>> a 53-year-old man is shot and killed by police in fremont sunday morning. it happened just before seven a-m a woman called police asking for help with her mentally ill son. when they arrived police say the suspect, was armed with a knife, was flipping over furniture and was throwing objects out a window. investigators say as the two officers entered the home, they were confronted by the suspect and they had no choice but to open fire, shooting and killing him. both officers have been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. we will take a quick break. here is a quick look outside. the drive looks decent.

>> it was a memorable fathers day for some inmates at san quentin. they were able to spend time with their children. kron 4's alecia reid was there for the visit and shares how a charity made it all possible. its an organization that reconnects children with their incarcerated parents. and for many of the people we met at san quentin, it was years ago since they last saw their families. >> i didn't teach him how to shave or drive or anything. everything he needs to know to be a man i wasn't there to show him or give hand-me-downs and i'm ashamed of that. >> reporter: markee carter may never again see outside the prison walls of san quentinserving 3 life sentences, he's been out of

his childrens' lives for years. like him, many of these men say seeing their children for father's day was an extra special treat --- all thanks to the organization 'get on the bus'. >> i'm not really an emotional person, but when i seen her i wanted to cry. it was like the day she was born >> when i see them i'm overjoyed. it's a feeling i can't explain.it's just love. it helps in so many areas of my life. >> reporter: this visit lasts only a few hours, but for the inmates and their families the memories last a lifetime >> it allows us from day to day to reflect on these positive moments >> when you go a long time with no visit and then they come like this it takes a lot of stress off youwhen i go back to the building with all these pictures and show my friends it's touching >> reporter: children also get to hold on to photos when they go homequality time doesn't only help the incarceratedit's a trickling

well >> prosecutors and george zimmerman's defense attorney's are returning for a second week of jury selection in zimmerman's second-degree murder trial. defense attorneys are confident they can pick a jury in the florida county where the neighborhood watch volunteer fatally shot 17-year-old trayvon martin in a gated community last year. zimmerman is pleading not guilty-- claiming self defense. so far attorneys have interviewed 41 people. we'll be following the latest with this case. >> the united states and cuba will restart talks about mail service. and these are aimed at ending a 50 year suspension. separate negotiations on immigration have been on hold since 2009
