all the construction at the toll plaza. there is no traffic getting through at this time. disclosure happened at 8:00 p.m. last night. this will continue until tuesday morning at 5:00 a.m.. in the meantime you have to use the san mateo bridge. you should keep in mind that the san mateo bridge only has three lanes. this is compared to the five planes that the bay bridge usually has. we're not seen any increase in your drive times. the letter on this morning things will back up. it is also a little hazy outside. here is a live look at the golden gate bridge. i want to highlight some of the areas where we are expecting additional traffic. so far so good we

that it is closed. you can see that the work is getting done right behind me. there are hundreds of trucks coming and going. chp officers--everyone is focusing on the east bay. you concede that it is lit up. there is an area that it is so dangerous and it told me i had to turn around because it was too busy for my car to be down there. they exported meat and back to this direction. coming up a 4:30 a.m. we will be escorted on to the new eastern span and i will let you know what the progress is. at 8:00 a.m. this morning they are scheduled have a press conference. they will let everyone know where they are. if they do not get these things done obviously, at 5:00 a.m. tuesday morning as will be in jeopardy. they have a

strict deadline that they need to meet every hour. it is hard to believe after 80, 90 years old eastern span is now out of commission. >> with the bay bridge shutdown until five tuesday morning, there are many other options to getting around the bay area. bart is running 24 hour service stopping at 14 stations over the labor day weekend. the trains running every hour during the times they are normally closed. all ac transit bus services across the bridge have been suspended until the new bridge opens. but the san francisco bay ferries have extra boats in the water during the closure. they will be heading to and from the oakland, alameda main street, harbor bay, vallejo and san francisco terminals. ferries will depart every 45 minutes during peak commute hours. even with all these added services, transit officials

the eastern span. although eastern span may be closing for good it will not be disappearing any time soon. bay bridge officials say it will take about three years to take apart and remove the entire span. the old stand cannot be blown up, because the debris would fall and pollute the bay. it will have to be removed very carefully due to its proximity to the new span. remove most and cost $233 million. >> and word what will happen till the bay bridge patrotroll. here is, if you have

>> firefighters are making fire, which has been burning for nearly two- weeks in and around yosemite national park. and alameda county fire says the crews it deployed a week ago are on their way back home, after a strike team relieved them of their duties. here is what we know this morning. the rim fire has charred more than 192-thousand acres. which is more than 300 square miles. the wildfire is 30-percent contained. that is up from 23-percent yesterday. the san francisco public utilities commission says that the city's water supply reservoir remains *unaffected by the massive rim fire. kron 4's philippe djegal reports from tuolumne county with more. >> the new images paint a very smokey and firey picture. as you can see. the fire still emitting what looks like a volcanic eruption. fire crews continue to battle the flames on the shoulders of highways. while helicopters fill up with water and fire retardant to slow the spread of the fire and knock down flames. you can see a member of the california national guard in a chopper as water is released over wildland. and, in this photo you can barely see the chopper as it makes it's flyover. that area of the forest engulfed in smoke. throughout the day.

crews fighting hot spots burning on the northwestern part of yosemite national park. but this area is remote and away from tourists. at this point, there are more than 45-hundred fire fighters involved in the rim fire. in a battle costing more than 33-million dollars so far. more than 55-hundred structures remain threatened. but crews are making headway on the fire. focusing their attention on building containment lines on the northwestern and southeastern parts of the burn zone. in tuolumne county, philippe djegal, kron four news. >> take a look at this stunning lapse video of the "rim fire." you can see the smoke and flames billowing up to the sky. about 55-hundred structures are threatened by the blaze. and more than 110 buildings have been destroyed. several communities nearby the fire remain under evacuation. >> still ahead on the kron 4 morning news.

richmond san rafael bridge. as of right now, so far so good it is okay. the chp did report that there was a stall in the northbound direction. >> i quickly want to go over some of the spots where we will see an increase in traffic problem morning. one of the spots is sir francis drake boulevard. right now is looking good but you can expect more cars on the road. of course, we will see the increase in volume in interstate 880 where it meets highway 92. as of right now we're seeing all green on the screen. as of right now the traffic is looking pretty good but public transit is also an alternative. this will be running 24 hours limited service. this is during peak hours only. as we focus on

labor day. >> a date for a special election to replace san diego mayor bob filner has been set. the city council has agreed to november 19th. filner is scheduled to resign tomorrow following sexual harassment allegations from more than a dozen women. democratic mayor in decades when he took office in december. the city charter requires a special election if a mayor resigns with more than one year left on his term. the city clerk estimates the election would cost about $6 million and more if a runoff is required. linepennsylvania's governor is blocking same sex marriage licenses in the state. comparing gay and lesbian couples to children. republican governor tom corbett's administration has filed a lawsuit saying the licenses are invalid. state attorneys compare same sex couples to children who can't marry because a 1996 law says marriage is between a man and a woman. officials in montgomery county say the law is discriminatory. >> survivors and family

have closures in place since 8:00 p.m. last month. you can see the construction crews are still on the scene. this bridge closure is expected to go on tuesday morning at 5:00 a.m.. a lot of people are heading to the san rafael bridge. it is only for 40 7:00 a.m. and we are seeing a little bit of space between cars. the golden gate bridge it does not look pretty bad. a lot of people are coming from highway 4. it is really not built to handle all this extra traffic. they will head down the golden gate to get on 19th avenue. >> the traffic is already building coming off the richmond san rafael bridge. we did see areas of yellow

60's so low 90's. as we head into the evening the clouds will roll in and we was see the return fog and drizzle. your extended forecast the show a cooler conditions for labor day weekend. >> investigators discovered that a one-time surfing teacher currently jailed on child sex abuse charges took inappropriate photos of young girls at santa cruz high school, police said today. santa cruz police alleged that dylan greiner, 38, took pictures of girls while a special guest for "pool jr. guard" programs run by the seahorse swim school in santa cruz, santa cruz police deputy chief steve clark said. the seahorse swim school had been running the programs out of the swimming pool at the campus of santa cruz high school, where it rented the pool for swim classes, clark said. santa cruz city schools, which oversees the public high school, was not affiliated with the swim school and was not responsible for its employees or volunteers, clark said.

the study said between 2006 and 2012 black youths made up 73.5 percent of all juvenile arrests in oakland even though they comprise just 29.3 percent of the city's youth population. similarly, black youths accounted for 73 percent of arrests by school district police over the past two years even though they comprise only 30.5 percent of the school's population, the report said. >> kro another letter today from convicted serial killer joseph naso. it is the first time we have heard from naso since his conviction last week. hand-written letter, naso says. he was -- quote -- "found unjustly guilty." he calls the case a "farce" and insists that several pieces of evidence used against him, had no bearing on the murder cases, and should not have been allowed to be heard by the jury. the 79-year-old one time photographer was found guilty last week of killing four bay area women decades ago. the jury will reconvene next week to decide whether naso gets the death penalty or life behind bars.

i'm it is 'no go' for a controversial proposal to ban the sale of sodas and other sugary drinks at city- owned facilities in san jose. the city council killed killed the proposal by councilman ash kalra this afternoon. kalra had proposed banning the sale of high- sugar drinks and whole milk at city hall, community centers and libraries. city councilman pete constant.who opposes kalra's plan says, the city needs to focus on other priorities like finding money to put more police officers on the street.
