coverage kron 4's dan kerman takes a on the new span. >>dan: it has to do with some of the boats used to attach the railing to the bike path deck. officials say some of the tops of the boats were sheared off because something was welded and correctly. -- incorrectly. bridge officials say this was discovered last year. >> the remote the caps, they removed the ineffective or both. they put into play to that provided more freedom of the movement when the deck plates moved. and what new boats in and they did not put the new caps and.

the scene had been rendered first aid to the subject until the ambulance personnel to arrive on the scene. >>pam: two other suspects ran away but there were taken into custody later at the scene. these are surveillance photos of the two suspects. police say they got in the house through an unlocked window. and ran off with jewelry. it happened during broad daylight. neighbors reported seeing the suspects posing as magazine salespeople. they were seen leaving the area in a newer model red sedan. a recent spike in violence has led to a swift response from police and city leaders in san jose. three slayings sunday put the city on a pace that would match last year's total of 46, which was a 20-year high. police have not said whether the killings are gang-related but will be stepping up enforcement in known gang 'hot spots' nonetheless and

one city councilman will convene an anti-crime community meeting this evening. we'll have expanded coverage of this story coming up on kron 4 news at six. >>grant:developing right now. another high profile politicial.targeted with deadly poison. new york mayor michael bloomberg was sent two letters last week that contained ricin. both letters included threats about gun control. mayor bloomberg is an outspoken advocate of gun control. one of the letters went to new york's mail facility. the other went to washington non-profit bloomberg founded called mayors against illegal guns. the mayor did not come into contact with the letters. however some of the people who handled the letter in new york became sick.but are not showing symptoms any more. it's not clear if the letters were related to other threatening, ricin- laced letters sent to other lawmakers recently, including president obama.

>>catherine: the newborn boy rescued from a sewer pipe in china is doing better. he's in the hospital - in stable condition. doctors say he's drinking comfortably, and should be ok. the video of his rescue - after he'd slipped down a toilet - caught the world's attention. the mother of the boy now says she became pregnant after a one night stand. and couldn't afford an abortion. she claims she tried to catch the baby after giving birth in a toilet.but police have not wrapped up the investigation. the baby's rescue took 2 hours - and involved >>pam:aneheim police have arrested a disneyland employee.who is accused of placing a dry-ice bomb inside the disney park yesterday. police say the dry-ice bomb caused a small explosion. it caused evacuations in mickey's toon-town. no one was hurt. the vender, identified as held on one-million dollars bail. catherine. and a startling discovery in walt disney world. a woman and her grandson

c'est une veritable victoire. >>pam:a big story on french television today. the country's first same=sex marriage broadcast live. the ceremony follows months of fierce debates in the french national assembly, and large demonstrations pro and con in the streets of paris. the newlyweds say they are happy to finally have the french citizens. when french children are born into this world, they are born with the same rights as everyone else but from the moment you said you were a homosexual, society deprived you of some of those rights >>pam:the u=s supreme court could rule within a few weeks whether same sex couples in this country have the right to marry. catherine heenan is here to bring us up to date on the legal battle that began right here in the bay area. this was the joyful scene at

>>catherine: san francisco city hall in 2004, after then=mayor gavin newsom authorized the county clerk to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. the mayor's action was quickly overturned by the courts, but it definitely energized the long=running legal debate over gay rights. same sex couples filled the offices, halls and stairways but it turned out to be a short honeymoon. within a few weeks, the state supreme court ordered the marriages stopped. and in august declared all of the nearly 4=thousand unions null and void. the next year, california's legislature passed the country's first law legalizing same sex marriage. governor schwazenegger vetoed it. in 2007, california legislators passed a new bill. and it was vetoed again. in 2008, california's supreme court ruled that

same sex couples should have the right to marry. the 2004 unions were declared valid after all. opponents of same sex marriage began collecting signatures for a measure to ban same sex marriages. in november of 2009, prop 8 passed with a 52 percent majority. the next year a federal judge declared in unconstitutional. in 2012, the ninth circuit appeals court agreed. and last december, the u=s supreme court agreed to take the case. the justices heard the arguments in march and are expected to make their ruling next month. tea party favorite michele bachmann says she will 'not' run for a 5th term in congress. she insists the decision has

nothing to do with her razor-thin 2012 victory -- or the ongoing investigations into her campaign finances. the minnesota republican made the announcement in an posted on you-tube. she gave no indication of what she might do after leaving congress - but says future run for office. bachmann has been accused of improperly spending money from a political action committee during her 2012 run for the republican presidential nomination. rhode island's governor is switching political parties.again. lincoln chay-fee was elected to the u-s senate as a republican. then he was elected governor - after running as an independent. now.he's going to be a democrat. he apparently believes the move will give him a better shot at re-election in 2014 he's facing what could be a tough democratic primary to defend his seat. white house spokesman jay carney says that chay-fee has been a longtime

a look at the damage. at least a half dozen farms were hit in kansas. there's debris everywhere. in central michigan.storms blew down trees and destroyed a home. and as the storms keep coming.so does the rain. this is what happened at a college building in galesburg illinois. when the windows and doors could no longer keep out the floodwaters. the school has been closed.crews got right to the mess could take days to there's more stormy weather in the forecast. bad news for people around from that huge tornado last week. the sirens they usually depend on are damaged. the fall-back for many people - radios. everyone wants one.
