with populations over 100- thousand.this according to new fbi crime statistics. grant lodes is back to show up how property crime was also up. >> reporter: we're talking home deaths and car thefts and things like arson. we'll focus on berkeley, vallejo, richmond, and fremont. the fbi data compares 2011 crime numbers to 2012. in 2012.almost 57-hundred property crimes in berkeley - up 18.3 percent from the year before. more than 58- hundred in vallejo.an increase of 11.4 percent. richmond saw just over 5- thousand property crimes, which is 10.4 percent higher. and in fremont.more than 42-hundred property crimes. up 7.8 percent from 20-11. and the big three cities are just as bad, or worse. tonight at six.i'll break down the new numbers for oakland, san francisco, and san jose.

southern california. but there's more work to go for the more than two-thousand firefighters on the job. the powerhouse fire has burned more than 32-thousand acres in the palmdale area, north of los angeles. an official with the angeles national forest says the fire has destroyed a half- dozen homes and threatened about a thousand others. >> reporter: injured. helped by higher humidity, firefighters gained a lot of ground going into today's battle, increasing containment from 40 percent yesterday to 60 percent today. evacuees from two communities are being allowed to return. but i said -- not everyone has a home to return to. >> reporter:over in new mexico, the fight continues against the tres lagunas fire, which has scorched about eight-thousand acres. it's also prompted the evacuation of about a hundred summer homes. it's just five percent contained.

(male announcer): this is the bay area news station, kron 4 news starts now. >> pam: now at six. >> pam: oakland police searching for a suspect. an fbi report out today details how crime is on the rise all over the bay area. kron four shows you where homes are most likely to be burglarized and which town is now the most likely place to have your car stolen. >> pam: the f-b-i has released crime data for all metropolitan areas. and here in the bay area. 12 of the 15 biggest cities saw crime go up. we analyzed the numbers and there were plenty that jumped out at us. grant lodes is live in the studio with the amazing numbers. grant? >> reporter: the numbers are retty dramatic. property crimes skyrocketing in several big bar area cities.things like burglaries.vehicle thefts.arson.the largest jump from 20-11 to 20-12 was in san jose. in 2012 there were more than 28-thousand property crimes that's up nearly 30 percent from the previous year. in san jose, vehicle thefts were up nearly 60 percent.

meanwhile, in oakland, more than 26--thousand property crimes.that's a 26-percent increase. and in san francisco.nearly 39- thousand property crimes.up more than 18 percnet from the year before. >> reporter:now let's break- down violent crimes.this is murders, rapes, and robbeires. oakland saw the largest increase. nearly 8-thousand violent crimes in 20-12.and increase of almost 20 percent from the previous year. there were about 12 robberies a day in oakland last year. you had more than 35-hundred violent crimes in san jose - that's up 10-point-6 percent from 20-11. and in san francisco.nealy six thousand violent crimes which is a 7.5 percent increase. >> pam: police have announced two

arrests in a recent double murder that began a week of violence and gang-worries, leading to an all out effort to put more cops on the streets of san jose. but as kron four's rob fladeboe reports now, police no longer suspect gang violence in this case and that is welcome news in the neighborhood where the killings occurred. >> reporter: for gary esposito, who passes by a memorial for the slain teens on his way to school each day, word that the killings are not gang-related is the best possible news for he and his neighbors here along rinehart drive. gary esposito/neighbor >> reporter: man, 19-year- old matthew clifford and a a 17-year-old boy, whose name is not being released, were arrested and booked on murder charges in connection with the case. having ruled out a gang connection, police refused to discuss a motive for the may 26 shooting, which claimed the lives of 16 year old john son cular and 15-year old christian comilang, both of whom attended independence
