the rest of what appeared >> teens worked to close the restaurant when a man wearing gloves and masks into the store with a handgun. the suspects took cash and doing the altercation one of the female employees ran outside and she alerted the police who were outside making a traffic stop. >> one of the employees tried to grab the suspects dumdon when the police officers arrived. >> >> all freak employees inside the restaurant are physically ok but are very upset and shaken by this or

dill. police were able to shoot and kill the suspect while he was in the store. >> alameda county sheriff's conducting a traffic stop in castro valley. suddenly, they were interrupted by a robbery that was happening only a few feet away. it all happened just after boulevard. a deputy pulled a car over in front of the boulevard burger restaurant. he wasthat'se notified of a robbery at the burger joint. both deputies went inside and saw a suspect wearing gloves, a ski mask, and holding a 3 - 57 revolver. sergeant j-d nelson explains the heroic actions one employee took to prevent anyone from getting hurt. >>".hitting the suspect." the employee who grabbed the suspect's arm suffered a minor powder burn and was taken to the hospital. no one else was hurt in the gunfire. and the suspect has not yet been identified. in other news this morning. police have arrested at least two protestors outside the former hayes valley farm in san francisco. the group of about 50 activists want to prevent

what was farm land from becoming a housing development. instead, they want the plot on laguna between fell and oak streets to remain open space. last night, police arrested two people for throwing bottles at officers. however, officers haven't stopped the group from blocking traffic near the site. >>"you know what? as long as there's no violence, they have a right to protest. they can march and we'll monitor. we'll continue to do that. they don't have a right to re-occupy this particular ground, and that's what we're preventing." protestors had occupied the space since june 1st, but were removed on thursday. they returned last night, and were still demonstrating early this morning. if you're planning to drive through the area today, you may want to take an alternate route. protesters greet vice president joe biden as he fundraiser in san francisco. they are targeting the keystone x-l pipleine project. the project is supposed to extend from the canadian border to the gulf coast. supporters say it is projected to give america energy independence. those opposed say it will create an environmental nightmare. the political fundraiser was held at the home of doug hickey. he's the c-e-o of a beverage company called "bin- wise" tickets ranged from 500- to 10-thousand dollars. livermore police are warning

residents about a crime spike. there have been eight day time home burglaries in four days. now authorities are warning residents to keep an eye out for suspicious activity. here's a look at where the burglaries have happened. the first break-in was on sunday. the rest between monday and wednesday. block of debra street. kron four's philippe djegal spoke with one of those victims. livermore police say, the solicitors. knocking on doors to see who is home. police say if a stranger knocks on your door, don't answer it and report any suspicious activity to police.

proposing to name the western span of the bay bridge after former assembly speaker and two- term san francisco mayor willie brown. if the resolution goes through the assembly, part of the bridge will be known as the willie l. brown, jr. bridge. we asked for your thoughts on facebook and nearly 100 viewers liked the idea. but not all. gregory said: what are we going to name the eastern span the jean quan bridge? while timothy said: i love the idea. he's a political legend. enough said. we always want your opinion. you can log onto the kron4 facebook fan-page, like us, and let us know what you think. negotiations between facebook's top attorney and national securiity officials are leading to unprecidented permission from the government to release information. the government says facebook is allowed to tell the public about government orders for user data. facebook is only allowed to talk about total numbers-- but lobbying is to reveal more. following the guidelines, facebook received between nine-and ten-thousand requests from government agencies during the last six months of 2012. on subjects from missing children to terrorist threats.

firefighters are making progress on the massive wildfire still burning near colorado springs. authorities have lifted evacuations after a surprise rain shower. helped them tame the blaze that has destroyed 400 homes. and an eastern stretch of the black forest. has also

been reopened. officials are warning that the fire could flare up again. if the weather shifts. the wildfire-- that also killed two people-- is already being called the most destructive fire in colorado history. it is now 30 -percent contained. authorities say a juvenile is being questioned after a fire burned 40 acres of dry brush in riverside county. investigators talked to a boy who appeared to be about 13. they are not saying what the boy told them. the fire has been burning since last sunday and is about 75-percent contained. let's take a quick look outside this morning. let's check in with

