>> the trial of accused serial murder suspect joesph naso. began today. he is the man charged with murdering four young women and dumping their bodies on the side of the road. cameras were allowed in court for the beginning of this trial. as kron four's terisa estacio reports, during opening statements, some members of the jury wiped away tears. >> reporter: here at the marin county courthouse.during opening statements of the joseph naso murder trial. prosecutors presented graphic pictures of all four victims. each had been left naked on the ground in the dirt. the photos of their decomposing bodies were so disturbing one juror fought back tears. this is joesph naso the 79 year old former photographer charged with murdering the women. at times, he smiled while prosecutors presented their case to the 6 women and 6 men on the jury. he also appeared smug. naso is representing himself. a public defender - you see sitting next to him, is offering him some legal assistance. this is the first time cameras were allowed in

court, since naso's arrest 3 years ago. then he was wearing a jail house uniform. now in court, he is allowed to wear a suit and tie. besides crime scene photos. prosecutors showed exerpts of what they call naso's rape diary. where he allegedly chronicled sexually assaulting several women. prosecutors also talked about how dna evidence found in panty hose used to strangle victim roxanne rogash is a match to naso. and the pantyhose contained the dna of naso's wife. this is a picture of all four victims. presented to the jury. these cases date back to the 1970s and 1990s. prosecutors say all four were prostitutes. all had matching initials. it was here in marin county off of sir francis drake that first victim, pamela parson's body was discovered in 1977. prosecutors say parsons worked as a prostittue in oakland near naso's home at the time. prosecturos also told the jury how parson's case and the others went unsolved for years. that is until naso was arrested in 2010 in connection with violating his probation on a theft charge in nevada. during a search of his reno nevada home and a safe deposit box. prosecutor revealed. photos of the victims were discovered, including news clippings of their murders, and some lingerie. we also learning that prosecutors now believe, in addition to the four victims they claim naso murdered a

(gavel) or the court could uphold prop eight, saying the states have the right to determine who can marry/ a knockdown, but not the endit would likely trigger a voter initiative to overturn prop 8. and public opinion has shifted in favor of same sex in 2009. (gavel) the final scenario, and the one some court watchers consider most likely is this: the court rules that the group defending proposition to do so. (ding) that's a no=decision decision, in effect sending the case back to a ruling by

federal judge vaughn walker three years ago. he ruled that proposition 8 unconstitutional. but there are enough generate a new round of appeals. all they way back to, you guessed it, the supreme court. >> catherine: today the supreme court tossed out an arizona law that requires proof of citizenship when someone is registering to vote. the law - known as prop 200 - was passed by voters in 2004. state leaders say it was a sensible precaution to prevent voter fraud. but the high court ruled that it interferes with a 1993 federal law designed to make voter registration easier. four other states have similar requirements. and 12 other states are requiring that type of legislation. >> in the george zimmerman 2nd-degree murder trial in florida - more potential jurors were asked today to come back for a second round of questioning. attorneys wants a pool of 40 people. zimmerman is charged with killing 17-year-old trayvon martin last year. he argues it was self- defense after martin attacked him. potential jurors today were sharing their thoughts.and were being asked what they remember about the case from media reports. you'll hear their voices. the judge won't let them be photographed.

learned that bulger was an fbi informant for a time. he's a star witness in the trial and is expected to offer a lot of details on bulger's criminal history. >> a passenger aboard a united airlines flight from hong kong to newark has been taken to the hospital after claiming fellow travelers had been poisoned. the flight landed safely as scheduled in newark, and the f-b-i says the passenger was taken off the plane and transported to hospital. you can see officials escorting the passenger off the plane here. the f-b-i said no charges had been filed, and the c- d-c cleared the plane. the airline says the crew followed procedures and got the person under control. authorities are still looking into the poisoning claim. >>temperatures were cooler zero to there today. here are the highs. low 80s for

attempted kidnapping. >> it's scary, i dont know what to say. >> pam: tonight, pacifica police looking for your help in the search for a suspect. police in pacifica say they need help in the search for a suspect in the attempted kidnapping of a child. here's the latest. the person approached a 10- year-old girl near beach boulevard and santa rosa avenue. but she was able to get away by punching him. police searched the area, but were never able to find the suspect. kron-4's maureen kelly spoke with officers who say, this search is nowhere close to being over. >> reporter: police say the child had just left some family members fishing here on the pacfiica pier at around 430 sunday afternoon and was walking towards her mother who was parked in this parking lot right hereshe was about halfway when a stranger man came up and talked to her. >> essentially telling her that she was coming with him.and when she refused he tried to physically restrain hershe punched him in the stomach.and was able to run away.

