and once again there are many events going on here in the bay area this weekend. the niners open the season at the stick. a sellout good morning i'm marty gonzalez. we want to start out in the weather center this morning janu, 2nd day of this first? >> is another hot one. we can see the cooler conditions along the immediate coast. however, it is going to be another scorcher, inland. temperatures are cooler. compared to where we were yesterday. 54 degrees in santa rosa. 50s in vallejo. and 50s in san jose. taking a look in your afternoon highs. a bit cooler but still, 73 degrees expected in half moon bay. and the east bay shores were in the

'90s it will be in the 80s today. even however, triple digits with antioch, livermore. and 94 degrees expected in san jose. how long this heat wave will stick are round. >> as we heard from janu, it's going to be a hot weekend. it is also a busy day for sports fans. with the giants, a's, america's cup and the niners all in the bay area today. it's the home opener for the niners as they take on the packers. kron 4's mike pelton is live >> reporter: absolutely, tailgating but they entered the season as super bowl contenders. they are expected to be another heavyweight today against the green bay packers. we were talking about this same game, the divisional round

it took some fast work by firefighters to knock down a brush fire on san bruno mountain saturday. the fire quickly spread to more than 40 acres - sending plumes of smoke into the sky. fire officials says it started along the hillside corridor and in minutes, went from a one alarm to a 4 alarm blaze the deputy fire chief describes what may have fueled this fire. >> hot, dry conditions plus the steep terrain that's out there, it moved pretty fast moving from the initial fire.cigarette and things like that, plus hot dry temperatures and hot dry brush equals 4 alarm fire >> ten agencies were involved in getting the fire under control. including an air attack team luckily no one was hurt. >> ofnew this morning. a family is mountain view is homless after their house was destroyed in a two- alarm fire. it happened last night

around eight in the 18- hundred block of orangetree lane. at one point the house was *fully engulfed in flames. and the fire spread to a second home. it took firefighters about an hour to put out the blaze. no one was injured. the cause of that fire remains under investigation. but >> bay area motorcycle clubs organized a ride for missing toddler daphne webb. the east bay dragons motorcycle club dedicated the ride saturday to daphne and offered their support to her family. it has been two months since the two-year-old went missing from a car. daphne's grandfather is grateful for the show of this support. >> for the family this is beautiful and again this is something that solidifies us and brings us closer together and strengthens our hope to bring daphne back. >> the east bay dragons extended the invitation to other motorcycle clubs to join their ride. clubs around the bay area responded.and came out to offer their support. >> police are searching for a suspect in the fatal

from the u.s. forest service. around yosemite national park is starting to slow down, but firefighters still haven't stopped it. here's the latest. the fire has burned over 252 thousand acres. that's the equivalent of 394 square miles. oakland and san jose combined. it's now the third largest fire in state history. the fire, while still growiing, remains at 80 percent containment. is now 89-million dollars. and while it is unlikely,some or all of that bill could end up going to the hunter who caused the fire. let's take a quick look outside this morning. let's check in with janu for your sunday forecast. >> it is still going to be hot again today. let us take a look at the fog tracker. mainly along the coast with portions of the bayshore. and as we put this clock into motion plenty of sunshine. as we go for this afternoon and it is going to start to fill in for the overnight hours. let us talk temperatures. if your headed out towards concord, 66 degrees in livermore. san jose and also the north bay, mid-50s. whethe afternoon highs

congress to approve ahe will do a round of television interviews tomorrow - one day ahead of his national address. joining us now to talk about what it means politically is our political analyst michael yaki. what are you hearing about congress? >> guest: i think everybody thinks that if you had to go and vote today that he would probably win in congress but lose in the house of representatives. and he has to make the case however, to the american people. that congress is on break. they are hearing everything about jobs in the economy the last thing they want to talk about is syria. it goes back to part of america's pre-world war two. and it was very isolated. i think that we have come back and we of retreated in word because of our domestic problems.

injured. the three were riding in a car late friday. another vehicle pulled up and someone in that car opened fire. this is vallejo's 15th homicide of 2013. there were 21 homicides in vallejo last year. police say they havent yet uncovered the motive for the shooting. >> thousands of people around the world protested -- as well as supported - possible airstrikes in syria by the u.s. and the bay area was no exception. semonstrators claimed -- the government could start a war, but not feed the poor. but supporters said syria should be punished for hurting its own people, and action is necessary. california congresswoman nancy pelosi is in the bay area. she explains her support for military action. >> stopping these weapons of mass destruction is a pillar of our national security. they used them against their own people and excited and

>> the n-s-a is smarter than any smart phone. at least thats what a german news magazine is reporting. it says the u-s national security agency can access users data on all major smartphones. the magazine cites internal documents from the n-s-a. in them the agency describes setting up dedicated teams to crack protective measures on iphones, blackberry, and android devices. the data includes contacts, call lists, notes and location data. the documents don't indicate that the nsa is conducting mass surveillance of phone users but rather that these techniques are used to eavesdrop on specific people. >> bank of america will pay nearly 40 - million dollars to settle a gender bias claim. the lawsuit claims the bank discriminated against women in pay and in business opportunities. the settlement was announced friday. more than four thousand employees are eligible to receive funds. the settlement also requires an independent consultant to study bank of america's practices to see how they can be more inclusive. >> google finding another way to keep it's employees happy. their top rated 4-0- 1 k plan. a new survey found lawyers,

the white house says the government of syrian president bassar assad used chemical weapons in an attack last month near damascus. the administration is now saying that a "strong response" is needed to deter the future use of deadly chemicals chief of staff dennis mcdonough is making the white house's case during interviews today. vice president joe biden plans to host a dinner tonight for a group of senate republicans. the president is giving a national address on tuesday. observers say the issues confronting president obama over the coming weeks will test his powers of persuasion and his moblizing skills more than at any other time in his presidency. there is the syrian crisis. then the president must engage congress in a crucial debate over spending and the nation's borrowing limit. and the president will oversee a crucial step in putting his health care law in place. the syria vote looms as his first, biggest and perhaps most defining challenge.
