(male announcer) this is the bay area news station, kron 4 news starts now. >> top stories we are following on this saturday september 7th. a mini heat wave has hit the bay area. we'll tell you what temperatures to expect. and there are many events going on here in the bay area this weekend. larger than usual crowds are expected. we'll have a break down of the events. >> good morning i'm marty gonzalez. we want to start out in the weather center this morning janu, just how hot is it going to get today? >> is going to be hot, even with triple digits. from our

golden gate bridge camera, we are used to seeing fog but it is already a very warm start. the north bay and the coastal areas are fifties but other areas low 70's to start. san jose, 53 but is already be going to be warm with already 66 degrees in napa. it is going to be pretty hot in the palermo livermore. -and even how this fea wave i going to last long. /+ >> as we heard from janu, it's going to be a hot weekend. luckily, those inland can come closer to the bay to escape those triple digits. us live now from the embarcadero, mike, are people already out there looking for ways to beat the heat? >> reporter: good morning.

people are already taking a quick run but they want to take all of this sunshine with plenty of sporting events. the oakland athletics, the 49ers. and the america's cup finals will be later today. after months of build up. team new zealand takes on oracle. the first team that wins tonight but the oracle will have to have another victory. with an illegal ammonification that was made to its boat last year. it is going to be hot. an illegal -- modification to their boat last year. >> it was so nice. usually, it is cool but now it is warm. we just have shorts on.

top stories we are following on this saturday september 7th. a mini heat wave has hit the bay area. we'll tell you what temperatures to expect. and there are many events area this weekend. larger than usual crowds are expected. gonzalez. weather center this morning janu, just how hot is it as we heard from janu, it's luckily, those inland can come closer to the bay to escape those triple digits. kron 4's mike pelton joins us live now from the embarcadero, mike, are people already out there looking for ways to and thats not all that is going on in the bay area this weekend. the giants, a's, niners, cal and stanford are all taking the field this weekend. so transit officials are advising people to plan ahead for the huge crowds anticipated on bay area roads. kron 4's grant lodes shows us just some the events

happening throughout the region this weekend. a favorite bay area event will not happen this year. fleet week has been cancelled. the public was aware the event was going to be scaled back. but the cancellation of the entire event was not expected. the fleet week website does indicate the humaniarian defeat

week organizers. they told me. they are very disappointed to cancel fleet week. but they are working now to try and bring it back for 2014. in the newsroom justine waldman kron 4 news. new this morning -- firefighters mopping up a warehouse blaze in san jose. the fire started just beofre 11 p-m near the intersection of north king and mabury roads. no word if there were any injuries. the cause of the fire remains under investigation. new developments in the fatal hit and run accident in san francisco's holly park on thursday. susepct thomas burnoski was released from jail on 25- thousand dollars bail. he was booked on hit and run and vehicular manslaughter charges-- police say his maintenance vehicle hit and killed a woman who was with her child in san francisco's bernal heights neighborhood. burnoski has been a city recreation and park department worker since 2006. residents who live near the neighborhood park where the accident happened, are trying to make sense of it all. the victim has been identified as 35-year-old christine svan-uh-meyer. she was a zen monk who lived in san francisco. she leaves behind her husband and 11-month old daughter. an 18-year-old is dead and two other juveniles are injured after a shooting in

vallejo. it happened friday night around 11-30. .on the six hundred block of louisana street. police found a white honda riddled with bullets at the scene. witnesses say a brown car drove by the honda.and started shooting. victims.a 15-year-old.is in serious condition after the incident. debate over military action in syria continues as president obama is back in the u-s. germany is joining the u-s in blaming the syrian government for alleged chemical weapons attacks. meanwhile, the president dealt with numerous questions about syria on his trip overseas for the g -20 summit. .the president would not give a direct answer on whether he will abide with congress' decision on the issue. russian president vladimir putin continued his opposition to a military response on syria. in fact, putin bragged about the g -20 countries that support his opposition to action against syria. president obama will address the nation tuesday about the possible strike on syria. and secretary of state john kerry is trying to rally support international support for a military strike on syria. kerry arrived in lithuania's capital friday. he's scheduled for meetings today with european officials. kerry will also have an update on the israeli - palestinian peace talks. protestors are demonstrating against congresswoman nancy pelosi's support for a strike on syria. one protest starts start at eleven this morning.and meets at the corner of 20-th and folsom. protestors say it is meant to let pelosi know her support of a strike is out of step with her district. and there is another demonstration against

