>> bart is one step closer this morning to a complete shut down. the union members voted, and the vote was unanimous to authorize a strike. and that could cause a traffic mess for commuters starting monday morning. .seem fair negotiations continue behind closed doors with both sides acknowledging they are far apart on any type of compromise. bart management says that the union wants a 23- percent increase in salary and refuses to pay more in healthcare or pay anything into the pension costs. union members say the situation is more complicated than that. they say safety for themselves and bart riders is their primary issue and they are demanding improvements. the union must issue a 72- hour advance warning if it does plan to strike. the contract expires this weekend so there is not much time left to let the public know if bart will keep rolling. and >> >> the two sides still rate

>> for president obama and the first lady are in senegal, south africa. they were greeted by president sall earlier this morning. the obamas are set to meet with leaders from government, business and civil society. a few objectives of the trip include reinforcing u- s commitment to expanding economic growth, investment, and strengthening democratic institutions. at a press conference earlier this morning, president obama addressed gay the marriage ruling, calling it a victory for us democracy, recognition should cross state lines. later this afternoon, president obama will tour a slave house museum at goree island. later in the evening, he'll attend an official dinner with president macky sall. >> darya >> it was a historic day for the supreme court yesterday as they struck down prop 8 and the defense of marriage act. this prop 8 decision is the

ruling that most legal experts predicted. the supreme court cleared the way for same sex marriage to resume in california in a 4 to 5 decision. the majority of the justices said that supporters of prop 8 did not have the right to appeal a lower courts ruling. they also said the majority of prop 8 supporters were not able to show how they were harmed by same sex marriage. this means gay marriage is expected to resume in california in 25 days. the supreme court did not make a broad ruling about whether banning same sex marriage is constitutional. that could have had a more wide ranging impact across the country. >> mark >> there was a huge turnout for the celebration in san francisco's castro district for the rally was organized by a coalition advocacy groups including "marriage equality usa, "march-for-

equality", and "unite here local 2" kron 4 caught up with supporters of same sex marriage who say the breath of fresh air after so ."freedom." this weekend -- the biggest gay pride celebration in the country is happening in san francisco. this is video from last year's festivities. large crowds are expected to come out and celebrate. the two-day celebration will take place at san francisco's civic center plaza. sunday. >> darya >> the defense is expected to continue its cross- examination of a key witness in the florida trial of a former neighborhood watch volunteer accused of killing an unarmed teen. rachel jeantel was on the phone with trayvon martin shortly before he was fatally shot by george zimmerman. jeantel testified that martin said he was being followed by zimmerman and tried to evade him. she says she heard martin shout "get off! twice before the call ended.

this morning. traders are focusing on the positive and that pushed the major wall street stock indexes higher yesterday for a second straight day. it's the first two-day stretch of gains since the federal reserve gave a timetable for throttling back its economic stimulus a week ago. here's a look at the closing numbers. the dow jones jumped 150 points to close at 14,910. the nasdaq closed up 28 points, ending the day at 3,376. the s and p rose 15 points, closing at 1,603. south africa's nelson mandela. 94- year old mandela is widely considered the father of modern south africa. that nations current

>> a florida businessman who says he was held hostage by his own workers in china has been freed. chip starnes, co-founder and president of specialty medical supplies china, says he'd been unable to leave the company's beijing factory since friday. here you see him earlier this week. starnes says workers barricaded all the exits and hindered his sleep by banging on doors and windows, but he says they did not physically hurt him. but now starnes has reached an agreement with the workers after a pay dispute. officials said 97 employees signed a new compensation agreement. >> mark >> today, the u-s senate could vote on immigration reform in the u-s illegally. the bill's backers are hoping to change minds in the house.

>> mark >> the government is fining delta airlines, 750-thousand dollars, for bumping some passengers involuntarily, without offering compensation or seeking volunteers first. the transportation department says delta has a widespread practice of non- compliance in how it handles bumped customers. delta says the incidents were isolated and that it has been training employees in how to handle overbooked flights. delta was fined 375-thousand dollars back in 2009 for similar violations. >> darya

>> borrowers with poor math skills made up a higher percentage of homeowners in foreclosure during the housing bust than those who were skilled at arithmetic. that's according to a new study which found math- challenged borrowers were five times more likely to default on their loans. the study examined several hundred borrowers who held mortgages issued in 2006 and 2007 -- right before the mortgage meltdown. 25-percent of the borrowers who scored in the lowest bracket for math skills had defaulted on mortgage payments within five years of getting the loans. only five-percent of those in the top tier for math skills defaulted. >> mark >> 7-million college students will likely have to pay more for their loans come july first. congress is working on a deal to prevent a 100 percent hike in subsudized student loan interest rates. but a final agreement probably won't come until after lawmakers return from the july fourth recess. if so, the plan is expected to apply retroactively so