he died due to complications of cancer. the coroner says ramirez had b-cell lymphoma, which is a blood cancer of the lymph nodes. the coroner also says ramirez had substance abuse issues as well as a severe case of hepatitis c. but research says b-cell lymphoma is treatable with radiation at a seventy percent cure rate -- even in the disease's later stages. no word whether doctors diagnosed it before his death ten days ago. pam? >> pam: detailed testimony today. in the richmond rape case. two defendants are on trial. for their alleged part in a gang rape. on the richmond high school campus during a homecoming dance in 2009. today, we learned about the brutal injuries to the victim from the attack kron 4's justine waldman was in court and has the very latest. >> reporter: the trauma nurse who examined the victim, right after the assault, took the stand on monday. nurse anna rae said the victim, jane doe, said it was too painful to complete the evidence collection portion of the rape exam.

the nurse went over all the injuries she noted on the victim starting with bruises on her face, eyes, ears, and jaw. cuts and bruises on her arms. multiple abrasions on her legs and feet. the nurse also testified the 16 year old victim complained of so much pain in her private areas she could only do part of the exam there. the nurse told the jury many of the injuries to the outside of the victims body were consistant with blunt force trauma and being dragged. we also saw pictures of the victims brutal injuries. the nurse saying the photographs don't do the pictures justice. the two defendants 20-year- old marcelles peter and 22- year-old jose montano. both stared at them, and did not have much of a reaction. the nurse also testified she asked the victim if she had consumed any drugs or alcohol the night of the

attack the nurse said the victim admitted to drinking brandy with men at the picnic table earlier in the day, when the victim took the stand she said she did not remember drinking that night. the trial continues on tuesday. at the courthouse in martinez justine waldman kron 4 news. >> pam: today is the first day of opening statements in the trial of the man dubbed - "the alphabet killer" -- joseph naso. detailed some of the evidence against him. a number of spectators were there wanting to see naso -- who has become quite infamous. he is acting as his own attorney. kron-4's terisa estacio, was in the courtroom. when naso delivered his opening statement. >> reporter: this is accussed serial killer joseph naso. naso who is representing himself began his openning arguments in the death penalty case against him by calling the jury a welcoming sight. saying he is pleased to explain who he really is. he also lashed out at the prosecution calling their case against him a character assisination. often during naso's long

>> pam: domestic violence was the motive behind the first homicide of the year in morgan hill over the weekend. according to police. police arrested this man, 61-year-old michael sheppard. in the death of his 46-year- old girlfriend, whose name was not immediately released. her semi- nude body was discovered by a passer-by near the railroad tracks, just north of main street. the couple lived at the nearby morgan hill apartments and trailer park. on monterey road. before her death, police believe the couple had argued over what were described as 'fidelity issues'. a neighbor described sheppard as a 'ticking time bomb.' >> his anger really got to have met. and his anger took over, you know. >> reporter: the d.c. a.m. express that anger? >> yes, to me, and other temperatures in the park.

they could possibly also add an assault charge and he is charged with murder. >> pam: a police chase in el sobrante this morning. ended with two contra county sheriff's department squad cars on fire. and no suspect under arrest. the incident started a little after 3 a-m, at olinda road and castro ranch road, when a deputy saw a black lexus driving with no lights on. that's when the chase started. the suspect got on southbound -80 toward berkeley, and took the university exit. then drove through the brush to get back on the freeway. the squad cars didn't make it, got stuck and sparked a fire which ended up catching both cars on fire. no one was injured, but the driver of the black lexus may face charges. anyone with information on the vehicle or its driver. is asked to call the contra county sheriff's department. >> beauty has several new city buses but it did not go quite as planned. mayor ed lee was on site but this new