miltary action in syria is taking place in san francisco. the bay area protest washington today. ahead of a congressional vote on the issue. at noon at the chelsea manning plaza in thelive look outside. james lick freeway new developments in the wildfire burning in and around yosemite national park. the flames have now burned more than 246- thousand acres. and containment remains at 80 percent. the water supply for about 2-and a half million san francisco area residents remains unaffected by ash officials say, damage costs to the hetch hetcy reservoir and hydro- electric powerhouse near yosemite are up to 30-million dollars. the forest service says full containment of the fire is not expected until september 20th. and one of the main roads into yosemite national park is open again. but drivers along highway 120 are advised to use extreme caution. the rim fire is still active so fire fighters will still use 120 to fight the flames. drivers are not allowed to stop along highway 120. and most of the connecting side roads and trail heads remain closed to the public. inside yosemite national park, highway 120, which is also called tioga road, remains closed between crane flats and white wolf. the contra costa county fire protection district launched a new squad to respond to low level medical calls. it's made up of two fire- fighters. they will be under a 90-day pilot program meant. it's meant to help the financially strapped

fire district better distribute its trimmed-down staff. budget cuts over the past two years have caused the district to close five- stations and lay off about 20 firefighters. the pair of fire fighters will respond to non emergency medical calls/ this will free up firefighters and engines for more serious incidents and fires. police have released the name of a murder suspect they say is connected to the death of a popular san jose schoolyard supervisor. oscar ayala is facing murder charges in the death of reina figueroa. figueroa went missing last saturday. and her body was found tuesday in her car on east san antonio street near her home. and less than a mile from ayala's home. police are not releasing information on the motive. but say, the victim and the suspect knew each other. the east bay dragons motorcycle club will host a "we love baby daphne motorcycle run" love run in oakland today. the "love run" will start at 12 noon. it's in in partnership with the mackbee foundation the run begins at the e-b-d clubhouse international blvd in oakland. it will end at the parking lot of emmanuel temple church in vallejo on 6th street. the mackbee foundation will be providing food to the bikers and to the community who have been supporting the family of missing baby daphne. wednesday, september 4th marked eight weeks since baby daphne webb was first reported missing. the weekend hot weather means more mosquitos. and a greater potential to spread the west nile virus. so the battle against the virus continues in contra costa county.

kron four's philippe djegal reports from concord with more on how you can protect yourself. dump or drain standing water. because mosquitos can't breed or begin life without water. avoid being outside at dawn and dusk -- that's when mosquitos are typically around. and, while you and your kids are outdoors. make sure you protect your skin with repellents containing deet, picaridin. or, the oil of lemon eucalyptus. this week alone. the mosquito and vector control district says six dead birds and a chicken tested postive for west nile. two of the birds were found in brentwood. the others in bethel island, danville, lafeyette and pittsburgh. this means the virus is around. the district has been laying traps and has killed off some of the mosquito population. but they continue to

multiply. so far this year. 58 birds and five chickens have tested postive for west nile. this year -- there have been two reported human cases of west nile virus in contra costa county. but district officials say those people were actually infected outside of the county -- they just live here. since 2005. 44 people have contracted the virus countywide. and, in 2006, two people died from it. in contra costa county, philippe djegal, kron four news. a precautionary health warning for parents. johnson and johnson is voluntarily recalling 200- thousand bottles of motrin- infant drops formula. they say the bottles may contain tiny specks of plastic. the particles were found in a different product during the manufacturing process. and it is not known if the recalled bottles actually contain the plastic particles. the company is asking retailers to take the product off store shelves. and says, consumers should stop using the product. and another recall, a bay area company is recalling more than 15- hundred pounds of fresh and frozen calzones. this comes after the san leandro based food company didn't say the product contained egg in the food label. the calzones are made with an egg wash glaze and egg is a known allergen. the affected products are enzo's italian combo and enzo's chicken fajita calzones produced between july 16th and september 4th. they were shipped to retail stores and possibly to restaurants here in the bay area. bima let us forget about this worcester oyster fest. >> we love this place!

