top stories we are following on this friday. damage and power outages all over the bay area due to high winds. this is a look at how windy it is on mt tam. we'll tell you how long the gusty winds are expected to last. fifty years ago today, president john f. kennedy was shot and killed. we'll show you how the late president is being honored today. and hate crime allegations erupt at san jose state university.

three students are facing charges as hundreds come out to protest. we have the latest. right now bart is experiencing major delays system wide because of a technical problem. 500 to 1000 passengers are still stuck on the track on 19 different trains. the problem started at midnight when the computers systems in central control were not communicating properly with the track switches. train operators and track crews are manually cranking switches into position to route the trains properly. computer technicians are working right now to restore normal operations. bart officials say the problem is not wind related. high winds around the bay area have knocked out power to thousands. thousands of pg&e customers are without power this morning. 25,000 are without power in the east bay. 8,500 in the north bay 105 are with out power along the peninsula. and 15 customers in the south bay.

high winds fuel a vegetation fire in napa county that has forced mandatory evacuations for some residents. the fire has burned 350 acres so far. the order is for residents of loma vista, shady oaks and ridge drives, as well as soda springs and chimney rock roads. the order was issued shortly before 11:30 last night. police say the napa high school gym is open for evacuees.and the red cross is there to assist powerful winds in oakland left two people dead overnight. and thousands without power. here's video of just some of the damage in oakland's rockridge neighborhood.

we are back following are breaking news story this morning. bart service is shut down. they want to be running until 5. a half-hour late to because of computer issues that developed around midnight last night. the computer system of central control not communicating properly with the track switches so they're out there right now manually moving those switches. there was for a time passengers stuck on trains brought the system and all those passengers have since been been taken off those trains. those trends are back at the station and back at the are so nobody is stuck on the tracks. we will let you know if they get the system up running at 5:00 a.m. as they're hoping to do this morning. so keep it soon to kron4 for that.

the bart district board kron4's dan kerman reports. >>: the bart district board was repeatedly slammed thursday morning for its plan to rejected the tentative agreement contract reached last month and recently approved by union members. >>: there is no taking away from the fact that this was not accidental. because it was signed and reviewed. each and every time by the parties. >>: the devastation that this will have on the route and the relationships between management and employees going forward. if you don't ratify this agreement you have seen nothing yet. >>: the board admitted it just recently discovered the contract its negotiating team signed off on.

welcome back. our breaking news story this morning. a bart news that judge bart trains are not in service. they're not expected to return until 5:00 a.m. this morning which would be a half-hour after their scheduled start time. their central control system was not communicating properly and there now manually moving the trains. for a time passengers were stuck on the trains the they have since then been removed. . we will keep you updated on the status of bart this morning. now let's check in

various media organize it should have asked the judge to search warrants and other documents in the case of 14 year-old phillip chisholm. --chism. some of those documents are expected to be made public today. chism has been held without bail since shortly after the october 27th slaying of 24 year-old colleen ritzer, whose body was found behind danvers high-school. he was indicted thursday on charges of murder, aggravated sexual assault and armed robbery. authorities say he sexually assaulted reserve--ritzer with an object before killing and robbing her.

>>james: officials said they are calling off the search for two passengers missing after a jet crash and off the coast of florida. officials found two of the plane's four passengers shortly after the crash that happened tuesday night. just before the crash the pilot sent out a distress call over ended in failure. he tried to fly back to the airport and crashed about 4 mi. from fort lauderdale. a coastguard official says the search effort for survivors was extensive. >>: after more than 45 hours searching the waters off the south florida coast, the coast guard and our partner agencies have suspended the search for the two missing persons from tuesday's plane crashed, capt. galvan and dr. senties. our thoughts and prayers are with a family and friends of the

victims in this tragedy. the decision to suspend the search comes after the coast guard and its partners in nearly two days covering almost 4000 square miles. >>james: the mexico basedthe mexico-based learjet had just dropped off a patient at the fort lauderdale airport and was returning to mexico. everyone on board were mexican nationals. the national transportation safety board continues to investigate the cause of the crash. california officials are pleased with the number of people applying for healthcare coverage online. peter lee, executive director of cover california, says the numbers are impressive. >>:we saw last week 71,000 applications completed, that means over 10,000 californians every day are completing the application process to be determined eligible for medical or cover california both with and without subsidies.

today's event will feature brief remarks by the mayor, the tolling of church bells and readings from the president's speeches. similar events will be held in boston, where the jfk library and museum will open a small exhibit of never-before-displayed items from kennedy's state funeral. and in washington, president barack obama will meet privately at the white house with leaders and volunteers from the peace corps program, which kennedy created.

joseph nee so--naso, the man convicted of killing four women in california will learn his fate today. and corte. a jury has recommended the death sentence after finding the 79 year-old former photographer guilty of murder. he could be sentenced to death even the executions have been on hold in the state since 2006. naso was convicted of killing four women all with matching and officials. he presented-as he represented himself at trial. telling the jury he did not kill those women and that he was no monster. but evidence proved otherwise with photos from his home showing a partially nude women appearing dead or knocked out and a journal describing rates of numerous women.

" teen challenge international " has been hit by burglaries for times in the last 10 days. and the gifts and donations for hundreds of kids and families over the holidays are now in jeopardy. in each of the burglaries, the charity's offices were hit. and they say around $20,000 of property and cash were taken that includes the gift cards and cash used to buy gift

central subway. will pass under market street on monday. the machine, nicknamed mom chung, will be crossing under market street near the old navy store at fourth street. the tunnel will be located about 10- feet below the bart tunnel and will form a new branch of the t-third line. that will connect the city's south of market neighborhood to chinatown. it will have stops at yerba buena, moscone, union square and market street. construction under bart tracks is expected to take six -days, and could cause some bart delays. the one- point- six billion dollars central subway is expected to open in 2019.

taking a look at wall street this morning. futures trading shows all three indexes positive at this hour. they've been talking about it for a long time and it finally happened-- the dow jones closed above 16- thousand for the first time ever. the blue chip index has been on fire lately-- and propelled higher closing at 16,009. the nasdaq climbed 47. and the s and p 500 added 15. opening bell today at 6:30.

welcome back to the kron4 morning news the breaking news story this morning it is bart trains are not in service. the controls stop started communicating with the control tracks and they have to go out and manually both those tracks back and forth. the problem as everything has slowed down. for a time we have 500 to 1000 riders stuck. they're waiting to be slowly moved to the next aerostation so they could get off. finally that happened in the last hour-and-a-half. of those trains began are clear now. the computer problem is being worked on last estimate we got is that

service would begin at 5 this morning. we're waiting to see if that actually holds true. to keep it to enter the kron4 when it comes to whether the rough weather from the bay area is actually a welcome sight in the sierra nevada. as cold temperatures and snow are already there. kron4's shares on has more from lake tahoe. you can see behind me. white stuff every which way. this note is here. while depending on where you go this is what it looks like a certain sections of south lake tahoe. snow on trees. snow on bushes and snow on the ground. as to the amount of snow that has recently fallen here in south lake tahoe this may not look like a heck of a lot but according to my measuring

in london couple arrested in connection with a sliver investigation has been released on bail. three women were freed from the couple south london home after being held captive there for 30 years. police launched the investigation after one of the women contacted a charity last month as a she was being held against her will along with two others. the head of the metropolitan police human trafficking and it describes the women as a 69 year-old malaysian, a 57 year-old irish woman and a 30 year-old britain. he says they are " highly traumatized " and have had " overall exposure to the outside world " for three decades. wto those who've worried...
