protests in oakland get ""out of control"" as dozens are arrested last night. and a juror in the george zimmerman trial is speaking out. what she had to say about the verdict, coming up. good morning i'm anny hong. and i'm james fletcher. crowds of protesters are breaking storefront windows and clashing with police in downtown oakland this morning after hundreds of protesters gathered in response to the acquittal of george zimmerman. this is video of the protests from our helicopter partnership with a-b-c seven news. oakland police attempted to redirect the crowd of at least 250 protesters when they began lighting off fireworks and smashing glass windows on telegraph avenue.

the protests briefly blocked traffic on interstate 880. so far, nine people have been arrested. the rally began last night around six at the frank ogawa plaza. here is what one protester had to say during that rally. late last night protesters attempted to stop traffic on interstate 580 but were blocked by police. other confrontations between protesters and police happened throughout oakland, including at the courthouse and downtown. one of the six women who found george zimmerman "not guilty" has decided to come forward to explain how the jury came to its decision. as andrew spencer reports. the woman -- known only as juror b-37 -- says coming to a verdict was not easy. that juror said she and her husband were considering writing a book about her experiences on the jury. they have since decided not

to do so. one of the prosecution's star witnesses in the george zimmerman murder trial is reacting to saturday's "not guilty" verdict. rachel jeantel was on the phone with trayvon martin at the start of his fatal confrontation with zimmerman began. now she's giving her first interview after the verdict to c-n-n's "piers morgan" she said martin was never aggressive -- describing martin as a calm, loving person who loved his family and was a good friend. she dismissed the idea that the case had no racial dimension. jeantel acknowledged that martin smoked marijuana, but said it did not make him quote "go crazy." >>james:now to the latest on the crash of asiana flight 214. the n-t-s-b is closing its *on-scene command post at s-f-o. investigators have finished their examination of the wreckage and runway. the wreckage will still be

available for more testing if necessary. it will be locked up in a secure location on airport property. meanwhile. blood centers in san francisco are working together to host a blood drive in honor of the victims. the stanford blood center and "the blood centers of the pacific" are joining forces.. the blood collected will help both centers replenish their supplies.

it's been nearly a week and there's still no sign of a little girl missing from oakland. her family says daphne webb was last seen in her father's s-u-v last wednesday. kron-4's maureen kelly says police are now trying to pinpoint what daphne and her father were doing in the minutes before the crime.

a small earthquake struck the south bay yesterday. it measured three-point- four centered about nine miles northeast of san jose. the quake struck on the calaveras fault at a depth of about five miles. damage or injuries. morning news. began to cloud the conditions once again. the cool average expect a for a lot of locations. will be right back after the break.

for 14 is the time. it seems the country last month saw one of the warmest and wettest junes on record. the nation averaged 3-point- 43 inches of rain last month. the national wether service says that is the 13th wettest june on record in the u-s. eighteen states, from georgia to maine, posted record rainfall totals. last month was also the 15th warmest june on record. that hot weather caused big problems for the western half of the country. as four-thousand wildfires burned more than one million acres. >>anny: here is their cover with more on the forecast. >>ere using their windshield wipers this morning because it is areas of drizzle. thanks to all that cloudiness, we will see limited heating today. temperatures will be as warm today. as we head into

tomorrow, expect warmer conditions with a mostly sunny skies and a continuing warming trend as we transition into the weekend. pretty breezy conditions along the delta. fairfield reporting a 12 mi. per hour winds. futurecast for tracking temperatures for you. by lunchtime, take a look at all of that blue. something we generally don't see in july, but that indicates temperatures predominately in the '50s by lunchtime. some of the warmer communities will be in the '60s and again, the cloud cover will lakers throughout the day. putting the clock into motion, but your afternoon highs, looks like some blue will disappear and we will start to see more green shade indicating '60s. warmest communities predominantly in the '70s and perhaps a few low 80s. by 8:00 p.m. tonight, called will make a comeback and it looks like temperatures will drop back down into '50's and low 60s. i do want to break down