>> a bill requiring local support for cow palace gun shows is awaiting governor jerry brown's approval. the bill would require both the san mateo and san francisco board of supervisors to approve before the event could be held. state senator mark leno says it's about time for the measure. leno says the community has been asking for a voice in deciding on the event for

years. governor brown has until october 13-th to respond. >> the san francisco couple often referred to as the 'landlords from hell'. are heading to jail. kip and nicole macy were both sentenced to more than 4 years in jail for threats and attacks against their tenants. police say it was all in an effort to evict residents and sell the building. they say, the couple cut holes in tenants' floors, cut into support beams, changed locks and even doused items with amnonia. to try and drive out their tenants. a judge also ordered the couple to pay restitution to their victims. >> our top story this morning. a heat wave hitting the bay area. >> we are expecting triple digits. and temperatures are on the warmer side. a clear, warm start. with 50s and even in dealing with 70's

out there. and let me show you those current temperatures. 51 degrees in santa rosa. a bit cooler in the north bay. and 64 degrees in hayward with low 70's in fremont. lunas marty mentioned, the triple digits and livermore. pleasanton and low 90s for the east to be sure. low and upper 90s-for the east bay shore. we are still going to see some warm temperatures. fremont, san jose and about 72 degrees this evening and san rafeal. and how long this heat wave is going to last. >> this bay area landmark.

there are memoriesfrom willie mays. to the catch, the beatles to the earthquake world series. over the past half century, candlestick park has hosted some of the bay area's most memorable scenes. and some that are not so memorable. grant lodes takes a look back. >> reporter: opening day 1960: vice president richard nixon throws out the first pitch. the giants new stadium had been under construction for two years. the original open horseshoe design has a great view of the bay. but it also creates a wind tunnel. in 1961, pitcher stu miller is charged with a balk when he was blown off the mound. in 1966 a milestone in music history: it is the last full public performance by the beatles. eleven songs and 33 minutes. in 1972, the 49ers leave the cramped confines of kezar stadium to move into the stick. new seats enclose the

stadium, bringing some relief from the elements. 1982, an event that creates a piece of hallowed ground in the niner end zone. it will forever be known as simply the catch, joe montana to dwight clark for the winning touchdown with 51 seconds left in the nfc championship game. the niners would win four super bowls in the 1980s. meanwhile giants fans shiver through year after year of disappointments. in 1982, an ad campaign tries to turn a minus into a plus. (croix de candlestick) the croix de candlestick bore the latin words for i came, i saw, i suffered. 1984 brings the crazy crab, a mascot designed to absorb fan frustration. the small, angry crowds pelted the padded crustracean with enthusiasm. 1987 is the year of the sermon on the mound. pope john paul the second celebrates a mass for 70=thousand people. and two years later the giants seemed to have found their mojo. making it to the world series. but as

(male announcer): now, here's stanley roberts who found people behaving badly. >> it's an outdoor gym, yes you can exercise in the comfort of 7th and market? complete with 1200 dollar bicycles it might appear that the city of san francisco is offering free exercise machines. the sad part at least one has been vandalized. oh wait these are not stationary bikes they are part of the bike share program where for a small price you can borrow a bike. i absolutely love the idea, not sure i like the idea of placing them right smack in the middle of thieves market you know that place where you can pretty much buy whatever you want albeit most of it was permanently

borrowed from a total stranger like this lime green ridesharebike shown here in this photo that was tweeted by the san francisco anti bike theft detail. notice how the would be bike thieves rapped it toilet paper to conceal its true identity. anyway this bike was recovered. i watched these bikes for a bit to see what goes on and while some people are utilizing the bikes for its intended purpose. for some it's a upper body strenth workout like this guy working on his pecks. this man im not sure exactly want he is doing, he parkes his bike to check out these bikes then takes out a note pad. and appears to taking detailed note on the construction of the bike racks who knows maybe he want to build a better bike rack. this guy showed up with what appeared to be a generator of some type and used the bike racks as a place to showcase his goods. i am interested in seeing how this new bike share program plays out but for right now it's new and lets

we are now just two days away from apple's big press event, where the company will unveil the new i-phone. our tech reporter gabe slate is sifting through all the rumors. to give us a good idea of what to expect. >> probably the most popular is a gold iphone. however, the idea is that there is going to be a black, traditional and a white, traditional and and the cheaper plastic offered. this plastic is according to rumors called the iphonec because plastic is cheaper for it to produce. perhaps just $25-$50 in the store. and because it is plastic is available in several

