wildfire burning in yosemite national park. we'll have the latest on the "rim" wildfire. a teenage boy is dead and two others are injured this morning after their car slammed into a tree. details in a live report coming up. and we're now just one day away from the bay bridge closure. we'll tell you what crews are doing to make sure the new span is completely safe. let's first get an update with our weather and traffic. at the morning erica. >>erica: good morning. today could be the warmest day of the week. i will show you your extended forecast and when we should expect that warm-up coming up. good morning george. >>george: the morning erica.

not any delays or problems. but traffic is building at the bay bridge, second day in a roper it we already see a complete back up even on the 80 approach to the bridge. here we are already backed up past the first over crossing for it the old oakland base horseshoe there. we're already starting to see delays building and hear your quick commute check shows a we are looking at a moderate conditions for most of the east bay with heavy traffic already on highway 4 and 580. even slowing on 238. south freeway still pretty light as our peninsula freeways and the north bound ride is a smooth one as well >>james:developing story out of danville where there's been a tragedy on the first day of school. last night, three teens lose control of their car killing one of the passengers. a 16 year old boy. kron 4's will tran is live at the scene and shows us what happened. will.

>>will: what sam their driving northbound. they believe according to a investigators that speed was a factor although they don't know the speed the car was traveling at the time for if you can see skid marks. they painted the ground war as markers for its third loss control. there are skid marks on boy from here to across the street and to that tree. here is a video. this all happen shortly after 9:00 last night. i learned that the teenager that died was hitting and the right passenger seat. he was a 16 year-old boy. his name is not been released. to 17 year-old, the driver suffered a broken rib and the other passenger suffered a broken leg. those two are recovering ed chow york hospital. john muir hospital. investigators are searching to see how fast the car was traveling through it we had a chance to talk with the sergeant read here's what he had to say.

firefighters say they saw smoke and flames on the first and second stories of the house. the home was vacant and its possible squatters may have been inside. we have no word on any injuries. now on to the latest with the wildfire burning in yosemite national park. the rim fire has grown to nearly 161-thousand acres. making it the 13th- largest fire in state history. the flames are now 20- percent contained. that number is up from 15- percent.

crews are relying on air tankers to help stop the spread of the fire. governor jerry brown toured some of the burned area. evacuations are still in effect for communities near the fire. take a look at this new youtube video we have

found. you can see just how big the flames are. utility officials are monitoring the quality of the water at the hetch hetchy reservoir right now. ash from the rim fire is raining into reservoir. officials say water is being diverted away from hetch hetchy to avoid contamination. but this is normal protocol to divert water to other location for winter maintenance. officials say the water is safe to drink for now, but there is a worst case scenario. utility officials say they're monitoring the quality of the water in a

>>mark: welcome back. we're keeping our eye on a major heat waveschool's already out for students in several states in the midwest. we'll tell you why. they just started school, but already, students in the midwest are getting out of class early this week because of the sweltering heat. schools in nebraska, iowa, the dakotas and illinois are letting kids out of class early. temperatures in those states are close to reaching 100 degrees. and some classrooms do not have air conditioning. the national weather service says a prolonged heat wave of this magnitude is unusual for this time of year, but not unprecedented.

like danville, pleasanton, 92 degrees and pleasanton. downtown's san francisco today, a high of 67 degrees in mid '80s for nevada. i do want to update conditions on the new ram fire. today temperatures will be an all '70s and so it will be cooler however. we have a slight potential for some scattered thunderstorms in the area. wins around the fire blowing at about 10 mi. per hour but because this is such a massive fire and such a complex system, it's actually creating its own weather system within the fire itself. the land could change at any point. a very hard to pinpoint exactly what direction the fire will go in. as a focus on the extended forecast we certainly have cooler weather on the way. good morning george. >>george: as we continue to monitor tearing pretty good ride. , no major incidents.

kenan adams-kinard was arrested yesterday. both teens will be tried as adults. new this morning-- students at sandy hook elementary in newtown, connecticut head back to school today. in december 2012.20-year old adam lanza shot 26 people inside sandy hook, including 20 students. the school has been closed since the mass killing. in may a newtown task force approved a plan to tear down the school and build a new one on the same property. the proposal still must be approved by town residents. students will return to school at a new location and in a different building. a coalition of education and civil rights activists

says millions of at-risk students could fall through the cracks. .as a result of the obama administration's decision to allow states to ignore parts of the no child left behind education law. states now receive waivers in exchange for plans to better prepare students for college or career. the new rules have allowed almost 23-hundred schools to shed their label of seriously troubled. the education secretary says congress needs to rewrite the law. same-sex couples are now allowed to marry in three counties in new mexico. yesterday, a judge declared same sex marriage legal. .ordering clerks in bernalillo county to grant marriage licenses to same sex couples who apply for them beginning today. the decision comes on the heels of an order last week

police in walnut creek now believe, that as many as half a dozen people. may have been involved in a brazen burglary at tiffany and company a week- and a half ago. this is surveillance video recorded just an hour before the burglary. you can see the stolen pickup truck which was used to break through the stores' front door, two unknown vehicles. and the chevy blazer used as a getaway car. six different suspects are also seen in the video.
