>>james: thank-you ericanew this morning. three san jose state university students are charged with misdemeanor hate crime and battery after allegedly confining their black roommate with a bike lock and subjecting him to racial and religious taunts. college freshmen colin warren, joseph bomgardner and logan beaschler each face up to a year in county jail if convicted. the three defendants allegedly called their black roommate "three-fifths" and "fraction." have placed a "u" shaped bike lock on his neck and refused to give him the key for five to 10 minutes. also contributing to the atmosphere of a hate crime the defendants kept a photo of adolf hitler and a confederate flag in the suite they shared. vallejo police are looking for the suspects involved in a string of eight armed robberies at homes and businesses in the city. police say all eight happened last night. the first incident was reported around 5-30 outside a home on olympic street while the last one

happened at 9-15 at the parking lot of the pep boys on plaza drive. victims have given similar descriptions of the robbery suspects. the suspects have been described as a group of two or three black males armed with a revolver and wearing black hooded sweatshirts. no arrest have been made at this time. the bart district board will make a critical vote today which could leave bay area commuters in chaos again. board members says the will reject the agreement, which union members have already ratified. that is because that paid family leave provision should not have been okayed by district negotiators because it?is too costly bart union representatives say they are willing to discuss the board's concerns with the provision and consider making revisions

morning. san francisco police have identified a suspect involved in a deadly shooting in san francisco's soma district. they are looking for this green. police believe he's responsible for opening fire after a fender bender dismisses and jessie streets early sunday morning. they say a woman in a red dress got out of one of the cars and started yelling at the victims. then a passenger, melquiesha warren, got out of the car to calm the woman down. that's when police say green walked up with a gun and started shooting. killing warren and critically injuring the driver. chief suhr says green is dangerous so if you see him, don't approach him. call authorities instead. they believe he lives on the peninsula and may be driving a 2001 mercedes benz. the high school coach of one of the victims says this tragedy is beyond senseless. monique walton was melquisha's high school basketball coach at tennyson high and was melquisha's

teacher, mentor, and friend. she says that melquisha was an outstanding player who mentored the younger students in her school she was an honor student at tennyson. she was a three year varsity basketball player. her work ethic was very strong. she was a mentor to a lot of the other kids. she aspired to become a lawyer one day and wanted to work with students, young people that were struggling with school and things like that and just wanted to be an advocate for them and let them know where there is a will there is a way. monique says that melquisha made the world a better place while she was here. walnut creek is moving forward with a plan to double parking meter fees downtown. and change enforcement hours.

the city currently enforces parking meters from nine in the morning until six at night. the proposal would make the new enforcement hours ten a-m to eight p-m. the proposal also looks to charge people on sundays. to park at the meters. city officials say higher parking fees should bring the city around two-million- dollars a year. if adopted, the new parking fees and rules will go into effect in next year. it's a big sign the holiday season is underway. the salvation army has started its annual red kettle campaign in san francisco. the campaign helps more than four million people in need during the christmas season. and about 30 million people every year. officials say all the money officials say all the money rto those who've worried... suffered in silence... hoped... and lived in a state of fear... welcome to a new state... of health. welcome to covered california. the place to find quality, affordable coverage.
