damaged property. strong wind gusts tore a historic tree near lake mair he in oakland out of ground leaving a huge crater. that tree was over 300 years old and over 100 feet tall. in walnut creek another tree cam crashing down landing on a home and smashed a truck in the driveway. no one was hurt. >> i heard a big crack and the house started banging and things started falling. i thought it was a huge earthquake. >> it was mother nature. >> some businesses were also damaged by the powerful winds. the surveillance video shows strong winds blowing a sign over and smashing it to pieces. at concord high school the scoreboard was destroyed. now the cleanup around the bay area is underway. pg&e busy trying to restore power around the bay area. there are thousands of people, 1500 people, without power. it is big game time around the bay area.

near fremont are back open after a three vehicle crash. three laifns traffic were blocked around 1:00 a.m. one person died at the scene. the cause of that crash is under investigation. san jose state officials have suspended a fourth student for alleged involvement it in a case of racial hazing. three white male students are facing can charges of hate crimes for allegedly harassing their african-american roommate. they're accused of using racial slurs against him, trapping him in a closet, locking a bicycle chain around his neck. the defendants are also accused of nicknameing their victim three fifths. the district attorney says that that's a reference to a u.s. constitutional provision that counted slaves as three fitteds of all other people. >> on one occasion the three men wrestled him to the ground and put a bike lock around his

fire near the geysers has burned 2500 acres. the blaze is now 10% contained. and evacuations were ordered t burn ad geothermal plant and threatening two other plants as well. but the silverado plant is nearly contained. evacuations were ordered between 40 and 50 homes were threatened but the fire has burned so far one out building. crews are working to restore power to more than 1500 bay area residents -- residents. 900 people are without power. 950 in the east bay. and 5 in the south bay and peninsula. high winds causing that outages and power lines. the aftermath from the winds in the area was ugly.

panic at los angeles international airport overnight. a car crashed near a terminal while a caller report ad gunman at another terminal. and they sent people scrambling. people fled from the terminal. they were spooked by the sound of a suv. police say that a passenger mistook the sounds of the crash for gunfire. >> after a short period of time the officers were able to determine that there was not a shooting that occurred in the

terminal but rather the sounds from the traffic collision caused people to think that there may have been shots fired. >> the driver had a medical emergency and she lost control of the car. and officers rushed to the area they evacuated the area and stormed in with the guns drawn. lax has been on edge since a tsa agent was killed there there three weeks ago. an autopsy report reveals that the officer killed was shot 12 times. bullets grazed his heart and pierced his bladder after the november 1 shooting. the man who targeted him had a vendetta against the federal government. the 23-year-old suspect has been charged with murder and he could be facing the death penalty. on thursday a pilot landed 235-foot cargo plane at the airport after he mixed up east

calm and clear and chilly temperatures dropping down at 8:00 to 49 degrees. low 50s for the bay shores and getting down to 53 here in san francisco. we do have rain to talk about. we'll take a look at that coming up but we're going back to marty. >> firefighters have put out a blaze that started in burlingame this morning. nearly 70 firefighters fighting. battling the blaze. get it under control in an hour and a half. and two buildings and were badly damaged, they don't know the cause at this point but they say the building's age and wood shingles contributed to the spread of the fire. it happened on the donnelly avenue, a half a block from the burlingame train station. no one was injured. in response to reports of turkey shortages at bay area food banks a company has arranged for the delivery of 100 turkies in san francisco. and a private firm has arranged

for a safeway truck to dob them off at bay area food banks and non-profits are reporting fewer donations this year. and a stronger demand for food from climates. second harvest reporting that it is well short of the goal of collecting 12,000 turkies. and the fbi believes that the serial robbery suspect is responsible for a bank robbery. the suspect is dubbed the cotton ball bandit and wanted for seven robberies. you are taking a look at photos of the suspect. the robbery happened at 9 a.m. at a chase bank on thursday. the suspect handed over a note demanding money and then fled on foot. he is described being between 40 and 50. with a medium build. the suspect gets the name because he wear as beanie with ear flaps that you can see and the cotton ball on top. police arrest ad man who
