>> reporter:it happened last night near 96th avenue and olive street. this is video from earlier today, from our helicopter partnership with abc7 news. >> reporter:police say a group of men --in their late twenties to early thirties-- was standing outside here when two people walked up and shot them. >> reporter:six victims are in stable condition. one is in critical but stable condition. >>"we do know they were celebrating a birthday. they were at a barbecue. this was out near the street. we had a lot of people in the area." >> reporter:this was the response from police and emergency responders last night. investigators don't yet know the motive, or if this was a gang-related or retaliation shooting. a rash of car burglaries. >> pam: and a warning tonight from police in mountain view. at least 30 vehicles broken into. in the past 14 days. it is happening across town, but police say, hot spots include the costco- petco shopping complex on rengstorf avenue. and the

parking lots at the century sixteen theater complex on shoreline boulevard. in almost every case, the thieves are targeting vehicles where gift -wrapped packages, electronics and other valuables were left inside the vehicle in plain view. >> a lot of people are visiting and shopping. parking lots are filled like this where it gives people the opportunity to steal items from vehicles. we all know that people are caring and little more cash on them as they are looking for deals and awaiting black friday. >> pam: police say, they are working some leads but would not say, if the burglaries are the work of a particular crew, nor have they found a pattern to the crimes, other than opportunities presented by the holiday shopping season. >> pam: they are advising shoppers to keep packages and other valuables out of sight. or locked in the trunk.

>> pam: we now know who was inside the car that fell into a waterway in richmond. the contra costa county coroner's office says, the victim was 43-year-old kyle miller. >> pam: his mercedes plunged into the santa fe channel near wharf street last wednesday or thursday. the car was pulled out thursday morning. >> pam: miller's body was found inside. police think his death was an accident. firefighters say, miller lived on a boat in the and the bay area harbor >> pam: it's been almost a week since strong winds knocked over trees and power lines all across the bay area. the gusts also blew over one particularly large eucalyptus near lake merritt in oakland. >> pam: and the downed tree has now become something of a tourist attraction. kron 4's charles clifford was in the east bay today. yay!
