>> a 53-year-old man is shot and killed by police in fremont sunday morning. it happened just before seven a-m a woman called police asking for help with her mentally ill son. when they arrived police say the suspect, was armed with a knife, was flipping over furniture and was throwing objects out a window. investigators say as the two officers entered the home, they were confronted by the suspect and they had no choice but to open fire, shooting and killing him. both officers have been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. we will take a quick break. here is a quick look outside. the drive looks decent.

>> it was a memorable fathers day for some inmates at san quentin. they were able to spend time with their children. kron 4's alecia reid was there for the visit and shares how a charity made it all possible. its an organization that reconnects children with their incarcerated parents. and for many of the people we met at san quentin, it was years ago since they last saw their families. >> i didn't teach him how to shave or drive or anything. everything he needs to know to be a man i wasn't there to show him or give hand-me-downs and i'm ashamed of that. >> reporter: markee carter may never again see outside the prison walls of san quentinserving 3 life sentences, he's been out of

this is video from our helicopter partnership with a-b-c seven news. the fire also closed the right lane of highway 80 and slowed down the commute because of poor visibility from the smoke. the fire's cause has not yet been determined. >> some scary moments in downtown san francisco after a gas leak led to evacuations and street closures. police tell us that a private construction company struck an underground gas that caused the pipe to burst putting hundreds in danger. the accident led to several evacuations in the city's south of market area.
