>> developing news this morning out of kenya. where 59 are dead after an al-qaida linked militant group stormed an upscale mall and began shooting. and this morning there are still hostages inside. this is day two of the siege taking place at the popular westgate mall in kenya's capital city, nairobi. so far 59 people are dead and at least 175 are wounded. and officials say right now the gunmen are still holding a number of people hostage. we're hearing possibly around 30 people are still trapped inside the mall. this is now about 30 hours after the mall first came under siege.where gunmen shot down shoppers inside. officials believe 10 to 15 gunmen are involved.now isolated somewhere within the five-story building. the al-qaida-linked military group al shabaab, who is based in somalia, is

>> a group connected to the pakistani taliban is claiming responsibility for the deadliest assault ever on pakistan's christian minority. at least 60 people were killed and nearly 120 wounded when a pair of suicide bombers attacked a historic church. the attack happened as hundreds of worshippers were coming out of the all saints church to get a free meal on the front lawn. the jundullah wing of the pakistani taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack. >> back to bay area news this morning. at no fault of their own. the oakland a's will have to try and clinch their second western division title in two years again today. yesterday, the a's trounced the minnesota twins nine to one. yoenis cespedes and alberto callaspo each homered and knocked in three runs. jarrod parker gave up one run in six innings. winning for the 12th time this season. the texas rangers won their game today. so, the magic number for the a's to clinch the division title is down to one game. oakland plays its final regular season home game today at 1:05.

san jose police have made an arrest in the case of a double fatal hit and run accident that happened on labor day morning. kron four's jeff bush has the latest. san jose police tracked down, 24 year old danny coleman of east palo alto and made the arrest on friday. coleman is being charged with two counts of murder. police say that he was driving recklessly and killed 63 year old carman zavala and her friend 62 year old christina alvaro deleon when he crashed his car into the car that the two women were in while on their way to work. it was 3:15 in the morning on labor day. police say that coleman abandoned his silver mercedes and fled the scene of the accident and the investigation took several weeks to find him. the san jose covert response unit moved in and arrested coleman in union city. the district attorney is charging coleman with the women's deathwhich count as the city's 37th and 38th

there is also all the cut for food stamps. >> guest: what is interesting is that this was a $20 billion cut in the first portion of the budget. now, they have basically doubled down. we have seen an interesting transformation with the republican party. and this would be devastating for a lot of americans including people in california. millions would lose food stamp assistance this year. 85 percent would be children. i have a feeling that the senate will not go along with it. however, there is probably going to be some cuts. to a majority of those will be children. >> president obama during his weekly address saying that the republicans are involved what do think is going to happen. >> guest: the republican

the mayor consoled grieving families after a gunman shot and injured 13 people at a park thursday night. a group of people were playing basketball around 10:15 in a south side park when the gunman walked onto the court and opened fire. thirteen were hit including two teenagers and a three year old boy. here is what mayor emanuel had to say about the recent shootings. >> we cannot allow this violence to continue it robs them of their youth and their childhood. and the families. >> these people are killing innocent people. >> police say the shooting may be gang related and it is a miracle that no one was killed. >> president obama and the first lady attended the congressional black caucus foundation gala in washington this weekend. the president delivered a fiery speech in which he again asserted his refusal to negotiate with house republicans over his health care reform bill.

take a look at your 7 day from the bay, coming up. >> despite all the wet weather this weekend. thousands of californians took to the beaches trading in their beach towels for buckets and removing upwards of a million pounds of trash and debris. it's all part of california coastal cleanup day. at san francisco's ocean beach, thousands gathered to pick up trash.and experts say it is important for people to recognize how bad trash can be for our environment. >> in this kills wildlife. hundreds of thousands of marine animals and birds that are killed are round the world because they come in contact with the debris. every piece of trash is potentially could save a life. of a sea animal. >> the california coastal commission reports that the statewide count for the clean up volunteer stands at over 51-thousand people. those volunteers picked up more than 471-thousand pounds of trash and an

additional 30-thousand pounds of recyclable materials. >> its been over a week since the mount diablo wildfire that ravaged the area was finally extinguished. kron 4's jeff pierce was there as wildlife enthusiats returned to the mountain top to see what's left of the charred area. >> reporter: when fire raged on mount diablo two weeks ago it ravaged the diablo bowman's archery club's shooting range. >> the firemen where up here and they used it as a staging area to unload their bulldozers and keep ahead of the fire. >> reporter: the fire was so intense it destroyed several out buildings and a trailer filled with expensive targets the club used for their signature annual event. >> that was a metal semi trailer and it pretty much melted everything the only thing left was the aluminum frame and the wheels. it was very very hot the aluminum rails melted into little puddles underneath.

'the organization for the prohibition of chemical weapons says it has received syria's quote "expected disclosure." but no specific details have been released about the regime's stockpile. critics say that the assad regime is stalling and failing to show transparency as promised. as part of a u-s and russian deal to eliminate syria's chemical weapons, a full list of its chemical arsenal and production facilities must be submited to the organization so they can be secured and destroyed.

friday. coleman is being charged with two counts of murder. police say that he was driving recklessly and killed 63 year old carman zavala and her friend 62 year old christina alvaro deleon when he crashed his car into the car that the two women were in while on their way to work. it was 3:15 in the morning on labor day. police say that coleman abandoned his silver mercedes and fled the scene of the accident and the investigation took several weeks to find him. the san jose covert response unit moved in and arrested coleman in union city. the district attorney is charging coleman with the women's deathwhich count as the city's 37th and 38th homicide of the year. family members say the victims were loving and hard working women. benefi >> she was a very sweet sister and i loved her so muchshe's a very good sister

every piece of trash is potentially a piece of trash that they could have used or used in their daily life. >> the california coastal commission reports that the statewide count for the clean up volunteer stands at over 51-thousand people. those volunteers picked up more than 471-thousand pounds of trash and an additional 30-thousand pounds of recyclable materials. >> its been over a week since the mount diablo wildfire that ravaged the area was finally extinguished. kron 4's jeff pierce was there as wildlife enthusiats returned to the mountain top to see what's left of the charred area. >> reporter: when fire raged on mount diablo two weeks ago it ravaged the diablo bowman's archery club's shooting range. >> the firemen where up here and they used it as a staging area to unload their bulldozers and keep ahead of the fire. >> reporter: the fire was so intense it destroyed several out buildings and a trailer filled with expensive

>> developing news this morning out of kenya. where 59 are dead after an al-qaida linked militant group stormed an upscale mall and began shooting. and this morning there are still hostages inside. kron 4's mike pelton is live in the newsroom with the the latest on this story. good morning mike. >> reporter: of we are continuing to see this devastation. 59 dead and 175 people are wounded after the attack inside the westgate mall. and the kenyan prime minister says the gunmen are still holding a number of people hostage. officials say about 30 people are still trapped inside the mall. this is now about 30 hours after the attack.where gunmen shot down shoppers inside the mall. officials believe 10 to 15 gunmen are involved.now isolated somewhere within the five-story building. the al-qaida-linked military group al shabaab, who is based in somalia, is claiming responsibility for the attack.
