department served a search warrant after 14 patients were left abandoned after three days. it was going to be longer than that if there was not a medical call. they responded to a medical call yesterday and paramedics noticed that most of the staff was gone. there is just 1:00 and two other staff members. . the department of social services also put a note on the door. manyelderly patients abandoned and left without care-- after staff at an assisted living facility walk off the job without notifying patients' family members. >> i think that they should be accounted for. there are left without proper care. there are laws to protect the patients. i think that they should be held accountable. >> reporter: the remaining

patients were taken to hospital but the department of social services saying that they thought that there is a history of concern with this facility. in a complaint filed this week they also did not perform criminal background checks for the employees. even patience not receiving their medication. this is an ongoing investigation the sheriff's department says that elder abuse charges could be filed. >> thank you, mike pelton. >> new details in the shooting and standoff that injured six officers including one federal agent in roseville. an ice agent and a roseville police officer were shot while trying to arrest a wanted parolee friday night.

this is a newly released photo of the 32-year-old suspect sammy duran. after a long standoff with police, he surrendered early saturday morning. duran is now being held at the placer county jail. police aren't releasing much about duran or how events unfolded. one resident spoke with kron-4 about the chaotic scene she saw just two doors down from her house. >> i saw that somebody was shot twice in the year ran off running. >> it became very clear that he was intent on getting away and even murdering the officer that stood and his way. some roseville residents are still waiting to return to their homes after the friday night standoff. >> officials are saying the roseville police officer and federal agent who weres shot remained hospitalized saturday. authorities say duran is being held on a parole violation, and will be charged with attempted murder. >> a " moral is being paid "justice for andy lopez"

>> today andy's memorial service will be at 2pm-9pm in windsor, the address is 9660 old redwood highway anyone is welcomed, thanks >> new this morning. a single-story duplex fire in petaluma causes 150 - thousand dollars in damage. the fire last night began in the garage of the duplex at 203 stokes court. firefighters stopped the flames from spreading to nearby homes. but one pet died in the fire. the residents of the duplex were not home at the time. officials believe the fire was accidental. >> a livermore man is in custody on child pornography charges. forty-four year old jason sherman was arrested thursday. livermore police say they seized his computer after finding over seventy images of alleged child pornography. >> new details in the investigation of the disappearance and death of a

woman at s - f general. hospital officials told lynne spaulding's family that they asked sheriff's deputies four times to search for the missing patient. although they were told that a search had been conducted, they are questioning whether that is really the case. and now the family is demanding answers. >> if sheriff mirikarimi has info that says a search or 2 or 2 wasn't done, out of respect for lynn spalding and her family he needs to step up and personally tell us why this wasn't done. this is an appalling accumulation of facts that point to one thing. something is wrong with the security apparatus at sf general. >> the sheriff's office tells kron -4, they will address individual questions once the investigation is completed,. for now it's still considered an open case. they plan to wrap it up in a week or two. >> coming up on kron 4 news weekend. a mass stabbing kills four children in new

>> a horrific scene inside a brooklyn, new york apartment. a mass stabbing leaves five people dead -- including four children -- ages one, five, seven and nine. their 37-year-old mother was also stabbed to death. authorities say all of the victims lived at the home where their bodies were found. new york police have taken one person into custody but no charges have been filed. >> a california woman who killed her former pimp has been given freedom, instead of a life sentence. governor brown made the decision friday. he didnt want to over-ride

the state parole board's decision to grant parole to sara kruzan. this is a picture of kruzan. she was seventeen when she was sentenced to life in prison for the shooting death of her former pimp in 19-94. kruzan said he had groomed her since she was 11 years old to work for him as a child prostitute. her case became a high- profile example used by state lawmakers for a new law that softens life sentences for juveniles. the decision to allow kruzan out of prison on parole will go into effect since governor brown will not be taking action. >> police in north carolina arrest the operator of a state fair ride that injured five people last week. the incident happened thursday night. witnesses say the ride was stopped. and as people were getting off. it started up again. the ride operator is facing three felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon. investigators who inspected the "vortex" ride said it had been tampered with and that - quote - "critical safety devices were compromised." three of the five people

leadership has a better handle on how their membership is feeling. i do not predict a problem. >> i am sure many people are glad to hear that. and the big announcement monday night that they had the vote cast that they had reached a settlement lt. gov. gavin newson saying that they work needs to be steps that this will never happen again. >> guest: i was not quite sure because the next day he was not talking about legislation. what was he really talking about? many people were speculating that there could be other ways of transit systems could avoid striking. if you look a no strike provisions in their contract. they could negotiate that because there are different ways of looking at the work rules and pay scales. and my own thoughts. one of the things

