protests in oakland get ""out of control"" as dozens are arrested last night. and a juror in the george zimmerman trial is speaking out. what she had to say about the verdict, coming up. good morning i'm anny hong. and i'm james fletcher. crowds of protesters are breaking storefront windows and clashing with police in downtown oakland this morning after hundreds of protesters gathered in response to the acquittal of george zimmerman. this is video of the protests from our helicopter partnership with a-b-c seven news. oakland police attempted to redirect the crowd of at least 250 protesters when they began lighting off fireworks and smashing glass windows on telegraph avenue.

the protests briefly blocked traffic on interstate 880. so far, nine people have been arrested. the rally began last night around six at the frank ogawa plaza. here is what one protester had to say during that rally. late last night protesters attempted to stop traffic on interstate 580 but were blocked by police. other confrontations between protesters and police happened throughout oakland, including at the courthouse and downtown. one of the six women who found george zimmerman "not guilty" has decided to come forward to explain how the jury came to its decision. as andrew spencer reports. the woman -- known only as juror b-37 -- says coming to a verdict was not easy. that juror said she and her husband were considering writing a book about her experiences on the jury. they have since decided not

to do so. one of the prosecution's star witnesses in the george zimmerman murder trial is reacting to saturday's "not guilty" verdict. rachel jeantel was on the phone with trayvon martin at the start of his fatal confrontation with zimmerman began. now she's giving her first interview after the verdict to c-n-n's "piers morgan" she said martin was never aggressive -- describing martin as a calm, loving person who loved his family and was a good friend. she dismissed the idea that the case had no racial dimension. jeantel acknowledged that martin smoked marijuana, but said it did not make him quote "go crazy." >>james:now to the latest on the crash of asiana flight 214. the n-t-s-b is closing its *on-scene command post at s-f-o. investigators have finished their examination of the wreckage and runway. the wreckage will still be

available for more testing if necessary. it will be locked up in a secure location on airport property. meanwhile. blood centers in san francisco are working together to host a blood drive in honor of the victims. the stanford blood center and "the blood centers of the pacific" are joining forces.. the blood collected will help both centers replenish their supplies.

it's been nearly a week and there's still no sign of a little girl missing from oakland. her family says daphne webb was last seen in her father's s-u-v last wednesday. kron-4's maureen kelly says police are now trying to pinpoint what daphne and her father were doing in the minutes before the crime.

a small earthquake struck the south bay yesterday. it measured three-point- four centered about nine miles northeast of san jose. the quake struck on the calaveras fault at a depth of about five miles. damage or injuries. morning news. began to cloud the conditions once again. the cool average expect a for a lot of locations. will be right back after the break.

protest all over downtown oakland in as they were making their way through there, you can see objects into these huge thick windows. a damaged but not shattered. also, same thing over here. something did go through this window but did not completely go down. here is video of the protests. they gathered at about 6:00 in the evening at city hall. it started off peacefully and pretty slow with only a handful of people. within an hour, of hundred people is not more to gather momentum to the point where they marched through downtown oakland,. then they followed this group of throughout the night. at about 11:00 at night, that is when things really got unruly. we got a

chance to talk to the police chief. much has been made over the past several days about the police is an action. here's what he has to say. we all want to stand by and let vandalism happen but i can't say cops into the middle of very large agitated crowd. we have to respond and a safe manner. we do want to minimize the vandalism that occurs to the extent that we can. we did have a chance to step up adequately in advance of what happened on saturday night so we responded saturday night, we had to hold costs from around the city to be able to do that. and by that point, a lot of vandalism had already occurred.

he'll be arraigned today - and charged with murdering two saleswomen. the women have been identified as 35-year old khin mah of san francisco and 51-year old lina lim of daly city. phone video of the owner of store in question -- he survived the attack. employees at the jewelry mart are wearng pink ribbons in memory of the victims.
