>> for the gunshots were heard shortly after midnight. police and fire crews found the man in his 20s and he was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead. no suspects have been arrested. >> no decision has been made on same-sex marriage from the u.s. supreme court, but a ruling could come this morning. the san francisco city attorney says, whether the court rules in favor or against prop eight -- there will be a 25-day period before the court's final decision is entered into the records. that time allows both sides to file a petition for a re-hearing.

experts believe that no matter what justices decide, california will soon have same sex marriages. the justices will be releasing their rulings for the day at 7 this morning. and the supreme court has has already ruled on more than 20 cases this month. and the is slated to announce a number of other major decisions before the current session ends. some of the case include the ruling that d-n-a samples can be taken from people arrested with probable cause in felony cases, even without a warrant. and also the court declined to make a broad ruling on the validity of affirmative action. instead the justices sent the case back to a lower court for additional review. however -- the u.s. supreme court has alreaady ruled on more than 20 cases this month. and the court is slated to announce a number of other major decisions before the current session ends. kron 4's charles clifford has details.

this june the supreme court has issued rulings or acted on 22 cases. here are some of their biggest decisions: earlier this month, the justices ruled that dna samples can be taken from people arrested with probable cause in felony cases, even without a warrant. on june 16th, the court ruled that naturally occurring human dna can not be patented by drug companies. last week, the justices invalidated arizona's proof of citizenship requirement for voters. they said that federal voting regulations over ride state laws the supreme court also decided that financial agreements between name drug companies and generic competitors can be legally challenged. and earlier today, the court declined to make a broad ruling on the validity of affirmative action. instead the justices sent the case back to a lower court for additional review. now, there are three big cases that court has yet to act on. it's believed that the justices may finally decide the fate of california's prop 8, in which marriage was defined as being between one woman and one man. they could also decided if the defense of marriage act, or doma, is un-constitutional and a ruling is possible on the fate of 1965 voting rights act, in which some states are required to get federal permission to change their voting laws. in the newsroom, charles clifford kron 4 news. keep it tuned here to kron four as we continue to follow the latest out of washington with the supreme court rulings. rulings are expected to come down starting at seven this morning. we will bring you updates all morning long here on the kron four morning news. we will also be providing updates on our 24-seven bay area news channel, kron- four-dot-com, as well as our facebook and twitter feeds. we are following the latest with bart. as the union will
