approach they have been taking. and to try to lower temperatures nobody wants to see a conflict or creative incident. reporter: pentagon report says north korea probably has niche -- nuclear weapons which can be launched by ballistic missiles although it says the weapons probably are not very reliable, that assessment was revealed today by a colorado congressman during a house hearing, a continuing concern of course what north korea's missiles might be capable of doing chuck clippard has more on that. reporter: the weapon that has been the focus of attention over the past couple of days is called a missile let's take a look at a google earth map of north korea we don't know exactly where this missile is in captain but experts believe any lunch would probably come from north korea's east coast, the mussadon is believed to have a range of about 2175 miles at that distance north korea could in

theory strike anywhere inside south korea the missile could also cross the sea of japan putting all of japan in danger. but that is not all, the outside range of this missile extends far out into the pacific ocean, it could possibly reach the us territory and military outpost of guam. this particular weapon could not reach hawaii, alaska or mainland united states that is believed to have other missiles that might have that capability. finally the united states south korea and japan are using ground, sea and air -based radar systems as well as satellites to keep an eye out for any possible launch in the newsroom charles clifford kron four news. >> the real estate market in the bay area is hot again but the limited inventory is making it very competitive for buyers to find their dream home for example back in 2007 more than 13,000 homes were for sale in alameda counties. in 2011, that number dropped to between 4000 and 7000 homes.

newscast. >> powerful storms have done damage to parts of the midwest and southeast looking at missouri, this is not too far from st. louis now confirmed the suburb of hazelwood was hit by a tornado last night. we have a closer look at some of the damage, a lot of big trees uprooted, crushing cars and homes, a look at that came down on top of the roof about home at least two dozen houses in the town of hazelwood for damaged at least one dead several injuries have been blamed on this spring storm system. tornadoes also touched thursday in mississippi not a lot of morning why most people to cover this man caught the tornado on camera, storms headed east where more trouble was expected another hard-hit area, northern arkansas look at the damage here. you can see the bus on its side not much left of the house this is van buren county. cars and trucks flipped over,

profile at this time they are doing a slow rollout to users. if you don't see them be patient the new features should arrive to your profile within a few weeks. gabe slate kron4 news. >> georgia firefighters responded yesterday to what they thought was a medical call, man with a heart of cap they ended up being held for hours as hostages we know that the gunmen might have been upset about money problems. melissa rainey has the latest. reporter: police say the firefighters arrived ready to help someone in need wednesday afternoon instead they were taken hostage. this is a radio transmission from one of the hostages. >> we are in a situation where we have an armed person and he is requesting certain -- certain

utilities to be turned back on at the house and he is armed and we are in the room with him. reporter: authorities believe financial trouble let the government take firefighters hostage a say the home was in foreclosure but have not said whether that had anything to do with the situation. >> apparently going through some financial issues, power was turned off along with cable and cell phone. reporter: after several hours with no progress authorities decided to take action to back it got to a point where we believe their lives were in immediate danger in our swat team made the decision to go in and neutralize the situation. reporter: to use explosives to distract the suspect he was killed in gunfire. and neighbor was home with her daughter when it happened. >> she was sleeping, my daughter was sleeping and i woke her up. reporter: firefighters and one police officer suffered when her injuries. melissa rainey kron4 news.

underground utility box firefighters discovered the dead squirrel. >> apparently the squirrel crossed a circuit somewhere and wound up causing a short circuit which shut down power to most of the complex. not too long after that we had gas inside the structure, natural gas. reporter: it is not exactly clear how the short circuit led to the ghastly themes found their way inside the bank leading to the evacuation order and the alert traffic along highway nine santa cruz avenue in nearby highway 17 were affected by this. >> under the students at a high school in antioch tested for tuberculosis today. this comes after one student diagnosed. reporter: the reason why. entire school was not tested only a few hundred because the health department pinpointed the students share classrooms or clubs of the student who was diagnosed back on march 25 of

tuberculosis. a simple blood test, results should come back in about two weeks from now we got a chance to talk about the health department here is what she had to say. >> kids possibly exposed to tuberculosis, a blood test to determine if the germ is in their body, infected with tb does not mean they are sick, just means they are infected and we want to get the medication. there's a difference between tuberculosis infection but when the germ is in your body in sleeping cap be passed to other people when people are very sick sick, coughing, fever, night sweats. reporter: even if the tests are positive that doesn't mean the kids have tuberculosis, everything should be fine. this happened back on march 25 the person was told to stay home, was treated. right now back in school reporting from antioch kron4 news. >> a school bus crashed into a car in daly city this is video from
