oakland will not be working today. that is due to a major work stoppage in protest of unsafe conditions and unfair labor practices by terminal owners. the strike will begin at 5 this morning coinciding with the start of the longshoremen's morning shift and when the terminal case (as independent contractors, port truckers cannot join or form a traditional union to bargain, but as conditions continue to deteriorate on the porch, they have organized themselves into a group they're calling the port of oakland truckers' association. >>anny: crowds at bay area airports are expected to sunday. complicated travels as a storm in the north east some weather-related delays and flight cancellations will make it to the bay area airports. the start of the holiday season kicked off with more in a 130,000 passengers arriving and departing from san francisco international airport friday. that day is

current numbers. the san francisco and marin food banks are still short. they still need 800 turkeys while the alameda county food bank is in need of 4000 turkeys and hams and chickens. volunteers at monument crisis center in concord are hoping there will be enough turkeys to feed the needy this thanksgiving. any more donations of they don't have to turn anyone away. between monday and tuesday, more than 500 family stood in line to get a turkey and it's not just turkeys that are running low. >>: we need the essentials. food and shelter. we have been encina ourselves quite quickly. and organizers say there are less than 100 turkey's left and they are certain they will be gone in all time. >>james: coming up on the kron4 morning news, expected delays at airports in the

415 is the time. it's been almost a week since strong winds knocked over trees and downed power lines all across the bay area. the dust blew over this particularly large eucalyptus tree near lake merritt in oakland. but since then, the tree has become a tourist attraction. a steady stream of people have been stopping by to steer, take pictures, play or even eat their lunch on the downed tree. >>: it was like a circus here. everyone was out walking and having fun. >>: it's cool. i crawled all over the branches and walked over it. >>james: of oakland city officials said tuesday, they currently have no plans to remove the tree because the city is still dealing with the hundreds of calls for service. received after last week's storms. they say, for

to the fire department, this fire broke out at around 3:00 this morning. we can tell you is it's a two alarm fire. one firefighter was slightly injured. he was transported to an old local hospital. we are also being told by the public information officer that one person was rescued from this fire spread as far as the cause of the fire, it's unclear right now but i can tell you the public information officer just confirmed. one person is in custody. i had a chance to talk to one person who lives inside the apartment complex as she claims there was a mentally unstable person living inside of that apartment complex and he may have been the source of this fire. that's what they're suspecting. as i said the public information officer did confirm one person in custody on this fire. firefighters continued to battle this flame.

woman known as "cat lady". police say that on monday afternoon, the suspect came up to the woman at pier 14 and grabbed all of her belongings, including a cat carrier that held both cats-- and tossed them in the water. firefighters were able to get the woman's belongings from the bay, but the two cats had drowned. people who know the woman say they are horrified and stunned at what happened. animal control now wants to review nearby security cameras that may have captured the crime. the suspect is described only as a male wearing a hooded sweatshirt and carrying a skateboard. when he is caught, he is facing animal cruelty charges. the messy weather is putting a damper on some people's travel plans.

supervisor, dan white. the i-r-s and u-s treasury department are proposing new rules that would curb the involvement of tax- exempt organizations in political campaigns. the rules would restrict the ability of social welfare groups to engage in activities, like campaign advertising for or against a specific candidate and voter registration drives. this comes in the wake of controversy over the i-r-s' scrutiny of liberal and conservative groups. earlier this year, the i-r- s admitted it held up groups seeking tax-exempt status if they had the words "tea party" or "patriot" in their name. but the agency said it was
