anticipation of this, i just spoke caltran spokesperson who has an update on the extra car pool lanes hours. we have just confirmed that this is true for interstate 80 and the bay bridge that they will be extended from 5:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. under consideration is extended the car pool hours for 580, 684880. they will watch that through the day but it's quite possible that we will see those hours extended. bear in mind, those four freeways are the freeways of that parallel bart track. that is likely were you see the heaviest increase in traffic as people would normally be commuting those rules. also highway 24 is likely to see heavier than usual traffic along with the caldecott tunnel. for your trip to the

everyone is getting the message. already this morning, a handful of commuters showed up and i have had to explain to them that bart employees are on strike. they get panicky little bit but fortunately, they were able to cross over the bay bridge, get into their own cars and cross over the bay bridge before traffic got too bad. this area will be busy throughout the day. no passengers to pick up from the taxis but this is one of the busiest locations for casual car pool. a program that has been around for more than 30 years to help perfect strangers to get across the bay bridge. it is very simple. you wait in line and drivers pull up, pick you up and had over the bay bridge. of course in the car pool lanes, drivers can take you to the civic center or to downtown san francisco. it is a very in formal program.

going to put extra ticket holders out here to help accommodate the increase in the crowds that are expected to take the ferry since there isn't any bart service today. you are able to use your clipper card and more people are on staff to accommodate. i want to let you listen to some people who we have been talking to because many of them don't normally take the ferry. this is their plan to be. >> i thought this would be best option. since we commute together, he might as well drop me off pretty normally drops me off at bart and goes to work. i can walk to work from the ferry building. >>justine: obviously she is hoping she could take a bar

that it reaches the back here all the way to the 880 over crossing. of course, one of the concerns as i was talking to mark, a lot of the folks that would normally be using bart probably don't have fasttrack which will put a lot of extra pressure on the attached lanes. --cash lanes. they are going to put people at all of the cash to boost at 4:00 a.m. so all of them will be open. we had a brief-judge a brief shot here. you can see it is not only on the left side of the toll plaza, but also the right side that is backing up for that westbound ride. you can see here already delays at the westbound bay bridge. the san mateo bridge and you're right for highway 92, only at modest increase in volume here. we don't

expect this bridge to be quite as heavy as the bay bridge but it is likely that we will see an increase here as well. the golden gate still a pretty but that judge pretty easy but foggy ride. the drive time here is still pretty good. 14 minutes from hercules to berkeley. south bay freeway still look good. not likely to be heavily impacted by the bart strike. no. they ride delay free. about down to the golden gate bridge. >>erica: i do want to talk about public transit. ac transit doing their part. there was some talk about the possibility of them going on strike but that is definitely not the case. the instead have extended their

four--contract. you can catch any of the letter of buses that will get you into san francisco. most of those buses run every 30 minutes during the coming hours. early morning and later on into the afternoon. to try and get additional buses, additional seating and addition to that, at broadway terminal, they are trying to get buses running every three to five amendments. for those of you trying to get to the airport on the peninsula side, i did check-in with caltran. sfo already doing their part offering free shuttle service from the cal train stop to sfo. a free service three chartered buses will be provided to get to to the airport. as we focus on whether or around the bay

area, excessive heat. a heat marty is in effect for the next couple of days. that includes all of the inland spot separate half of the bay area will be comfortable and the other half we are talking a scorcher. temperatures well into the triple digits. looks like temperatures can range anywhere from 100 to 113 degrees. keep this in mind if you have any heat related illnesses. better news is cooler weather is on the way by the end of the week. today's forecast, by 12:00, all that red and case temperatures in the '90s. a triple digits will start to feel and by afternoon highs. you can see the appearance of the purple on your screen print. breaking down afternoon highs, evergreen at 101, low 90s expected and mountain view. antioch

>> and good morning the time is 5:46 a.m.. the traffic is already backed up this morning. >> it is actually not a good morning for the bay bridge. we are already backed up with to the macarthur mayes. even though you see this opening, the metering lights have already been activated for about 15 minutes. 880 is already backed up over the toll plaza. 580 is backed up all the way to highway 24.

24 is also backing the special approach the macarthur mayes. i think we may have an overhead shot with our partnership with abc 7 news. this is coming down in the westbound direction. you could see that we are back up to the bart station. carpool hours at the bay bridge will be extended. this will be on all five bridges but the bay bridge will only be active to 7:00 p.m.. they're trying to get this worked out so that all the major corridors can carry. caltran is working on this right

now. >> the san mateo bridge has no extra traffic right now. the golden gate bridge is still delay free across the span 1101 in the southbound direction. here is a look at the east shore corridor interstate 80. the traffic is already backing up leading west towards highway 4. it is slow from willow. this is the area that i am talking about. 680 south bound is starting to slow leading into walnut creek. this is a another corridor we expect to see more car traffic. the westward trip on interstate 580 so far the dublin grave is clear. it is

still an easy ride for south bay freeway. >> here is an update for some alternates that are available for you. >> here is a look a.c. transit first. this is probably most people will take. you can't use any of these elector buses.letter buse. generally, these buses run every 30 minutes. once these buses leave that will go across the bridge where we are already seeing a back up that will drop you off at the temporary station. also, at twentieth and broadway you can catch the bus. this will drop you off in the city. and bart also has a charter buses in place. this is a part of the contingency

plan any time they go strike. these buses on will be free and that will drive people off outside of the area. you can catch these buses from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.. you really should not count on this because this is a free service. these are some of the options for you. >> we are talking extremely heat or around the bay area. the warm response will bwarmus n the inland area. we do have a heat advisory in affect. it's taken a look at the bay bridge, brent will be at a

people are getting around now that bart is no longer an option today. one of the options that are available is the ferry. kron4 justine waldman is live at a jack london square with an update on the ferry service. >> they started to get in line at about 5:00 a.m. this morning and the first ferry is not scheduled to leave a 6:00 a.m. and that is what you are watching people boarding. they do have extra ferries that our scheduled. we do have a video that we receive to show you the people that are waiting in line. we estimate that it will be hundreds waited in line. if you do plan to take the ferry there are some delays expected because theyxper ship. you can play with your clipper card but they are asking for you not to part