>>now to story you will on see here on kron four/. few were brave enough to try violent rampage at a bart station last month. haaziq madyum has the bart employee who rushed in to help. the video of the incident bart officer response times. bart police chief kenton rainey says safety is his department's number one concern.

and in direct response to what happened, the department will provide extra overtime for officers and assign uniformed community service officers to bart stations during peak hours san francisco police arrived first and made the arrest.

but iwhile the bart department currently has 27 vacant officer positions, chief rainey says, officer staffing is actually higher over the past three years compared to past years. bart says quarterly average response times have been met, but the chief admits, that did not happen last month, when this man began his attack. investigations are taking

place at two louisiana chemical plants. explosions people this week. the first one happened thursday at a chemical plant in geismar. this is video of that explosion, where two people died. school site happened friday at c-f industries in donaldsonville, louisiana. officials say employees attempted to pump too much nitrogen into a vessel. it ruptured and caused the explosion. at least seven people were taken to the hospital. authorities say the fire is out. and that the scene is stable. your tim

google is now launching internet-beaming balloons into the stratosphere. the gigantic, jellyfish- shaped balloons are sending signals from about 12 miles above earth. about 50 homes in parts of new zealand are already able

to get online as a result. google eventually wants to get the whole world on the web. in some more remote locations, the balloons are less expensive than installing fiber-optic cables. microsoft office is now available for the i-phone. i-phone users can now edit in microsoft excel or work on a powerpoint on the go. but they cannot start any new documents. just a few days ago apple announced that its own i- work suite is now compatible with microsoft products. no word if office will be available for android users anytime soon. facebook and microsoft say they've received *thousands of requests for user data from the u-s government. in the second half of last year, facebook had requests targeting as many as 19- thousand accounts. a facebook attorney says the requests included assistance finding missing children, tracking fugitives, local crimes and even terrorist threats. microsoft says it received similar subpeonas and orders, affecting up to 32- thousand consumer accounts. both companies say they released the information. a big recall to tell you about.attention parents 165- thousand nap nanny baby recliners are being recalled. it's all in connection to at least 5 infant deaths. and nearly a hundred reports of babies falling out, or hanging off the side of the seats. first reports of problems with the 'nap nanny' came in

early next year. the cross country search for a child predator ends here in the bay area. san francisco authorities say, they captured a fugitive and convicted child molester who fled his 2009 trial in georgia. marcus tillman -- this is his picture -- was arrested by authorities at a san francisco coffeehouse. a u-s marshal says, tillman initially gave the officer a fake i-d. before later admitting his real identity. prosecutors in georgia say, tillman cut his ankle monitor and fled the state years ago. during a molestation trial. he was later convicted of child molestation and sentenced to 40- years in prison. tillman has been profiled several times on the t-v show "america's most wanted". california's legislature has passed the state's massive spending plan. despite sharp division over whether the democratic budget will help or hurt the state's economic recovery. the senate and assembly each passed the 96- billion

dollar budget which was pushed by the democrats. the budget is expected to greatly help schools. this comes a night before the constitutional deadline for lawmakers to send a balanced budget to the governor. republican legislators complain that the budget for the fiscal year fails to address the state's debt particularly unfunded pensions. bart directors have approved a 1-point-5 billion dollar budget for the fiscal year beginning july 1st. none of that going to more officers. however part of the money will be spent on improvements such as replacing existing train car seats and floors. a new train control system and a heating and air conditioning systems, and new rail cars altogether. management is also offering employees a wage increase of 1 percent for each of the next three years. the future of the bay bridge light art installation. looks bright! the final portion of funding for the bay lights is int he bank. it's all thanks to a one-

one person is dead from an explosion at a louisiana chemical plant friday. officials say it happened at c-f industries in donaldsonville, louisiana. employees attempted to pump too much nitrogen into a vessel. it ruptured. and caused the explosion. at least seven people were taken to the hospital. out. and that the scene is stable. there was another explosion just thursday at a nearby chemical plant in geismar. two people died there. in world news. both sides in the syrian civil war have been promised help. the leader of hezbollah is promising that his militant group, which is based in lebanon, will keep fighting alongside syrian government troops. this comes after the u-s agrees to arm the rebels. they are expected to get small arms, ammunition and possibly anti- tank weapons. the obama administration
