carjacked another vehicle at 105th avenue and san leandro street, shooting that driver in the leg during the crime. >> pam: that car was later abandoned. and a third vehicle was stolen at gunpoint shortly before noon. on 76th avenue. no one was hurt. that was the last time the suspect was seen. >> pam: the same crash killed her three year-old son on impact and now the mother has died. they show the car that will split in half fremont police sayfremont police say, charges are pending against the father of a toddler killed in a horrific accident tuesday afternoon. you can see the pictures from our partnership with abc7 news. they show the car that was split in half when it slammed into a tree on paseo padre parkway. police say, the car had been speeding. >> reporter: trying to

the first officers on the scene. >> reporter:he says he spotted the limp body of the 16 year old girl under a picnic table, propped up by a support beam. he says she was unresponsive other than moaning and vomiting. he testified her dress had been hiked up above her waist exposing her vagina and buttocks and had not other clothing on. >> reporter:earlier in the day, paramedic rich munoz testified when moving the victim to a gurney and then to an ambulance he saw abrasions on her back and knees and swelling on the left side of her face. he also believed she may have suffered a brain injury, and thus needed to be transported to the county trauma center. >> reporter:officer guggins also testified that he spotted manuel ortega running from the scene. ortega was the only suspect captured at the scene and is now serving a 32 year prison sentence for rape. guggins testified ortega told him ?i was just trying to pimp her out.? ortega is expected to testify at this trial, as is the victim.

the building that fell was reportedly being demolished. it's still an active scene, with a heavy search and rescue operation. a 4-story building collapsed on top of a 2- story building -- a thrift shop -- next door. firefighters believe they have everyone out, but things could have been worse if workers nearby hadn't reacted quickly. >> we was laying roof. we heard a big bang - explosion - whatever. we looked over, ran down - everybody ran down and we went in there and started pulling people out. >> reporter:initial reports suggest it was an industrial accident. the company handling the demolition of the building has not issued any comment on the incident. >> pam: the homicide rate continues to rise in san jose. just five days ago, the city had 21 homicides for the year. on pace for 49. that number just got bigger. one person died yesterday after a fight on saturday. that marks 22 for the year. the city is now on pace for 52 homicides -- the most since 1991. making things worse. another body was
