morning. .with picket signs. the union went on strike this morning at 12-01am. for the first time in 16 years. forcing hundreds of thousands of commuters to find alternate ways of getting in and around the bay area -- and costing the bay area an estimated 73- million dollars a day, according to the bay area council economic institute. and the strike is creating a traffic nightmare throughout the bay area. more cars on the road, and more time needed to get where you need to go. here are the details on alternatives for commuters. with the thousands of additional drivers on the roads, we asked 5-1-1 -dot- org for tips. to start, the website says, if telecommuting is an option, take it. otherwise, avoid travelling all together. if possible. if you can't do that. authorities recommend you form a carpool or try casual carpooling. adjust your work hours to help ease the nightmare commute. 5-1-1-dot-org also says, if you live close enough, you may want to ride your bike. if not, allow for extra time on your commute.