that the atmosphere is so toxic. is there enough time for healing? >> guest: there always is. i've seen organizations change, radical when i was on the board of supervisors for san francisco. the development between the unions and management was extremely large. and when we created the transportation authority labor relations improved. because we broke through a lot of the rust. that had built up between the two. and trying to reformat how that would work. they can do that at bart but it is going to take both sides and quite frankly leaderships. >> just to go back for we called the michael yaki proposal. having somebody representing commuters should be a great move. because the commuters are

saying what about us? >> guest: that is one of the things that when we did the charter membership that changed and took muni await simply from being a department into now, an agency, we put a requirement that would represent the commuters. we feel that it is important to bring that ground level view of people into the decision making. >> i do not want to break it down on who won or who lost. but so many people said the union came a bay with a very beneficial contract. for >> guest: to put it into context. they came -- away with a very beneficial contract. and with a wage freeze however, and a contract freeze they did fall behind the times. over the years. and from a political public relations standpoint they really took a beating. i think bart was

>> the new york stock exchange says its test run of twitter's initial public offering was a success. twitter is expected to go public sometime before thanksgiving. it has chosen to list on the new york stock exchange. the social media network will be the biggest technology i-p-o since facebook went public in may 2012. twitter plans to sell 70 million shares. it could bring in one-point-six billion dollars. shares will trade under the ticker "t-w-t-r." >> he has one more day behind bars, michael jackson's one-time personal doctor is already stepping up the battle to regain his medical license. dr. conrad murray filed a civil petition in texas friday morning. asking a judge to stop the state medical board's revocation of his license pending his criminal appeal in california. texas is the first state to revoke murray's medical license citing his felony conviction. murray is set to walk out of mens central jail in los angeles on monday. >> anger over claims that the n-s-a is spying on people around the world, including americans here at home, is spilling onto the streets of washington d-c. that's where demonstrators rallied against the nation's surveillance programs. a number of politicians joined the protests including former new mexico governor gary johnson.

and our top story this morning. >> elderly patients abandoned and left without care- after authorities say staff at an assisted living facility walked off the job without notifying patients' family members. the california department of social services revoked the license for valley springs manor in castro valley on thursday. a janitor and cook were found caring for 14 residents. the patients were moved to hospitals and nother locations. sheriff's officials launched an investigation that could result in elderly abuse charges. two other facilities in oakland and modesto under

the same ownership also had their licenses revoked. state officials say there is a long list of violations dating back to 2008. they are seeking to permanently revoke the licenses for all three facilities. the also want to to prohibit the owners from further employment or contact with any facility licensed by the services. we have a reporter at the report at 9:00. >> this mass of drive-by shooting in vallejo. there were going to vallejo. at around 11:00 p.m. last night a white s u v with tinted windows drove by and opened fire. one victim died on the scene and three others had bullet wounds. others are arrived at local hospitals. no motive has been reported.

will take a look at that in my full forecast. >> and now a story about a community coming together for their children. jeff pierce reports on a non profit group that refurbished a richmond playground that had long been neglected. >> reporter: hundreds of residents of the belden woods neighborhood in richmond came out to totally refurbish a city park plagued by neglect. >> this park was an old battered rundown and forgotten about park that kids would play in with different types of debris, bottles and you know what. >> reporter: with the help of kaboom, a non profit that helps communities build play grounds and the generous funding of an infant shoe manufacturer things began to coalesce to bring a sparkling park to the neighborhood. >> we wanted to make one of our dreams come true and that was to build a playground. >> reporter: but it began months ago when one nieghbor was challenged to become a neighborhood advocate. >> and i knock a lot of

struck the children. police say the driver, jimena barreto had consumed alcohol and prescription drugs that night. barreto is serving a 30 - year sentence for second- degree murder. since the crash.troy and alana's parents have lobbied against drunk driving through their troy and alana pack foundation. >> new this morning-- santa rosa police cite seven drivers in a d- u- i and driver's license checkpoint saturday night. police screened nearly 400 cars and arrested one suspect in connection with d - u- i. five people were cited for driving without a license or with a suspended or revoked license. and one driver was cited for having an open container of alcohol in the car. >> plans to close another contra costa county fire station in january are on hold. a county administrator says the fire district's financial outlook is improving. but as kron four's philippe djegal reports. response times are not. >> reporter: contra costa county fire protection district pittsburg station 87 closed in july.

