the need to avoid a strike. the union is expected that the general manager will sit down and bargain with the workers. we believe that these developments will break a resolution to a long and drawn out negotiations. for this reason we will continue to bargain through the weekend. >> bart spokesman rick rice issued this statement as the cooling off period ends and labor negotiations are extended. it reads in part. >> "we are grateful the bay our unions for the next few days and that the trains will be running while we continue to negotiate. >> bart was prepared to offer a new proposal but the unions told us they were not ready for it. we will continue negotiations at 10am." >> so talks are expected to resume this morning in about five hours.

bart will not be striking for the morning commute. the announcement came just before midnight last night. management and unions signed an extension preventing a strike through the weekend as talks continue. kron four's will tran is live at the west oakland bart station with an update, >> if they do not reach a deal by sunday midnight, the workers stated that they will go on strike. in the meantime people are showing up at this is to be a little bit lighter. it is available to bart riders. some of them are tired because the state of later than they normally would just to find out if they hop on ac transit or dry ice into work. i had a chance to talk to some of them and this is what they had to say. >> what time do you normally get up? >> i go to bed at 9:00 p.m..