>> a favorite bay area event will not happen this year. fleet week has been cancelled. the public was aware the event was going to be scaled back. but the cancellation of the entire event was not expected. kron 4's justine waldman explains us why. >> reporter: kron 4 news has learned. the fleet week air and naval shows have been cancelled for 2013. the navy grounded the stars of the show. the blue angels. in april. leaving the rest of the show in question now we know there will be no parade of ships under the golden gate bridge. no snowbirds in the sky. leaving nothing for the million plus spectators along the waterfront to enjoy. the reason for grounding the popular event. budget cuts. sequestration stopped the blue angles and parade of ships. it it just too expensive. the fleet week website does indicate the humaniarian assistance and disaster response events will go in october.

80 percent. the water supply for about 2-and a half million san francisco area residents remains unaffected by ash from the rim- yosemite fire. officials say, damage costs to the hetch hetcy reservoir and hydro- electric powerhouse near yosemite are up to 30-million dollars. the forest service says full containment of the fire is not expected until september 20th. and one of the main roads into yosemite national park is open again. but drivers along highway 120 are advised to use extreme caution. the rim fire is still active so fire fighters will still use 120 to fight the flames. drivers are not allowed to stop along highway 120. and most of the connecting side roads and trail heads remain closed to the public. inside yosemite national park, highway 120, which is also called tioga road, remains closed between crane flats and white wolf. >> the contra costa county fire protection district launched a new squad to respond to low level medical calls. it's made up of two fire- fighters. they will be under a 90-day pilot program meant. it's meant to help

the same in sonoma and 96 degrees expected for napa. taking a look your kron 4 7 day around the bay is one we will see that cooling kicking and. the temperatures are going to be dropping down, drastically towards wednesday. >> police have released the name of a murder suspect they say is connected to the death of a popular san jose schoolyard supervisor. oscar ayala is facing murder charges in the death of reina figueroa. figueroa went missing last saturday. and her body was found tuesday in her car on east san antonio street near her home. and less than a mile from ayala's home. police are not releasing information on the motive. but say, the victim and the suspect knew each other. >> the east bay dragons motorcycle club will host a "we love baby daphne motorcycle run" love run in

oakland today. the "love run" will start at 12 noon. it's in in partnership with the mackbee foundation the run begins at the e-b-d clubhouse international blvd in oakland. it will end at the parking lot of emmanuel temple church in vallejo on 6th street. the mackbee foundation will be providing food to the bikers and to the community who have been supporting the family of missing baby daphne. wednesday, september 4th marked eight weeks since baby daphne webb was first reported missing. >> the weekend hot weather means more mosquitos. and a greater potential to spread the west nile virus. so the battle against the virus continues in contra costa county. kron four's philippe djegal reports from concord with more on how you can protect yourself. >> reporter: dump or drain standing water. because mosquitos can't breed or begin life without water. avoid being outside at dawn and dusk -- that's when mosquitos are typically around. and, while you and your kids are outdoors.

make sure you protect your skin with repellents containing deet, picaridin. or, the oil of lemon eucalyptus. this week alone. the mosquito and vector control district says six dead birds and a chicken tested postive for west nile. two of the birds were found in brentwood. the others in bethel island, danville, lafeyette and pittsburgh. this means the virus is around. the district has been laying traps and has killed off some of the mosquito population. but they continue to multiply. so far this year. 58 birds and five chickens have tested postive for west nile. this year -- there have been two reported human cases of west nile virus in contra costa county. but district officials say those people were actually infected outside of the county -- they just live here. since 2005. 44 people have contracted the virus countywide. and, in 2006, two people died from it. in contra costa county, philippe djegal, kron four news. >> a precautionary health

warning for parents. johnson and johnson is voluntarily recalling 200- thousand bottles of motrin- infant drops formula. they say the bottles may contain tiny specks of plastic. the particles were found in a different product during the manufacturing process. and it is not known if the recalled bottles actually contain the plastic particles. the company is asking retailers to take the product off store shelves. and says, consumers should stop using the product. and another recall, a bay area company is recalling more than 15- hundred pounds of fresh and frozen calzones. this comes after the san leandro based food company didn't say the product contained egg in the food label. the calzones are made with an egg wash glaze and egg is a known allergen. the affected products are enzo's italian combo and enzo's chicken fajita calzones produced between july 16th and september 4th. they were shipped to retail stores and possibly to restaurants here in the bay

