>>james: top stories we are following for you on this monday, june 24th. we are just hours away from the supreme court posting their latest round of opinions on their website and we are waiting to find out if prop eight will be on that list today. plus, gas prices are dropping around the bay area. we'll take a look at some of the latest numbers coming in this morning. and we are watching the weather this morning as we take a live look outside at the approach to the bay bridge toll plaza. starting things off in the weather center this morning. rain is here >>erica: a little bit of

light rain approaching. as you can see, that is a pretty decent amount of grain heading our way. we did see scattered showers overnight and a lot of precipitation did not reach the ground. so it looks like it will rain for the first half of your morning commute. all we could actually you may encounter a few sprinkles but nothing to be concerned about. looking ahead at the next couple of days. mostly cloudy, with a few showers in the forecast period mainly dry during the afternoons. brain will return overnight heading into tomorrow with on and off a rain. looking ahead, a warming trend with temperatures in the '90s for the next several days. we

if prop 8 is knocked down. the city attorney says same- sex marriages could resume by late july. tomorrow could be the day. this week, the u-s supreme court is expected to issue it's decision on proposition 8. the state-wide voter- approved ban on same-sex marriage. the ruling could come down tomorrow or thursday. when a decision is large crowds are expected to or thursday. san francisco city attorney dennis herrera is scheduled to hold a news confered almost immediately after the announcement. herrera serves as co-counsel for the plantiffs on this case. the supreme court takes the bench at seven in theto allow people to take to kron four's alecia reid spoke with a local attorney who breaks down how the justices may rule.

six that's when police say four black males in a green lexus pulled up, got out of the car and confronted her. they tried to convince her to get in the car. eventually one of the suspects grabbed her arm to try and get her in the car. that's when she broke free and ran to a nearby park. anyone with information is asked to call police. opening statements begin today in the murder trial of george zimmerman. zimmerman is the former florida neighborhood watch volunteer who says he shot and killed 17-year-old trayvon martin in self- defense. jurors will be sequestered, which the prosecution and eliminate jurors' exposure to outside influences. they'll be able to read newspapers that have been censored of anything dealing with the case. zimmerman is expected to appear in court today, we'll bring that to you live starting at six a-m. watching gas price this morning. the average u-s

behind the wheel is said to be responsible for a car crash in san jose that resulted in a fire that burned two homes. kron4's maureen kelly reports that there were even younger kids joyriding inside the stolen vehicle. >> it was pretty intense. the and >> reporter: density of the fire is because of the car severed the gas lines of old homes. that was a big problem for firefighters. they had to let the fire burned for about half an hour until but they had the equipment they need it to shed the gas off underground. otherwise caught up, it could have been an explosion. sunday afternoon smoke could be seen coming out of the collapsed roof of the one home that was completely destroyed. that caught fire

fighters to come back out and reinspect the property. the courthouse was partially damaged. you can see how the garages now caved in. luckily, all the residents were able to get out safely. one firefighter at one of the kids and a car suffered minor injuries. the driver was booked into juvenile hall and the rest of the kids inside were released into the custody of their guardians. neighbors here still can't understand how kit so york could be the cause us so much destruction. maureen kelly kron 4 news. >>james:part of the central coast spent the night in the dark because of a power outage. p-g-and-e reported outages to about 145-thousand customers last night. power has since been restored in the area that stretched from san luis obispo to santa barbara. the utility company says equipment failure at a substation caused the

former south african president nelson mandela is reported to be in deteriorating condition. the 94-year-old is still in critical condition this morning. south african president jacob zuma went to visit mandela at a hospital sunday night. mandela has been in the hospital since june 8th for what the government said was a recurring lung infection. emmy award winning actor james gandolfini -- famous for his role on the sopranos -- will be buried on thursday. gandolfini's family say a public funeral service will be held for the actor. who died of a heart attack last wednesday. the service will be held inside a manhattan cathedral church. gandolfini was in italy last week for a film festival, where he was going to participate in a master class event before receiving a special award.

a sweet comeback for twinkies when the products return to store shelves next month. the company plans to have twinkies and other snack cakes on shelves starting july 15th. twinkies went bankrupt following a dispute with its union workers last year. now, the company is under new ownership and a leaner structure. twinkies says while the cakes will taste the same, the boxes will now bear the tag line "the sweetest comeback in the history of ever." starbucks wants a few extra pennies for that latte. the seattle-based coffee company says it's hiking prices on average by 1 percent nationally starting tuesday. but it says the price for many drinks, such as medium and large brewed coffees and frappuccinos, won't change in most of its 11,000 u.s. cafes. depending on the market, starbucks corp. notes it's the first price hike most customers will see in about two years. the price hike comes despite falling coffee costs that have boosted the company's profits. in the last quarter, starbucks cited lower coffee costs for
