offset i thought i was going to die it's been two days since a fiery plane crash at san francisco international airport. a crash that killed two young girls and injured nearly 200 others. we'll bring you the latest on the investigation coming up. and we're keeping an eye on bay area weather as we could in our forecast. good morning, im anny hong. and i'm james fletcher. we will continue to track the latest with the deadly asiana airline crash that left two dead and many wounded. is with

canberrabut first lets check in with erica kato for an update on our weather forecast. as the investigation continues in the deadly asiana airlines crash over the weekend, we are learning new details this morning. we now know the name of the pilot behind the wheel at the time of the crash. lee kang-kuk had only 43 hours of flying time experience in a boeing triple-7 and it was his first time landing that type of plane at s-f-o. there were 307 people on board asiana flight 214 coming in from seoul. two people were killed. both of them teenage girls from china. the coroner's office now

probing if one of the girls was killed after being run over by a rescue vehicle. of the surviving victims, at least 180 people were taken to several bay area hospitals. this is cell-phone video of the crash as it happened. you can see the plane approaching the runway when the tail end makes contact with the ground. from that point it continues to skid down the runway and eventually comes to as top in the dirt median. federal safety officials say the pilots of asiana flight 214 were flying too slowly as they approached san francisco airport on saturday. it triggered a warning that the jetliner could stall. that's when the crew tried seconds before crashing. crash. you can see in detail the sequence of events as they happened. adlib animation. kron4's dan kerman has been closely monitoring the n-t- crash. he has the the latest details from the agency's press conference yesterday afternoon. seventeen asiana flight 214 victims remain at san

francisco general hospital this morning. the hospital received 53 patients including children after saturday's crash. right now, 5 adults and one condition. hospital officials say the most serious injuries were severe head trauma, spinal fractures that included paralysis, and abdominal injuries that caused internal bleeding, and lucile packard children's hospital has discharged all seven minors crash victims. the minors were among the 55 patients brought to stanford saturday. right now, 10 people remain hospitalized with 2 in critical condition and 8 in either fair or good condition. stanford was one of nearly a dozen bay area hospitals to take patients from the crash. a san franciso resident ben levy was a passenger aboard asiana flight 214. he says he is still recovering from all that has happened. levy spoke with kron4 news about the events that took place on saturday. levy's wife was supposed to be on flight 2-14, but decided to fly home early.

looks like clear skies and you can definitely see the stars out there. futurecast for tracking the temperatures throughout the day. take a look at this. not much warming into the 12:00 hour so by lunch time looks like we will be in the '60s inside the bay for the east bay shoreline for cities like san mateo. some communities will reach a low 90s however most of the east bay under 80 indicating that is indicated by the horns. putting the clock into motion looks like 60 so temperatures will drop by 8:00 p.m. tonight. taking a closer look at her afternoon highse south bay, santa clara with 83 degrees, 84 slated for campbell. low 90s are to the land for the east bay anterior spots. 91 for those of you and fairfield and upper 80s and walnut creek. downtown's san francisco with a high of 66 degrees in just a few degrees warmer

and berkeley. in terms of your extended forecast, your 7 day around the bay indicates pretty quiet weather. we're talking morning fog with afternoon sunshine, temperatures upper 80s and land as we headed to saturday and sunday. on to the traffic desk, not looking at any hot spots. i am seeing a few minor incidents but really nothing to slow you down. traffic should be pretty good at the bay bridge but remember the bart strike is all for now so i don't think you have to allow yourself any extra time out of oakland and san francisco. so far so good just a handful of cars working their way to the toll plaza and looking to be a typical ride to the san mateo bridge. southbound 101 at the golden gate bridge still seen a lot of space in between cars with a little bit of patchy fog but to drive times is unaffected. taking over to your traffic map to concede all was well for the east bay with westphal 58 under that green. i happen check-in with the chp and we all have

>>anny:the george zimmerman trial enters its third week today -- with the defense making its case for the former neighborhood watch volunteer. as george howell reports, friday brought family members to the stand - to try and explain a critical piece of evidence. a rare moment of emotion from george zimmerman in the courtroom, as this week's testimony could see more family on the stand to testify on his behalf. friday, zimmerman was visibly affected listening to his uncle explain when he heard those highly scrutinized screams for help, on a 911 audio tape. >>"i said, that is george! and i stood up, and i looked at the tv." also, zimmerman's mother >>"do you know who's voice that was screaming in the background? yes sir. and

who's voice was that? my son george. and are you certain of that. because he's my son." it was a day of dueling testimonies between mothers. gladys zimmerman testified "after" sybrina fulton told the court what "she heard" before the fatal shot that killed her son. "ma'am, that screaming, that yelling in the background, do you recognize that? yes. and who do you recognize that to be? trayvon benjamin martin." martin's older brother - jahvaris fulton - also testified the screams were from his brother. but in cross examination, fulton was put on the spot for once telling a reporter he "wasn't positive" about who was screaming, only to later conclude it was trayvon martin. for most of day 9 - jurors listened to the medical examiner who did the autopsy on martin. >>"i believe he was alive for one to 10 minutes after he was shot." but when challenged by the defense - dr. shiping bao admitted he only recently reached that opinion. just three weeks earlier, he said he thought martin

