by president hamid karzai to have american forces leave the area. karzai accused u-s troops and an interpreter working with them of torture, kidnapping and execution of militant suspects at the base. work alongside local police to keep insurgents from using the area to attack the capital of kabul.

>> the body of a fallen marine is back home in the bay area. lance corporal sara castro- mata. who is from oakley. was killed last week at a marine base in quantico, virginia. officials say, a relationship dispute could be to blame for the deadly triple shooting. here are photographs of 19- year old castro-mata. she joined the marines in december 20-11. last month, she was promoted to lance corporal. both the accused shooter. and castro-mata are from the bay area. her accused killer. sergeant eusobia lopez. is from pacifica. he committed suicide after the attack on castro-mata and another marine. >> coming up on kron 4 news weekend [ both ] we're foodies.

after superstorm sandy-- more than two- thousand people displaced by the storm are still living in new york city hotels. the federal emergency management agency is paying for rooms that cost about 252-dollars a night for more than 900 households at 45 different hotels around the city. the city department of homeless services says those families will soon get public housing apartments. city officials say the hotel stays are supposed to end by april 30th. >> the state emergency management agency has released a new map which shows what could happen. if a large tsunami wave were to hit the california coast. kron 4's charles clifford >> across california, the 267,000 thousand people live in area's that are vulnerable to a tsunamis another 169,000 people work

in those same locations. behind me here is a google earth map that shows what would happen if a magnitude 8 earthquake somewhere offshore sent a tsunami wave towards the coast. let's focus on what would happen here in the bay area. the purple area's are where the wave could hit. in san francisco, a wave hitting ocean beach could reach inland as far as 47th street. the wave would also pass through the golden gate and reach locations inside san francisco bay. in the marina, on the city's northern edge, the wave could stretch to bay street.in the middle of the bay, treasure island could be completely washed over. and in the east bay, nearly all of the port of oakland, large swaths of alameda and the area around the oakland airport could be inundated. a tsunami could also reach inland as far as the oakland coliseum. the state e-m-a hopes that these updated maps will help local agencies create better emergency response plans. in the newsroom, charles clifford kron 4 news. >> yosemite's curry village

has reopened and ready for spring and summer visitors. this after it became the site of a deadly hanta virus outbreak last summer. the outbreak at the popular lodging spot killed three people. and sickened ten others. the virus is spread by rodent droppings. each year. thousands of people visit curry village. which is made up of more than 400 canvas and wood cabins. the tents where the hanta virus infections were found, are in what's called. the "signature series cabins". the park service crews removed more than 90 of those cabins. in an effort to permanently stop the disease from spreading. they're also cleaning the other cabins. and working to educate visitors about how hanta virus spreads. >> labor and business leaders say they're close to a deal for a new low-skilled worker program. disagreement over the conditions of the program last week threatened to de- rail a sweeping immigration reform bill in the u-s senate.

that bill would increase border security and provide a path to legal status for 11 million immigrants. the worker program will create visas for housekeepers, long-term care workers, and other low-skilled laborers. >> a former aerobics instructor in maine has pleaded guilty to charges of theft, tax evasion and prostitution. alxis wright was originally indicted on more than a hundred charges. prosecutors accused her of running a prostitution business out of her zumba fitness studio. they agreed to downgrade the charges, so wright would not face a felony. in return, she was to plead guilty, spend ten months in jail, and pay fines and restitution of more than 50-thousand >> "obviously, the amount of jail time that's involved for someone who's never gone to jail before and that has no criminal record is disappointing, but obviously, it's nice to see that miss wright will not be convicted of a felony and that that will not follow her."

helicopter partnership with a-b-c 7 news..showing cops on the scene. just before 5-pm gunshots were reported near the corner of 82nd avenue and a street. police say the girl was taken to a hospital and treated for minor injuries. this is just one of several incidents where injury was caused by shots fired in oakland yesterday. >> that is the sound of bullets captured by a police shot spotter. those shots fired in richmond thursday afternoon. ended up hitting a one- year old baby boy. the gunman responsible for that shooting is still on the loose. the boy is at home recovering from removal of a bullet fragment in the neck. >> police are offering a 25- thousand dollar reward. for information leading to the arrest of the suspect. authorities say, the department is going all- out on this investigation.

>> police say, they are also looking at surveilance cameras in the area. to try and identify and capture the gunman. >> a fremont man has been convicted of second-degree murder for fatally stabbing a newark high school football player outside of a house party last year. 18-year-old osana futi was found stabbed in april last year after police responded to a loud party in fremont. futi was getting ready to graduate from newark memorial high school where he was a star running back and linebacker. the man who killed futi, 19-year-old abraham hade, was convicted thursday. prosecutors say hade led a local gang associated with the nortenos. he is facing 16-years to life in prison. >> san bruno police are stole a number of laptops

from el crystal elementary school in san bruno. just after ten thursday night, someone broke into the school and stole 18 of the school's mac book pro's. those computers were primarily used for exceleration and intervention programs. but also contained educational software. the laptops are valued at 40-thousand dollars. and the principal says, it will take quite a while for the school to replace them. >> authorities believe a milpitas bank robbery suspect is also responsible for two robberies in palo supporters of gay marriage.

ninth. he's also accused of robbing a credit union in of cash january, and a walgreens of drugs in december. all three robberies involved the use of a gun. thompson was located and arrested in emeryville on tuesday. police say thompson may also be responsible for robberies in san francisco, redwood city, santa clara and fremont. police arrest man connected to milpitas bank robbery in emeryville by bay city ews service a man tuesday in connection with a bank robbery from more than two weeks ago, police said. hunter d. thompson, 32, of san jose, is believed to have robbed a chase bank, located at 37 n. milpitas blvd., on the afternoon of march 9, according to olice. into the bank with a firearm, approached a bank teller and handed over a demand note, police said. the teller handed over cash and the suspect fled, according to police. police were unable to find after the robbery and, after a joint investigation with san jose located and arrested in emeryville on tuesday, according to police. officers recovered a revolver and an air gun in the car thompson mom, i invited justin over for lunch.

injuries that they sustain during two separate shootings this weekend in the east bay. kron4 mike pelton as liven up a richmond police headquarters. >> they are continuing to interview people and there was a bullet fragment found in a child's neck. this is one of two shootings that happened within the past several days. these children are expected to be okay. the latest incident happened in east oakland and as you take a look at this video with our partnership with abc 7 news. there responded before 5:00 p.m. of shots that were fired. oakland police told me that two suspects fired multiple rounds and that the tenure road was struck by the bullet. she was receiving treatment for her injuries. the one-year-old is recovering and he is not of the hospital after a bullet fragment struck him in the neck. the grandfather was