>>james:jodi arias returns to court today, as her attorneys ask the judge to drop the jury's decision that the killing of her boyfriend was "especially cruel." arias was convicted of first-degree murder on may eighth in the death of travis alexander. about two weeks later, the same jury failed to reach a unanimous decision on whether to sentence arias to life in prison or death. while her murder conviction stands, the judge declared a mistrial of the penalty phase. prosecutors say they are preparing to try again for the death penalty with a new jury. >>anny:newly hired brooklyn nets coach jason kidd returns to court today on a d-w-i charge.

kidd was arrested back on july 15, 2012 for smashing his cadillac s-u-v into a telephone pole in the hamptons. police say kidd smelled of alcohol and his eyes were bloodshot red and glassy. kidd was the only person in the vehicle and suffered minor injuries in the crash. he has pleaded not guilty to kidd retired last season as an n-b-a player and was hired to coach the nets. >>james:senators are preparing for a potentially rancorous day today as democrats say they may change filibuster rules to keep republicans from blocking white house nominees for top executive jobs. several senate votes are scheduled to test whether republicans will allow simple-majority confirmations of a handful of the president's long- stalled nominations. majority leader harry reid proposes to end the ability of 41 senators in the 100- member chamber to block action on white house nominations other than judges. >>anny:a 22-year-old man has been sentenced to a year in prison for stealing the identities and passwords of more than 700 fellow

as we drive down the golden gate bridge and out of marin county. we do have some clout in place they just aren't as low as what we saw yesterday. some areas of drizzle along the coast line so you may need to use your windshield wipers. as we have into the afternoon, expect late sunshine. it will be a cooler day. in fact, today is expected to be the coolest day of the week. expect light to moderate wins especially strong among adults up for it taking a look at your temperatures right now, mid '50s and a bottle and san francisco. pretty close to the 60 degree mark in oakland and hayward. satellite and radar and you will notice a lot of cloud cover and acting not only the coast line, but working its way inland. if it looks like temperatures will be much cooler today. for the east bay, was focused on the highs. possibly brentwood in the mid '80s, 82 in pittsburgh. clyde temperatures mostly in the

protest all over downtown oakland in as they were making their way through there, you can see objects into these huge thick windows. a damaged but not shattered. also, same thing over here. something did go through this window but did not completely go down. here is video of the protests. they gathered at about 6:00 in the evening at city hall. it started off peacefully and pretty slow with only a handful of people. within an hour, of hundred people is not more to gather momentum to the point where they marched through downtown oakland,. then they followed this group of throughout the night. at about 11:00 at night, that is when things really got unruly. we got a

chance to talk to the police chief. much has been made over the past several days about the police is an action. here's what he has to say. we all want to stand by and let vandalism happen but i can't say cops into the middle of very large agitated crowd. we have to respond and a safe manner. we do want to minimize the vandalism that occurs to the extent that we can. we did have a chance to step up adequately in advance of what happened on saturday night so we responded saturday night, we had to hold costs from around the city to be able to do that. and by that point, a lot of vandalism had already occurred.

of the green on the runway sensors indicates 50 mouse at a higher power. >>anny: the little girl in oakland is still missing. daphne webb had been sitting with her grandmother in a car while her father shopped at an east oakland store. that's when the child was reportedly grabbed from the car last wednesday. 40 volunteers combed an open space area around the girl's home. there was no large scale search effort today.investigators are now trying to narrow the timeline of when daphne and her father were last seen together. this is the store at 79th and international. the video is from our helicopter partnership with abc7 news.

police are also looking for a woman seen walking away from this area carrying a small child. she's described as being black or hispanic, in her 30's with long black hair. >>james:the state panel created after a fire destroyed part of chevron's richmond refinery is recommending the creation of a new refinery task force. the new task force will have powers to penalize violations at refineries and strengthen air quality monitoring. the interagency working group on refinery safety said the myriad state agencies currently charged with refinery oversight should be brought together to streamline efforts. the panel says this new "interagency refinery task force" should be created by september 1st. a federal investigation found that the richmond refinery fire was caused by a corroded pipe that should have been replaced. >>anny:there's still no deal on a new bart contract. both sides have less than three weeks before a second bart strike is possible.

he'll be arraigned today - and charged with murdering two saleswomen. the women have been identified as 35-year old khin mah of san francisco and 51-year old lina lim of daly city. phone video of the owner of store in question -- he survived the attack. employees at the jewelry mart are wearng pink ribbons in memory of the victims.