was alive only 1 to 3 minutes after the shooting. defense attorneys also pointed out how bao's team may have mishandled, and even damaged some evidence. when asked to recall specifics about the autopsy - there was this. >>"i do not have any recall. i do not have any memory of the day of autopsy." attorney mark o'mara asked the judge to acquit his client, after the state rested its case, arguing prosecutors had not proven second-degree murder. judge debra nelson denied that motion. the motion for judgment of >> acquittal are denied. putting the defense on deck, as this trial moves into week three. george howell, cnn, sanford, florida. >>james:in quebec, officials say two more bodies have been found following a train derailment and explosion. here's video of the scene. five people were killed when a train carrying crude oil derailed. killing five people and igniting explosions and fires that

destroyed a downtown community center. police say 40 people are still unaccounted for. but that number could fluctuate as the investigation continues. >>anny:thirty four people have been killed in an attack outside the headquarters of the republican guard in cairo. the egyptian health ministry say 300 people were also injured in shooting outside the building. earlier, military officials had said gunmen killed at least five supporters of the former president and one officer when people tried to storm the building. >>james:president raul castro is expressing solidarity with the willingness to take in n-s-a leaker edward snowden. castro says cuba supports the "sovereign right" of venezuela and other states in the region to grant asylum to "those persecuted for their ideals." but there's no immediate word on whether he would be willing to offer safe haven to snowden, or to play a role in his transit to a third country such as nicaragua or bolivia. castro spoke yesterday before parliament, but his speech has not yet been fully transmitted.

>>james: welcome back. taking a look at wall street this morning. futures trading shows all three indexes in the positive this morning. traders begin a new week after deciding on friday that a healthy job market matters more than the federal reserve scaling back its economic status. here's a look at how the numbers closed friday. the dow rose 147 points ending the day at 15,135. the nasdaq also climbed 65 points closing at 3,479. and the s and p 500 was up 16 points ending the day at 1,631. we'll be watching the stock markets all morning long here on the kron four morning news starting at 6:30 with the opening bell. >>anny:hiring is exploding in the u.s. when it comes to temporary jobs. government records show the number of temps has jumped more than 50 percent since the recession ended four years ago - the most on

government records dating to 1990. hiring is always healthy for an economy. yet the rise in temp and contract work shows that many employers aren't willing to hire for the long run. temps typically receive low pay, few benefits and scant job security. that makes them less likely to spend freely, so temp jobs don't tend to boost the economy the way permanent jobs do. >>james:as part of the sequester, or federal spending cuts, 650-thousand defense employees start furloughs today civilian defense workers will be forced to take one unpaid day off each week, leading to a 20-percent reduction in their pay through september 21st. the furloughs don't affect those on active military duty, intelligence officers, navy shipyard builders, army firefighters and foreign nationals. it is expected to save the agency 1-point-8 billion dollars, a small part of the 40- billion dollars that defense has to cut.

sunnyvale 82 degrees in downtown san francisco today staying in the upper 60s. 70 degrees and san bruno and low eighties for redwood city. just turn our attention to the north bay if you are heading to the wine country, 884 napa so very pleasant conditions and not only today but for the next couple of days. we are only going to see subtle changes into the forecast so expect morning fog, afternoon sunshine with temperatures just above the seasonal average. more on your wit are coming up in just 10 minutes right now let's take a look at traffic. reminder that the bart strike is currently off so i don't expect an increase in traffic here at the bay bridge. a lot of people will be committing be a public transit system of the bridges so all is well here. just a handful of cars

>>anny:teresa heinz-kerry was flown to massachusetts general hospital last night after doctors on nantucket island stabilized her. its not known why she is being treated. in late 2009, heinz kerry was being treated for breast cancer. >>james:as we continue our coverage of the deadly crash at s-f-o over the weekend. here is another look at the scene of the accident. on the left you can see medics assisting victims of the crash, they are laid out on the median grass area near the crash site. on the right is a picture of people using the emergency slides to exit the plane following the crash. you can see dust is still in the air as this picture was taken shortly after the collision.

federal safety officials say the pilots of asiana flight 214 were flying too slowly as they approached san francisco airport on saturday. it triggered a warning that the jetliner could stall, and then tried to abort the landing seconds before crashing. >>anny:the n-t-s-b has begun its investigation into the deadly crash. it will take the agency months to determine the cause, but they've already released some details from

their preliminary assessment. they say a routine landing turned into a disaster in a matter of seconds. the cockpit voice recorder appears to show pilots tried to abort their landing less than two seconds before the crash. "a call from one of the crew members to increase speed was made approximately seven seconds prior to impact. the sound of the stick shaker occurs approximately four seconds prior to impact. a call to initiate a go around occurred 1.5 seconds before

impact. i would discourage anyone from drawing any conclusions at this point." the "stick shaker" is a physical warning where the throttle shakes with a verbal warning that the plane is about to stall. investigators say they have to corroborate the information on the flight data recorder and the cockpit voice recorder before they can determine the cause of the crash. so far they have already ruled out weather as a factor in the crash but are not blaming the pilots. the veteran pilot flying the plane has flown from korea to san francisco several times, but it was his first time landing a boeing triple-7 there. new this morning. south korea says it will inspect the engines and landing equipment on all boeing 7- 7-7 planes owned by asiana and korea air.
