there you heard it, a 72- hour notice is now official. the bart strike is just days away if both sides of the bargaining table can not come to an agreement. we'll have the latest in the negotiations and tell you how to plan for your monday morning commute should the trains come to a halt. good morning and thanks for joining us on this friday august 2nd. lets start with a check of the weather with erica. another bart strike is coming closer to reality this morning as a 72-hour notice has been issued. negotiations wrapped up at around 9 last night and they are set to resume this morning at 11. the three unions in negotiations with bart announced the strike notice last night. this means workers could walk off the job for the second time this summer if a new contract isn't reached by midnight on sunday. union members say the two sides have not made much

progress on salaries, pension, and medical contributions since talks were extended for 30-days. the unions say resuming the strike is a last resort and that they're running out of options. bart says they are bargaining in good faith and that calling for a strike only stalls and delays important decisions that need to be made. bart's chief negotiator tom hock says the tone in meetings has been respectful and he is confident a deal will be reached by sunday. commuters are now anxious about what to do on monday for transportation if a bart strike does happen. many riders feel that negotiations were going better. also some give and take has to happen on both the sides of the management and the

unions. but most riders say both sides are to blame for what is going on. a bart strike is now more of a possibility. commuters are anxious about what to do on monday for transportation. kron four's jeff bush asked bart riders who they blame for the traffic headaches that may be ahead. the powell street station is one of the busiest stops along the bart tracks during the commute. people are in a hurry to get onboard before their train leaves. so, what if the trains aren't running on monday? who's fault is it? most riders say the blame rests on the shoulders of both management and the unions. >>i think i am more mad at the unions. i think it is irresponsible to shut down the whole system for about a week, was it? right? that's a lot of people who had to find different ways to work. obviously, traffic increased a ton. it was a serious inconvienience for the entire city. >>i wish there was better negotiations. i feel like there's some give and take that has to happen. i think on the employees side, it seems to me they're asking a lot. i haven't gotten a raise for five years myself but i totally understand that they deserve it.

>>who do you blame more, management or labor? >> i think both sides are to blame. i think there should be better negotiations so that both sides can agree on something. >>at the beginning i blamed the unions because when you look at the facts that they were giving us we thought they are inconvieniencing us for four dollars, a dollar a year. so, i thought they were being unreasonable at that point. but, now, i am learning that the management isn't even coming to the negotiations or somebody is not showing up. riders say they are sick of the drawn out theatrics that cause anxiety and hassle for the commuting public. i'm jeff bush in oakland, kron four news. riders say they are sick of the drawn out theatrics that cause anxiety and hassle for the commuting public. bart workers and supporters rallied and took to the streets for a march in oakland yesterday. this is video from our helicopter partnership with abc-7 news. you can see the crowds marching from frank ogawa plaza to bart's headquarters near lake merritt. streets were shut down as hundreds of union members carried signs. members of other unions came out to support bart's two biggest unions.

police were on hand and they surrounded the crowd to keep an eye out for any potential disruptions. but the rally remained peaceful. if the bart strike does happen, commuters are advised to make a back up plan for monday morning. kron 4's pam moore has a look at other ways to get around the bay without bart. other transit agencies now have their plans in place. bart will offer a free shuttle bus service here is a map of the bart stations where you can get on the bus. some buses stop in west oakland, so you can get off there. others go directly to the transbay terminal in san francisco. thre are new stops in concord and san leandro. if there is a strike on monday, the buses will run from 5 to 8 in the morning. the evening commute starts at 3pm and takes you back to your orginal location. however you must have a round-trip ticket.

there will also be limited free parking at the bart stations. san francisco bay ferry. will again offer extra service. from its locations in san francisco, south san francisco, oakland, alameda and vallejo. there will be 13 vessels running instead of the normal eight. the ferries do extra trips across the bay. you can pay with your clipper card. parking lots filled up fast.so see if you can ride your bike there or get dropped off. a/c transit is not adding any extra buses. but current buses will do extra trips. a/c transit will put their

the 36-year-old teacher was arrested in early 2012 on charges that he blind- folded five of his students and made them perform oral sex. the female victims were between the ages of 7 and 9 when chandler molested them during recesses in his classroom outside court on thursday the prosecutor said that she believes justice was served.

chandler is scheduled to be sentenced in september. he faces 75 years to life in prison. coming up on the kron four morning news. transportation officials recommend working from home if you can. if bart workers strike on monday. and they say carpooling is the next best option. kron 4's charles clifford has more. very week day 270 thousand cars drive over the bay bridge. the metropolitan transportation commission estimates that 92 percent

those vehicles have at just one or two occupants. that means 248 thousand cars could have empty seats inside. now.. by comparison, about 150 thousand people use bart to cross san francisco bay everyday... so, in theory.. if bart workers go on strike again.. there are more than enough empty car seats to take up the slack. the metropolitan

transportation commission wants to fill up at least some of those seats by encouraging people to carpool or use ride share programs. if there is a strike, carpool drivers will be able to park for free at any bart parking lot... caltrans also plans to extend the hours for hov lanes on i-80 from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m during weekdays.

travel when flipped over and landed on the downed motorcyclist. they administered cpr but unfortunately the most that as motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. there were at least two people inside that suvs. no idea right now exactly what their injuries were and if they are going to be charged with anything. we did have a chance to talk with oakland police officer about the accident >>: as the officers were going over to check on the status of the male, another vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed came up behind them collided with yet another vehicle and that vehicle flipped over a couple of times and again collided with the motorcyclist. >>: as i said the trucks are on seeing right now. that's the car up there that flipped over to read and can also see the bridge remained

that number is up 51% from 2002. san francisco stations saw the highest percentage increase of violent crime at those stations is up a years ago. bart officials say, they are installing new technology for added safety on the trains. >>: even on the train there is going to be real-time surveillance. right now we have to take cameras. we will be able to have and i from the police headquarters that is going to really be able to help us see what's going to happen and how quickly respond. >>anny:this year, a new law also allows bart to ban violent the city of richmond is set to file a lawsuit today against chevron over the massive fire at the refinery last year. a burlingame law firm has been hired to file the suit. that same firm handled a victims of the 2010 san bruno pipeline explosion. no word on how much money the city will seek in the lawsuit.

the results of the interstate-80 challenge are in. no deaths on i-80 were reported in california during the eight day crackdown. c-h-p joined agencies from 10 other states. stepping up traffic enforcement. research shows there is one death every 8 minutes on i- 80 nationwide. c-h-p says speed and distracted drivers are mainly to blame for deadly accidents. the little girl, whom loved ones called ladybug, was shot and killed when she was at a sleepover at her friend's home in east oakland. alaysha's step-father jesse fowler says that the family is still struggling with the devastating loss of the

little girl. friends and family gathered to host a runway celebration in her memory. alaysha had dreamed of one day becoming a fashion model. proceeds from the event will go to support her family and the after school dance programs she attended. an update now on giants fan, bryan stow, who was beaten outside a dodgers baseball game in l-a. in 2011 stow's family says he still needs immediate attention for nerve damage on his arm. he cannot lift his left arm or even open his hand. he also needs to have more surgery. at this point the family says his memory is still unpredictable. they express their gratitude for all of the support they
