difficult in this section. maureen kelly, kron 4 news. >>pam: a deadly crash in san francisco this morning. will tran reports. >> here's what we know is that the driver of the garbage truck and the bicyclist were both moving from the left to the right of your screen on the 16th and south van ness. witnesses tell me, that the garbage truck driver had the green light, he makes a right turn here onto south van ness, but he did not see the bicyclist. the witness also tells me that the bicyclist was moving very fast at the time. here's video that we got from the scene. it is all happening shortly before 7:00 this morning. after hitting a bicyclist, the driver drag the bicyclist several feet, but he did not know what happened. he continues to go down south van ness to the intersection of 17th and that is or is it about to go underneath the garbage truck that was left at the scene.

bridge and this support tower is what's called pier e-2. tower. between the deck and the tower are several joints known as shear keys and bearings these joints sit on top of the tower and the road deck sits on top of them. they're designed to support the roadway in the event of an earth quake. the broken bolts were supposed to anchor a shear key here and here to the column. the repair that caltrans has designed will put cables over the top of the column and then down thehere's an artist rendering of the work. the purple cable will go over the top and hold the shear key down and then a web of cable will be anchored to the tower. caltrans says this design will be just as strong as the original bolts were supposed to be. in the newsroom, charles clifford kron 4 news. bu >>pam:we're finding out more about the young british

soldier murdered in london police say, lee rigby was executed by two islamist fanatics - in what's being described as a terror attack. catherine heenan is here with more. catherine. >> catherine: the 25-year- old who was hacked to death with a meat cleaver.and shot. was a 25-year-old drummer and machine gunner. lee rigby is the father of a 2-year-old boy and is being remembered as a good- natured young soldier who had wanted to serve in the military since childhood. the two suspects remain hospitalized after being shot by police. they lingered on the scene talking on camera to a witness. he said he did it as an act of revenge for muslims killed in war. british security services potential militants. raising questions about how closely they were monitored. a muslim spokesman in london, meantime.says muslim to rein in militants.

just killed two cops. it happened on february 26 outside suspect jeremy goulet's home. at least 35 rounds could be heard. all fired in 12 seconds. some of the bullets hitting a nearby garage goulet was killed, he was wearing body armor and had three guns. two of those weapons -- believed to belong to the fallen officers. today, the santa cruz county district attorney said.ofcer's s justified and heroic. here are those two officers who were killed. both veterans. elizabeth butler and loran 'butch' baker. they were gunned down as they tried to arrest jeremy goulet in connection with an alleged sexual assault. at a news conference today, sheriff phil wowack also revealed for the first time, in chilling detail, how goulet ambushed the two officers at point blank range. >> those officers were standing at the doorstep when he exited the home. within 3 seconds, he fired five rounds at the two officers from his personally owned 45 caliber

>>pam: that's matthew kimball , a former bay area eagle scout, who left scouting because he was gay and later, who encouraged other eagle scouts to give up their pins in support of gay scouts who were told they couldn't earn their eagle awards. while pleased with the scouts must go the extra step and allow gay adults to be scout leaders as well. a pair of female cellphone snatchers are targeting students in the dublin area.several recent incidents happening at the end of the school day. two female adults asking students to borrow the phones before stealing them. the dublin unified school district says so far there has been 3-cellphone theft incidents involving students from dublin high school, valley high, and wells middle school san francisco police tried out a new way to help prevent cell phone theft. officers handed out flyers on 19th avenue in the sunset district.warning people the dangers of distracted walking. that's when people are paying more attention to their cell phones and electronic devices than their surroundings. police say it makes people an easy target for thieves.