>> new developments in the wildfire burning in and around yosemite national park. the flames have now burned more than 246- thousand acres. and containment remains at 80 percent. the water supply for about 2-and a half million san francisco area residents remains unaffected by ash from the rim- yosemite fire. officials say, damage costs to the hetch hetcy reservoir and hydro- electric powerhouse near yosemite are up to 30-million dollars. the forest service says full containment of the fire is not expected until september 20th.

and one of the main roads into yosemite national park is open again. but drivers along highway 120 are advised to use extreme caution. the rim fire is still active so fire fighters will still use 120 to fight the flames. drivers are not allowed to stop along highway 120. and most of the connecting side roads and trail heads remain closed to the public. inside yosemite national park, highway 120, which is also called tioga road, remains closed between crane flats and white wolf. >> the contra costa county fire protection district launched a new squad to respond to low level medical calls. it's made up of two fire- fighters. they will be under a 90-day pilot program meant. it's meant to help the financially strapped fire district better distribute its trimmed-down staff. budget cuts over the past two years have caused the district to close five-

degrees expected in napa. and hot temperatures it is going to stick around. tuesday, wednesday, things are going to gradually cool off. police have released the name of a murder suspect they say is connected to the death of a popular san jose schoolyard supervisor. oscar ayala is facing murder charges in the death of reina figueroa. figueroa went missing last saturday. and her body was found tuesday in her car on east san antonio street near her home. and less than a mile from ayala's home. police are not releasing information on the motive. but say, the victim and the suspect knew each other. >> the east bay dragons motorcycle club will host a "we love baby daphne motorcycle run" love run in oakland today. the "love run" will start at 12 noon. it's in in partnership with the mackbee foundation the run begins at the e-b-d clubhouse international blvd in oakland. it will end at the parking lot of emmanuel

temple church in vallejo on 6th street. the mackbee foundation will be providing food to the bikers and to the community who have been supporting the family of missing baby daphne. wednesday, september 4th marked eight weeks since baby daphne webb was first reported missing. >> the weekend hot weather means more mosquitos. and a greater potential to spread the west nile virus. so the battle against the virus continues in contra costa county. kron four's philippe djegal reports from concord with more on how you can protect yourself. >> reporter: dump or drain standing water. because mosquitos can't breed or begin life without water. avoid being outside at dawn and dusk -- that's when mosquitos are typically around. and, while you and your kids are outdoors. make sure you protect your skin with repellents containing deet, picaridin. or, the oil of lemon eucalyptus. this week alone. the mosquito and vector control district says six dead birds and a chicken

tested postive for west nile. two of the birds were found in brentwood. the others in bethel island, danville, lafeyette and pittsburgh. this means the virus is around. the district has been laying traps and has killed off some of the mosquito population. but they continue to multiply. so far this year. 58 birds and five chickens have tested postive for west nile. this year -- there have been two reported human cases of west nile virus in contra costa county. but district officials say those people were actually infected outside of the county -- they just live here. since 2005. 44 people have contracted the virus countywide. and, in 2006, two people died from it. in contra costa county, philippe djegal, kron four news. >> a precautionary health warning for parents. johnson and johnson is voluntarily recalling 200- thousand bottles of motrin- infant drops formula. they say the bottles may contain tiny specks of plastic. the particles were found in

a different product during the manufacturing process. and it is not known if the recalled bottles actually contain the plastic particles. the company is asking retailers to take the product off store shelves. and says, consumers should stop using the product. >> and another recall, a bay area company is recalling more than 15- hundred pounds of fresh and frozen calzones. this comes after the san leandro based food company didn't say the product contained egg in the food label. the calzones are made with an egg wash glaze and egg is a known allergen. the affected products are enzo's italian combo and enzo's chicken fajita calzones produced between july 16th and september 4th. they were shipped to retail stores and possibly to restaurants here in the bay area. >> we will be back with much more and this live look outside. the san mateo bridge and at the