one of seven district stations to shutdown since 20-11. and, in 20-11. district chief daryl louder says the average response time for the first crew to arrive on scene was about 8 minutes and 30 seconds. but since the closure of station 87. louder says the average response time has skyrocketted to about 10 minutes and 30 seconds. a two minute increase. in some extreme cases, louder says the first crew hasn't arrived until more then 12 minutes after a call fire marshall lewis broshard adds that it takes on average more than 23 minutes to assemble a first alarm response. more than 10 minutes above the national fire protection district's recommendation. since 20-11, the fire protection district has been reduced from 30 3- person crews to 23 3-person crews. but the fire marshall says help could be on the way. the fire protection district applied for a federal grant in august.

which if approved. could lead to new hires and the re-opening of up to three first stations. in contra costa county, philippe djegal, kron four news. >> new this morning. owners of a fremont apartment complex are accused of discriminating against families with children. the u- s justice department filed the lawsuit friday. it alleges that the owners and staff of woodland garden apartments enforced a policy that prohibited children from playing outside in common grassy areas. five families filed complaints about the complex.and those complaints led to the lawsuit. money may be awarded to those harmed by the policy. >> the mother of the teenager accused of killing his teacher says she is heartbroken over the death of the massachusets educator. the lawyer for 14-year-old phillip chism says that his mother is asking for prayers for the family of danver's high school teacher colleen ritzer. chism's mother is struggling to understand

remained. however, they still found that the 14 patients had to fend for themselves. >> i was surprised because i have not seen any anything wrong. and what i saw the cops. and i thought that this is crazy. . everything was going ok for at least eight years and then i heard that they were leaving these people. >> reporter: the representative of the department of social services is that they thought they would get care over the weekend. also there is a history of concerns of allegations they did not perform background checks on the employees and also that patients did not receive medication. this documentation has been

>> a horrific scene inside a brooklyn, new york apartment. a mass stabbing leaves five people dead including four children ages one, five, seven and nine. their 37- year-old mother was also stabbed to death. authorities say all of the victims lived at the home where their bodies were found. new york police have taken one man into custody for questioning -- but no charges have been filed. >> a california woman who killed her former pimp has been given freedom, instead of a life sentence. governor brown made the decision friday. he didnt want to over-ride the state parole board's decision to grant parole to sara kruzan. this is a picture of kruzan. she was seventeen when she was sentenced to life in prison for the shooting

>> and our top story this morning. elderly patients abandoned and left without care- after authorities say staff at an assisted living facility walked off the job without notifying patients' family members. the california department of social services revoked the license for valley springs manor in castro valley on thursday. a janitor and cook were found caring for 14 residents. the patients were moved to hospitals and nother locations. sheriff's officials launched

an investigation that could result in elderly abuse charges. two other facilities in oakland and modesto under the same ownership also had their licenses revoked. state officials say there is a long list of violations dating back to 2008. >> one person is dead and as many as seven are injured in a mass drive-by shooting in vallejo saturday night. officials say a group of young adults from south san francisco were heading to vallejo in four different cars for a party. then around 11 p- m.a white s -u -v with tinted windows drove by and opened fire on the group as they were pulled over to change a tire. one victim died at the scene and police found three others with injuries. three more victims later arrived at the hospital on their own. as of now.police do not have a motive in the shooting. >> let us check-in with your forecast.

were riding their scooter and bicycle alongside their mother when it happened. the siblings were killed when an impaired driver drove up onto the curb and struck the children. police say the driver, jimena barreto had consumed alcohol and prescription drugs that night. barreto is serving a 30 - year sentence for second- degree murder. since the crash.troy and alana's parents have lobbied against drunk driving through their troy and alana pack foundation. >> new this morning-- santa rosa police cite seven drivers in a d- u- i and driver's license checkpoint saturday night. police screened nearly 400 cars and arrested one suspect in connection with d - u- i. five people were cited for driving without a license or with a suspended or revoked license. and one driver was cited for having an open container of alcohol in the car. >> plans to close another contra costa county fire station in january are on hold. a county administrator says the fire district's financial outlook is

improving. but as kron four's philippe djegal reports. response times are not. >> reporter: contra costa county fire protection district pittsburg station 87 closed in july. one of seven district stations to shutdown since 20-11. and, in 20-11. district chief daryl louder says the average response time for the first crew to arrive on scene was about 8 minutes and 30 seconds. but since the closure of station 87. louder says the average response time has skyrocketted to about 10 minutes and 30 seconds. a two minute increase. in some extreme cases, louder says the first crew hasn't arrived until more then 12 minutes after a call fire marshall lewis broshard adds that it takes on average more than 23 minutes to assemble a first alarm response. more than 10 minutes above the national fire protection district's recommendation. since 20-11, the fire protection district has been reduced from 30 3-
